I recommend attaining the Ghost Saber for your hunter at level 20. It took me 23 Cat Figurines later to finally tame it but here are the coords for several spawns for those who have it:

58,17 (this is where mine spawned on the 23rd one)

Lay your traps Before opening the figurine!

Got bored while looking for this so I reread the posts and noted that the Ghost Saber (or whatever it was called) will appear when you click the figurine - if you or your pet are aggressive there is a chance you could kill it before taming (say if you are an lvl 80). I checked here after my 8th try, said duh, laid my trap and Whamo - got her on the next figurine! Happy Hunting! (btw, she still died on me, just rez'm).

Note it's icon was previously used in Warcraft 3, as Tyrande's icon.
Funny how loads of W3 icons are used for trash items.

I found this randomly at Darkshore, Ruins of Mathystra while looking for Mathystra Relics.
It had the shape of a little cat and was lootable. Got this item

I know someone besides me will be curious about this. I just went to Darkshore to see if these still exist after the shattering... turns out that they do. They are located around the same general area, the Ruins of Mathystra.

Ashtail is not an elite, he is a rare but not an elite, just silver dragon like Bayne, Shadowclaw, Humar etc etc. Got him as well with my lvl 17 hunter and just picked this guy up at lvl 23

Info: Level 18 Worgen Hunter.

Today, 3.28.2011, I was leveling in the ruins when I stumbled upon the Statuetta di GattoCat Figurine. Not knowing what it did, clicked on it and to my surprise a ghost saber appeared and started attacking me...Whereupon I quickly killed it. Curious, I checked Wowhead and much to my chagrin, realized what I had just done. Making a circle around the outer rim of the "pit" of laborers, I went through 24 cat figurines before this happened again... I had my pet dismissed and got the message "You are not able to tame this beast yet"

GAHH!

Quickly turned in the quests that I had completed while grinding for this pet, and (now level 19) was able to go through 4 more figurines to find the kitty.

Moral of the story: You must be level 19 before trying to tame it.

P.S. I did not even go below 70% health by the time the cat was tamed. Don't know why people were having such a hard time at level 20-24? Unless this was changed in the new patch.

I can't help feeling a bit stupid for placing a vendetta on this kitty with my level 15 rogue. The blighter popped out and killed me, so I came back and killed him. THEN, I checked Wowhead mainly to see if the statue held any value even though the pet was useless to me.

The statue is worthless. :(

A hunter can Tame as long as you are equal or higher than the ghost Saber.
Locations that I have found figurines. Note: Saber appears randomly so these locations are of the figurines.

These have been the same for two other alts of mine.
Welcome to add to the list of locations for they seem to be at the same locations all the time. Just random as to which one they appear at and how often.

i got that ghost cat in about half hour running these coords over and over. wish it were a spirit beast tho but a ghost cat will still look awesome.

3 times for me before it spawned with a lvl 60 Hunter. Tamed it and added it to my menagerie :)

Patch 5.2: found a figurine, but was vendor trash (grey text). Can be picked up, but can't be interacted with...

Are there still "normal" ones around (who spawn the Ghost Saber)?

Edit: Silly me! The Sabers (eventually) spawn when you pick up the figurine... Got my saber at the third figurine :)

Hi, confirmed that ghost saber still obtainable as of 21 Jan 2018 7.3.5, 10th figurine, got it years ago and somehow lost it, so nice to have again :)

Yes this still spawns a great hunter pet as of 08.21.19 and will do the same in Classic.
I tamed one well over a decade ago and it's still great to get whispers from other hunters asking where it came from.
Screenshot is my new one.
