This item will probably get nerfed in 3.1.2 due it obviously being overpowered. I suspect we will see the cool down being raised to 25 seconds (up from 10 seconds) and only have an 80% chance to face you in a random direction.

Also it is not possible to abuse this anymore by having two or more in your inventory as they all share the same cool down.

Get a 5-man group all with compasses. Start in Dalaran, spin your compass, and begin walking in the direction it points you. If you reach a wall or unclimbable cliff, mount up and fly over it but land, dismount, and continue moving in a straight line as soon as you can. Do not stop, attack, cast, vanish, blink, or pot. Last one alive wins!

When I was using this in Dalaran, I noticed that it seemed to keep pointing me at vendors. It's hard to tell, since sometimes they're indoors. Anyone else get this result.

Unfortunately Blizz seemed to hotfix (aka NERF) this item. You can no longer cast it while moving (or falling). Laame now I can't typhoon anyone to their deaths anymore and still survive. =( I'm a sad panda.

I got the same feeling about something circling Ulduar or moving around Stormpeaks. I was hoping it was tracking the Time Lost Protodrake, but I doubt it. When it led me off the edge of the map I decided to give up :/

So you can play with it for a bit, and when you get bored of it you can give it to someone else, like a hand me down toy.

Did some testing with this, and this is what I've determined. Imagine you are looking at 0 degrees. It will point you in a random direction from -90 to +90 degrees from where you start using the compass. If you rotate around it does not change the initial angle. I think this is also why it appears to move you up. You're not moving up really, just back to the altitude you started casting, since that is the position it saved you at.

I used this compas today to deside where i would camp time lost proto drake (y i know, lifeless :p). i use an addon which shows the routs of rare mobs, this compas keeps pointing to 4 points where the different routes of tlpd cross each other. when it pointed 2 times the same direction i went to the crossroad near Engine of the maker. after camping there a while, Vyragosa spawned (mob that shares the route of tlpd). dunno if this is where Unusual compas is for. but thats my theory. try it out ^^.

p.s. i stand btw on the middle of the frozen lake (bor's breath) when i use the compass. there is a figure on the frozen ice that points to 3 different routes tlpd flies. stand in the middel and start spinning :)

I did what it asked.
I was in Howling Fjord doing the Kalu'ak daily when I realized I haven't opened the fish bag yet. And there it was, the compass. It pointed directly to east, well, so I did go east, as long as my Fatigue held me. There's no Easter Kingdoms or Kalimdor when your in Northrend. The map showed that I'm inside Trisfal Glades, but all I could see was water and endless clouds. So I died due the fatigue problem, and spirit Rezzed in Westfall, while it sayd that my body is in Alterac Mountains.

Got this item the other day, and after reading these posts I was curious to what it pointed to as mine always lead me to Ulduar also.

It's not the TLPD it points to, it IS a reference to Pirates of the Caribbean - look past Ulduar and you will see.

I never went there myself til just now, but I ended up in Hrothgar's Landing, check it out and you'll see there's a ship just like the Black Pearl at 47.5, 49.4

So this guy on our server bought this for quite some gold (around 5000). He was told that it would direct him to (eventually) a mount. After three days, people started to feel bad and told him he was tricked. Don't know if he had stopped if they hadn't told him.

Jesus. You guys really go off on a tangent with this.

I cant confirm anything yet, but after about 30 uses in many areas it so far has always pointed me to the closest fishable water.

Makes sense to me since we get it from fishing.

Try it, and don't only think of huge lakes or the oceans, there are pools inside caves around the land also so if its pointing to a mountain, try and follow inside.

And some area's have no fishable water so it goes wackey then.

It's obvious the item doesn't have any useful abilities or spells within it, but it's perfect for a different tone of roleplaying.

And there's something I thought of, as I think this might be a reference to the compass, "Jack Sparrow" uses in the series of 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. It has been said that it leads you to what you want the most.

Also, that it can be achieved from fishing, makes it even more "related" to Pirates of the Caribbean.

Grabbed this item, first thing I did was Right-click it. As it finished casting and I turned a different direction, the only thing that came out of my mouth was: "Sweet!", as I waited for the 10 second cooldown to finish. This is now my favorite novelty item in World of Warcraft =)

Could be wrong, but from the results of a couple weeks of testing this in several areas, it seems to point you to the location of the nearest critter. Use the compass. Move in the compass direction till you find the critter. Use compass. Repeat.
Dunno what happens if you click (or kill, hug, love, etc.) all the critters it points to. I always get bored after the third lick and start biting.

Oh, this is a great item. As a GM i don't have to take my own desitions, in who i'll need to kick. Just put up all guildmembers in a circle and as a GM stand in the middle. Now, just press the compass and kick the one u look at.

ALRIGHT time to reveal the FULL AND HONEST TRUTH ABOUT THE COMPASS

i currently opened a ticket about said item, and the first GM gave me a bunch of stuff saying it led me to a Netherschism or somthing crazy and said to spin the compass the amount of times that was equal to my characters spirit number.

feeling like i was being messed with a trolled, i opened another ticket and asked another GM who was really sweet. she laughed a bit and said "yeah the compass is truly just turns you in a random direction, it doesnt show u the time lost proto drake, nor take u to treasure or a specific person or Npc."

Me- "really?"

"oh yeah, people ask about it pretty often, but all it really does is face u randomly. could be used for spin the bottle but thats pretty much it"

For those of you who haven't figured it out yet, whenever a Warlock tries to summon someone who's equipped Wirt's Third Leg and carrying this compass, they don't get teleported to the Warlock but rather to a secret level hidden in Elwynn Forest.

Note: There's a ton of cows there, so it should be easy to spot. ;)

I feel like this item is actually pointing at something in Draenor. Several uses it doesn't actually change my direction at all and it has yet to point me in any southern direction (when used from my garrison in frostfire). Before it was a toy, using it in Orgrimmar it would point in any direction. It's definitely got a bias now for some reason.

Word of caution: don't think you can get this from the Garrison Fishing Daily Quest which awards Pacco di Forniture di Pesca. Pacco di Forniture di Pesca doesn't drop Bussola Stravagante. After completing the daily 100+ times, I was wondering how unlucky (!) I was and came in to check the drop rate, as it turns out, it's 0% because it doesn't drop from it! You have to do the Dalaran Fishing Daily Quest in order to get this.

I've been messing around with this lately next to compass & telescope combos set up here and there in BFA, and it seems like whenever I use it next to a compass it keeps sending me right back to the same direction, multiple times in a row. Did this get an update? I feel like if it was truly random, the chances of me facing the exact same way even twice in a row would be next to nothing.

Update: I just did it a third time, next to the compass & telescope combo in the inn in Fallhaven (55.33, 34.27 in Drustvar), and I didn't move from the position that the compass put me in, and I tried it again. It did not move me one square inch. I am still facing the exact same way that it put me both the 1rst and 2nd times. It keeps facing me directly towards the "V" on the map in Fallhaven.

dunno where they're getting the information regarding AH prices, but its not worth 5k. you might get lucky and get maybe 10g for it...provided you don't have hundreds of people undercutting you for either a single silver or more.
