They seem to have been forgotten and are still white quality, even though the shattering left them without a purpose. Safe to vendor in other words.

back in the day of Lk the BloodShard was still part of the quest line now it just junk and can be sold idk if they my readd it or makeing so you can work with it

Speculated by many lore addicts to be solidified blood of an Old God much like Saronite Ore is the blood of Yogg-Saron. There is not enough evidence to claim for certain that there is an Old God in southern barrens, but one is believed to be under the Bael Modan Compound. If you talk to Bael'dun Excavator near the collapsed cavern in the excavation site, he says that right before the cataclysm hit, they discovered something that they shouldn't have within the cavern.

Contrary to what this page says, one of these dropped for me while doing quests in Southern Barrens on my Monk. I killed 2 quilboars before killing a rare spawn (also a quilboar), so I'm not sure which one of them dropped it.

It doesn't really matter though as they're of no use to anybody.

I've got 7 of those in my bags now, from the Bristleback dudes in the Southern Barrens.
Well, they are 1s75c each, I'll vendor them... woot woot! (gonna be rich!)

Wowhead should update the "This item is no longer available within the game." to something like, "This is item has no use after Cataclysm and is safe to vendor." to save having to read multiple comments trying to figure out what it is. :)

So it's the 27th of August 2015 and I just looted 6 of these in the Southern Barrens, questing. So no, WoWhead isn't correct this time.

Also, according to the other comments, it's only worth silver now and should be either junk or removed since they're useless.

Hold on to these if you find them. During the diablo anniversary, Khadala will appear somewhere in the Eastern Kingdoms, or Kalimdor. She will sell items by slot which can be any item that has been removed from the game "per slot" You can get anything from grey items to purple items from her. She only takes Blood shard as currency. Hold onto these!
