Can someone explain why the buyout for this is 15G? I have sold 2 copies of this, one for 15G and one for 25G, which seems ridiculous. Am I missing something?

Update: As of Cataclysm, the Horde quest that awarded this BoE version of the recipe was removed. The vendors who sold the BoP version of Ricetta: Stufato di Ratto di Fossa were also removed, but it now drops from mobs at the Bael'dun dig site.

You can only get this BoE version of the recipe by completing the Horde-only Dig Rat Stew quest. Especially if you put it on the neutral AH, Alliance Cooks who are trying to learn all the recipes will pay top dollar for it. Alliance can now buy a BoP version of Ricetta: Stufato di Ratto di Fossa, but many still don't know this or don't want to go all the way to the southern Barrens to purchase it.(##RESPBREAK##)2056##DELIM##adashiel##DELIM##

At the moment, this is the only Horde-only cooking recipe from a quest. The rest are vendor bought.

I've just leveled an Orc Death Knight to get this recipe as alliance.

Leveling a Death Knight to 58 is really easy, especially if you've done the quests previously.

Time spent to get to 58: 1 hour and 37 minutes.

Time spent to get the recipe: 1 hour and 53 minutes.

Good luck to everyone wanting to complete Chef de Cuisine, like I do. ;)

Note: You either have to be playing on a PVE server to do this, or you need to have a friend doing it for you.

I just doublechecked with a friend of mine. This was the only cooking reciepe, he had more than me, but in the achievement (160 recipes) we have the same amount.

So it seems, this recipe doesn't seem to count for it.

Keep in mind that to be able to get the quest that awards this recipe, you need to have a cooking skill of at least 15. So if you're making a horde DK to get the recipe for your alliance character, be sure to visit the cooking trainer before riding to the Barrens.

Put this on neutral AH on warsong server sold for 340g BO in first few minutes just to give a comparable price

Confirmed. In Patch 3.1, Horde characters will be able to buy it after completing the quest, and Alliance can buy it from another vendor.

* Grub now sells the Dig Rat Stew recipe to players who completed the quest.
* Prospector Khazgorm, found in Bael Modan in southern Barrens, now sells the recipe for Dig Rat Stew to the Alliance.

Amazing how Blizzard hates the horde. They are going to allow the alliance to buy one of our cooking recipes and we get none of theirs. Why not give us Tasty Lion chops or whatever it is?

I was lucky and my horde toon had not doen this quest yet.
Took me about 30 minutes to get the quest, complete, and turn in (due to long run)

Met a friend at the AH in tanaris. He gave it to my alliance main. I put it on the Alliance AH for 350g. It sold in 20 mintues.

Maybe worth leveling a horde DK just for this recipe. Chances are most people arent aware that it will be available in 3.1. If it sold that fast for 350, i'm sure I could've gone higher.

Patch 3.1.0 (4/14/09): Alliance Prospector Khazgorm, found in Bael Modan in southern Barrens, now sells the recipe for Dig Rat Stew to the Alliance. Recipe is BoP.

It sucks that this is BoP. I just bought a bunch intending to send them to all my alts and trickle the remainder onto the Alliance AH only to discover when I got back to the city that they were all soulbound.

The long ride to fetch it would have made it a good money-maker for lower-levels, to sell to those too busy with level 80 affairs to come get one.

Recipe is now ALLIANCE-ONLY, ironically enough, since Grub now refuses to sell the recipe to even those who completed the quest long ago and stupidly vendored/auctioned it, nor is the quest available.

EDIT: Actually it's gone entirely--the Alliance vendor is gone too.

Not sure why this item is listed twice on wowhead, but this recipe still exists for the horde ~~as well~~! Location: Northern Barrens, roughly 55.4, 61.3 and sold by an npc by the name of Grub. I've also posted it on http://www.wowhead.com/item=44977#comments:id=1285211. Hope this helps :D

Edit: Striked out as well, lol. just noticed Alfador says it's gone entirely

It took me about 35 kills of Excavator Raiders.

It is available for both sides.

Just wanted to mention that i got this recipe on my druid (durotan realm, alliance, August 9th 2011), the item is still available in game and got my 200 recipe achievement. It dropped from Excavation Raider (NPC); thanks.

Confirmed Aug 28th, 2011 about 15 kills and I looted a BOP version of Dig Rat Stew. I use ARL and this was the last one I needed for my Iron Chef achieve. Also I am alliance and the mobs are only level 35. Happy hunting :)

9/6/11 - The recipe just dropped for me from one of the Excavation Raiders. I didn't spend more than 5 minutes looking for it. Now I'm just one recipe away from my Iron Chef achievement; the one that drops from Pusilin.

As of right now, unless you got dirge's recipe, or manage to buy it, with the removal of the sporeling snack, you need both guild recipes to get the Iron Chef achiev.

I was farming the dwarfs for the recipe, and figured i would gather the mats for it while i went, and one the rats i shot dropped a plump dig rat, and it said cook over fire to learn dig rat stew recipe, after about 10 clears of the castle in the south barrens.

This item is stated as not available anymore because it used to be a quest reward. The quest giving the recipe is gone but they reintroduced it back into the game. I don't know which NPC it drops from, because two hours of killing Bael'dun guys didn't get me anything. After about 50 Dig Rat kills, a Plump Dig Rat dropped for me. All you need to do is to cook the Plump Dig at and you will learn the recipe for Dig Rat Stew. You need to have cooking to be able to see it I'm assuming, and it is soulbound. I've attached a screenshot, you can take a look.

I started farming this recipe yesterday in an attempt to get the Iron Chef achievement. I gave up after having killed 21 rats and countless Excavation Raiders. This morning, on my first rat kill I got the Plump Dig Rat, stoked up a fire and got myself the ach.

For anyone else chasing this ach, use Ackis Recipe List to find your missing recipes and go kill some rats in the Bael'Modan digsite.

ok, so i spent an hour, at least, killing the excavation raiders trying to get this recipe to drop! at some point i decided to kill some rats to vent my frustration and get the material to make the recipe as well, and after a few kills Ratto di Fossa GrassottelloPlump Dig Rat dropped off of one of them, which in turn gives you the recipe. so, maybe kill the rats instead of the taurens......seemed a lot better drop rate lol. this also gave my 200th recipe for iron chef :D

This is NOT dropped by the mobs, I killed over 300 and got 10 elixir of giant growth recipes and two deviant delight recipes, NO Dig Rat Recipes. What it DOES drop off of is the Dig Rats in that area. Set a macro to target Dig Rat and there are about 6 spots they spawn around the dig site. I killed maybe 25 rats, got a temp rat pet on one, 23 meats, and finally the Plump Dig Rat; which you cook and you learn the recipe. I am posting a screen shot. Do not waste your time on the mobs some say drop this, it comes from a rat in that same area as of Jan 2012. Good Luck.

Finally got this item! It dropped of the dig rats, not the Bael'dun mobs. Farmed for about 45 minutes. The item that drops is a green item titled Plump Dig Rat. Recommend you pull up a cooking fire there and learn it on the spot. It is a BoP item. Good luck!

I got it from a Dig Rat who dropped a Plump Dig Rat at Bael Modan Excavation.

After 94 Dig Rats and 2 Unconscious Dig Rats.... I finally got a Plump Dig Rat. It took over 30 mins. Cooked it over my fire and the recipe appeared in my Cooking.

I used this macro to make it easier seeing them.

Just a friendly tip:

When looking for those rats at the dig site go to interface options -> Names -> Select critters & companions.

This will make those little rats have their name over them, thus easier to spot

This recipe is still available as of 9/8/2012. I was flying over to Desolace to get to the Vendor tron, and stopped at the Bael Modan site to get the dig rat stew recipe. I killed the Tauren raiders for some time, and an occasional rat and got nothing. I looked at wowhead for some help and was told that you could get the recipe by killing rats. So I started killing raiders and rats... I was there for some time, about an hour or so, as there aren't many rat spawns, but kept killing to see what happened. Finally, I killed a rat whose loot was a different color (more pink) than the other rat loot I'd received, and got the message, 'Your rat doesn't appear to be dead; it is still struggling. Why don't you let it go.' So I clicked it out of my bags. The rat stood around at my feet, not running, or anything..... Was this a new pet? I killed it and got the loot message 'this rat is BOP. cook it to receive the recipe: Dig Rat Stew.' Or something like that. So I cooked it and voila, my dig rat stew recipe automatically deposited into my recipe file.

This particular rat was near the tents, or under them. The drop rate on the recipe has plunged. As others have said, I've gotten this recipe in just a few kills previously, but not this time. Just keep at it and kill everything. In addition to the dig rat recipe, I got two savory deviate delight recipes, some low level gear, and an alchemy recipe for elixir of the giants, plus some silver off the Taurens.

About the Vendor Tron...... I continued over to Desolace for the Carrion Surprise recipe and was there for over 2 hours. The goblins never appeared at their southern nor northern locations, yelled for caravan escorts, or anything else. I'm hoping Blizz will fix this. But as of 9/8/2012, Vendor Tron isn't showing up. I'd like to hear if anyone sees the vendor tron. Thanks.

This recipe (item number 5487) is not in the game anymore, despite what several recent comments have said. You can still learn the cooking spell, Stufato di Ratto di Fossa, though. What you need to do is kill and loot Ratto di Fossas, until you loot a Ratto di Fossa Grassottello from one of them. Then cook the plump dig rat at a fire (by right-clicking on it), and you will get a couple of Stufato di Ratto di Fossas, plus you learn the cooking spell, Stufato di Ratto di Fossa. By that point, you will probably have accumulated plenty regular Ratto di Fossas in your bags to cook because the drop rate for the plump ones is fairly low (2%, according to Wowhead). You won't ever see an actual recipe item in your bags, though.

While you are killing and looting Ratto di Fossas, you may also get an Ratto di Fossa Svenuto. That will just allow you to create another Ratto di Fossa wherever and whenever you want to. You can kill and loot that one for another chance at a Ratto di Fossa Grassottello.

From what I've figured out, the history of the recipes appears to be as follows: (this bit added recently)

Patch 1.11: The non-binding recipe on this page was available as a quest reward for Horde only. Some people sold, rather than learned, their copy.
Patch 3.1: The quest and this recipe remained in the game, and a second version that was BoP, Ricetta: Stufato di Ratto di Fossa, was added. The BoP version could be purchased by any Alliance character and by those Horde characters that had completed the quest, but didn't learn the recipe.
Patch 4.0.3: Both versions of the recipe became unavailable. (More things gone thanks to Cata!)
Patch 4.2: The BoP version was added back in. Now it could be looted from Incursore degli Scavi (Alliance) or Bael'dun dwarfs (Horde), but not purchased. Phasing caused some problems getting it, though.
Patch 4.3: The recipes stop dropping, but Ratto di Fossa Grassottellos become the new way to learn Stufato di Ratto di Fossa.

After 4.3, some people in the comments for both recipe items were apparently confusing the cooking spell Stufato di Ratto di Fossa with the recipe items that used to teach the spell and were saying that the recipe items were still available. The cooking spell can still be learned, but the recipe items have been replaced by Ratto di Fossa Grassottellos as the means to learn it.

A scroll is no longer available for this recipe. Instead, you must kill Dig Rats until you find a "Plump Dig Rat," wich binds on pick-up. It will not stack with the others and invites you to cook it. Build a fire and click the plump dig rat and you learn the recipe. Blizzard is sometimes very Nasty in the way it changes things up, yes?

I think that this recipe just like the old thistle tea boe recipe cannot be used anymore, and have been made vanity items only. This may be why this item says "deprecated" but just want to make sure people know you cant actually use this item to learn it anymore. It has no "use" so its just a bag slot now.
