My ladyfriend plays a rogue and got this last night and we did a little testing.

Based on 1000 melee swings and 225 Sinister strikes, over a rough 10min duration.

Fatal Wound can cause a critical strike.

Non-critical hits range from 1353 - (1367avg) - 1380 (count 12 times, 66%)
Critical hits range from 3344 - (3395avg) - 3412 (count 6 times, 33%)

From 1000 Melee + 225 Sinister strikes a total of 18 Fatal Wounds.

1.5% chance from what I saw.

this is the procced spell. it is categorized as physical damage and it is reduced by armor.

I picked up one of these and did some testing on a training dummy.

I put it in my main hand with nothing in my off hand and whacked away for a good 15 minutes, landing 1007 melee strikes.

The weapon procced 41 times. That's about a 4% proc rate. Also, a few of those procs were back to back or nearly back to back, meaning there's no internal cooldown timer.

EDIT: Hits were for between 1506-1845 damage (1625 avg.) and crits were between 3103-3800 (3325 avg.).

Seeing all these old weapons simply reintroduced (with upped stats, of course, but still in all their old glory of the chance-on-hits with no internal cooldowns) makes me so unexplainably happy I just want to cry. Chance on hits, and trinkets such as the ones introduced back in with Onyxia in this patch were the true essence of Pre-Bc. I really hope this is hinting at the return of such effects with the expansion, and the gradual progression away from weapons and armor with plain stats and "ratings" just slapped on them.

I just won this a few minutes ago , and I have a question for rogues . (specifically combat specced)
What would be a good offhand sword for this? The only fast (or at least not incredibly slow ) oh sword I have is Widows Fury. Also, should I do full sword spec if this is a good option or just swap some points away from the close quarters that I have now to have em split between swords and cq?
thanks for insightful input.

I like this sword, but I'm iffy about equipping it because I'd lose some agi, stam, hit , and ap... is the 2k chance on hit worth it?

I can't believe that something on a 1-4% proc for 2k can really be worth it. That high top-end on the other hand is pretty sweet. My prot warrior just picked it up (before the flamers, nobody else wanted it) and I like it for tanking, its a huge damage upgrade over your typically tanking weapons.

I've tested out 600 swings and will continue to 1000. However, I can solidly say that the procrate is consistently 5%. The way I see it this thing should be seen as having another 5/5 in sword spec to rogues as it's another hit and its rate is 5%.

I'm a DK tank, but I just won this on an offspec roll (frost dps offspec) and was wondering what you guys thought of this weapon vs. Aledar's Battlestar from heroic Trial of the Champion? (basically, stats and gem slot vs. the proc). I'm a DPS noob so I don't know where to being on comparing the two weapons.

I'm a Frost DW DPS Deathknight and i've been using this weapon for a decent amount of time, mostly because i got it before i saw another battlestar drop, but i CAN say that the top end damage is extremely nice and the proc is too few and far between to enter fully into the discussion. using this in my main hand and my battlestar in my off (fallen crusader on main, razorice on off) i suggest this weapon for the top end damage which helps immensely for obliterates and frost strikes.

unrelated note: why is it called a battlestar? its a hammer.

Been using this weapon for DW on my DK. It's a great weapon for Ob but the proc rate is terrible. Makes up about .5%... yes... .5% of my damage. So I wouldn't get it for the proc effect lol.

In VoA25, Ony25, procced about 15-20 times total for each fight.

I, like the other few posters above me have this as a DW Frost DK. I would only use it if you don't have another 232+ weapon mainhand. I would recommend replacing it with a weapon from the new 5 mans.
