So far it appears that the only possible contents of these clams are 1-2 Blood Shrimp.

I imagine there could be a rare item retrievable from them, but until someone finds something and posts we cannot know.

Blackfathom Pearl and Flawless Pearl are the real reason to get these (lol).... lots of money for these gray items. Much like the Goldenscale Vendorfish in TBC.

I've collected hundreds of these and have yet to find any grey item lol, only blood shrimp.

The Zin'Jatar nagas are very good for farming these. There is tons of naga, and they drop the Abyssal Clam quite frequently. Funny thing was, that sometimes I got five of these in a row, but then none for maybe ten or more mobs. But the amount makes for it; you can easily pick 4 monsters at a time.

This may be a n00by question, but this is a part of the Oceanographer achievement, which revolves around fishing, hence I suppose it has to be fished (as in caught) and not picked up?

If I'm right, where can I fish it?

If it's fine just to loot it/pick it up is does the same apply for all the other fish/organisms needed for the Limnologist and Oceanographer Achievements?

after having a hard time collecting these clams to lvl up my cooking. I decided to try and find a place i saw just after cata came out. I remembered seeing tons of naga floating around the edge of a cliff. I found them. Sure Sh*t they drop Abyssal clams. They are at the most southern part of The shimmering expanse. If you fly to coordinates 27,85.
and go straight down you will see them. They hit pretty hard so if ur not geared be careful not to pull to many. As a lvl 85 dk i didnt have to many issues. I did have a couple close calls though so be careful. Their are small groups of 3-4 naga that are close enough together to basicly go from 1 group to the next, rinse, repeat. i had about 50 clams in 45 minutes.They are actually Guardiaserpe Naz'jar

Can't farm these for my life. Tried several different mobs here with very very poor drop %s. One of the mobs listed here didn't drop anything! Maybe I'm phased, dunno. Either way, I give up.

I reckon that level 80 Cataclysm dungeon: Throne of the Tides, which is located in the whirlpool near the center of Vashj'ir is the best place to farm Abyssal Clams. Nearly all of the mobs drop them fairly commonly!

Can confirm that, despite the mob drops listed here, the "Neferset ..." mobs in Uldum do NOT drop this. Have well over 100 kills and not a drop. Statistically possible but way outside what you'd expect for a 13% to 9% drop rate.

I would expect that the data here is from the very very early days of Cata when this slipped through and got patched out. The name says it all - common sense says got to Vashj'ir!

I see the last comment here was some years ago. I think the drop raid for the raiders is wrong now - I've killed dozens of them and not a single abyssal clam, just fish oil.

Drops just fine from Nagas in Vash'jir.

As other guides suggested, I went to Shimmering Expanse, specifically to the Ruins of Vash'jir, and got the drop in my second kill. I farmed a bit longer just to check the rate and kept getting the Clam in about every third kill.

I just opened 405 of these and got 603 shrimp, 3 Blackfathom pearls and 0 flawless pearls. Just FYI info. Thanks

(Don't ask how I got so many...)
