This cute little blue Hatchling occasionally stops and paces about for a moment. After a short time, he leaps towards you with a tiny roar.

If you are not outside the minimum range, he will not leap.

I got 2 of these today.

First was at 5:27 GMT, spawn point : Large tree.

Second was 4 hours later at 9:27 GMT, spawn point was west of the tree, near sludgefen

Him having a set 7hr respawn all the time is false..it ranges from at least 4-7hrs based on reports.

Yikes, can't believe the WoWhead price for this is 500G! On my server they were 4k, dropped to 2.6k now and I just snagged one in trade for 1kG. :( I know the price will drop eventually, but I want one now, darnit!

PTR Notes (Build 10623):

Hatchlings: Leaping, Darting, Razormaw, and Ravasaur Hatchlings no longer drop from their associated rare creatures. Instead, there are now rare nests that spawn which contain these hatchlings. For example, the Leaping Hatchling can now be found in Takk’s Nest rather than as a drop from Takk the Leaper.

Personal Notes:

Both the nests and rare spawn raptors can be up at the same time.
Rare spawn raptors no longer drop the mini pets; they can only be obtained from the nests.
100% loot chance for the mini pets from nests.
Nests can only spawn near the location of the rare spawn raptors but not always in the same spot (almost certain). Example: Dart's nest can only be found around the location where Dart spawns even if it's not in the same spot where it last spawned.
Nest spawn timer is about the same as rare spawn raptors on LIVE realms.

Just got my first hatchling from Takk's Nest after a server restart. Can't say for sure whether it was BECAUSE of the restart that the nest showed up or not as I have collected 3 over the past 3 nights when the lil guy still dropped from Takk =/

May just be that my server doesn't have much activity at 4:30 am =)

Does the nest always spawn by a tree, or could it be out in the open?

Update: Well scratch that question I found it by a tree. Also, it seems everyone is finding them by tress so I guess they don't spawn in the open.

So if you're looking for one just keep searching the trees in the area where Takk the Leaper spawns.

I've been looking for the nest for a few days now. I've found Takk several times after a few hours of killing striders, raptors and lions. I've been running around all the trees in the area, scanning them with my cursor. My logic is that the Stolen Silver quest has all the raptors nests by trees so I thought that would be a good place to try. I still haven't been able to pick it up, even after 2-3 hours of solid scanning. From the posts it appears to be a random location. Is it also a random time or is it linked to Takk's appearance?

the spawn timers of the nests seem to be roughly as frequent as Takk himself spawns & i too was going to give the same 2 co-ordinates as Tom there but say they were up. good hunting guys

I thought this was going to take forever to get since it was so close to Orgrimmar, and I figured everyone that was interested in this pet - or making a buck - would be consciously farming them out the back door of Org. Surprisingly, it only took me 4 random checking trips to procure this cutie. Now if only the Time Lost Proto Drake was this easy to find...

Takk and the nest are on different respawn timers, you can find the nest without killing Takk.

so I am curious as to how long of a wait before the nest spawned for any of you and I can't figure out how to look up co-ordinates on my wow map unless there is an add on just wondering if someone would be so kind to help me out.

My personal experience is that the spawn time is between 4~6 hours after the rare nest has been looted.
The spawn of the rare nest is different from Takk.
There are a total of 4 spawn points of the rare nest.

I can't believe I just found out about the nests...I was never before inclined to get these hatchlings because farming rare spawns is never fun. However, since these nests were introduced, I've found four Leaping Hatchlings, one for my main, alt, and two to sell! Plus various other hatchlings. Funnily enough, in my searches I've run across more than a few of the rare spawn raptors, and I sort of wish they still dropped the pets now!

Does anyone know if the lvl of the character that kills Takk have any influence on the rate of the nest spawning?
I have killed Takk twice a day for the past two days, and havnt had a nest spawn anywhere in the mob run area. Using NPCScan with overlays to show the mob run area.

I have confirmed 5 different trees where the nest spawns.

58.5, 8.3 (this tree and next are directly in line with each other and the nests spawn on the sides between the 2 treesa)
59.3, 8.4 (then curve around ridge and follow hill line for next trees)
60.2, 10.1 (this nest spawns on the backside - or hillside- of the tree)
60.7, 13.4 (this nest spawns on the south side of the tree)
59.5 17.2 (across from big broken tree)

If you have the tom tom addon, just write a macro:
/way 58.5 8.3
/way 59.3 8.4
/way 60.2 10.1
/way 60.7 13.4
/way 59.5 17.2

This hatchling is by far the easiest to get on my server. Have gotten it over 9 times just by checking at odd hours (middle of the night, and around 2-3pm server time).
Have yet to see the one in Um'goro, and have only found the one in dust wallow 3 times (after checking dozens of times). Happy hunting!

Wowzers, i got so lucky on this one.

Reading all of the comments about 3-4 hour spawn times and such, i was a bit worn out after spending all day/night figuring out little timmys schedule for the white kitten. But, one of my friends and I were questing in the barens, he asked me to wait and not level any higher but i was enjoying playing my mage, i figured..what can i do..then because of my recent pet obsession i noticed this one was a bit of a journey but i was decently close to it.

At first i was confused thinking that oh gosh i have to have a flying mount to get to this guy, but no, i started checking the base of all the trees and on my first attempt at 3:10pm on the Feathermoon server I found him at the following coordinates.

These one is a keeper! One day I look for 2 1/2 hours, no luck! Next day went back found him in less than 5 minutes. If you keep at it you will find, it might seem hopeless but still try its worth it. Also look around trees and around the moutain area. The nest is around where the dots are. Good look and happy hunting!

Horde players with the Nozzlepot's Outpost FP can just stop by and run around the spawn points every time they fly through Kalimdor, just in case the egg has spawned.

I killed Takk and found the nest, 3 times this evening and it's the first time I'm farming pets.. Am I lucky or what? It only took 5min to find him, kill and find the nest all 3 times.
Kept one and sold 2 on ah. I'm gonna wait an hour again and see if Takk has respawned :p Easy way to make gold on.

And yeah, the nest spawns where the dots are on the map.

Stumbled on the nest while looking for Tak :) it was identical to the grown up version, and if it gets too far behind it leaps in the air to your side. Found Tak running around a few yards away a couple seconds later, it was a pretty lucky day for me. They were both very cute and awesome

1.Download the WoW-Addon TomTom and install it.

2.Move to Northern Barrens

3.Make a Macro including this:

4.Follow the TomTom-Arrow and look for nests.

The Leaping Hatchling comes from the Nest in the Northern Barrens and is a fun pet. I usually check the trees surrounding the mountain on which they usually spawn. If You check all there usually is one. In the AH it usually sells from 50g-500g. This is one of my favorite ones next to the Lashtail Hatchling.

It's been mentioned a few times that the raptors can spawn independently of the nests and the same is true of the reverse. I've looted two Darting Hatchlings with no sign of Dart. However, it's worth mentioning when I picked up my Leaping Hatchling and Razormaw Hatchling their respective rares were there. I've yet to get the Ravasaur Hatchling, though I did see the Matriarch and no nest the first time I looked for it.

These Hatchlings are quite unique as they do what the same suggests as the darting hatchling 'darting' it darts off away ahead of you :P then therse 'leaper' where it leaps alot :D don't know what the other 2 Hatchlings do but I'm sure they have something unique as well

I was on my horde alt, running around upping his herbalism, it was behind a tree, I thought when I click on it it will spawn a quest boss.
But got curious anyway because he is level 80 so no matter, I did and saw that is was a leaping hatching pet.

These sell from 50 gold to 200 gold or so depending on your realm, if youre on your way by , it's a good companion to get or even to sell. It's usually the first companion I get on new characters around barrens as it's closest.

Found one completly by accident while I was looking for plants to level herbalism at 62.20 in Northern Barrens. It looks like a raptor's nest. Once you click on it, you get the companion!

Thought I'd do a post laying out the different color variants of the hatchings, having recently completed my collection. I won't get into where each one comes from, as each link has plenty on that.

It's interesting that some of the hatchlings have very defined stripes on their backs, while others have less defined stripes and more like splotches/lines of color.

They are:
Darting Hatchling - Orange with cyan stripes and green eyes
Deviate Hatchling - Purple with cyan stripes and yellow eyes
Gundrak Hatchling - Cyan with dark blue splotches. Yellow eyes.
Leaping Hatchling - Dark Cyan, almost slate with violet splotches and yellow eyes
Obsidian Hatchling - Olive and sort of grey-purple with aqua splotches and yellow eyes (and round pupils, oddly enough)
Ravasaur Hatchling - Lime green with orange stripes and squinting orange eyes
Razormaw Hatchling - Light yellow-orange with blue stripes and green eyes
Razzashi Hatchling - Red/Burnt orange with green splotches. Cyan eyes.
Lashtail Hatchling - as the unique reward from An Old Friend, your 'aka has a slightly unique model. She's a bit bigger than the others, and has a more defined "beak" color. She also has large round eyes with round black pupils, whereas the others have the classic dinosaur thin line pupils. That aside, her colors are almost identical to Razzashi's, but with much larger stripes.

Most of the hatchlings do an idle roar(more of a screech really) animation/sound, with a few exceptions. One wanders around and leaps back to you with a screech when out of range (Leaping), one will tear off running around with a dust trail a la Egbert (Darting), and Lashtail reportedly will play with the bones of your fallen enemies.
(I could have sworn I'd seen a raptor other than Darting do the run but couldn't get him to do it, would like confirmation if anyone sees it)

I was doing archaeology today and remembered about these little hatchlings. I checked in Un'goro and Dustwallow Marsh but got nothing (even though i would think these would be there more often then not).

However, after a southern barrens dig, i decided to head up to the northern barrens and check out the nest there, and what do you know, the nest easiest for horde to get is sitting there ready for me to pick up. Takk was not there, or atleast i didnt bother to look for him. Cool little pet though.

You might care to download my Adorable Raptor Hatchlings AddOn at Curse.

It contains all the nest locations for all four raptor pets. The farm is easy enough. It is knowing exactly where to look and this AddOn has all that with ultra accurate coordinates.

The download page also lists the approximate respawn timers and provides a link to a video of the AddOn in action!

To find the Cucciolo Saltante, you need to go to the continent of Kalimdor, to the Savane Settentrionali region. You'll find it in Nido di Takk.
