Looks like this along with all the other emotion food recipes will be world drops. As such they'll probably go for quite a bit like the Savory Deviate Delight.

This, along with three other recipes, are "emotion" foods. The buffs last two hours, but do nothing.

They seem to be fairly common random world drops.

A very interesting point to note. Last night when I was running "The Nexus" (wing: The Nexus) this recipe dropped from a random mob.

What was interesting about this was the fact that it was only lootable by those in the group who had a specific cooking skill. I'm currently sitting at a skill of 273, and of the five members running only 2 were able to roll on it.

Can anyone else who has looted this confirm whether a specific cooking skill level is required in order to loot?

Can anyone confirm that this only drops in normal or does it also drop on heroic? since i found all the other 3 recipes from normal runs, but now that im 80 i dont do normal runs anylonger so it would be nice if anyone could give some info on this

You have provided proof that this damn thing drops in that zone! Thank you! I wrote on the subject of how this seems to be limited to starting zones in Northrend and dungeons, but you're still apparently one of like 3 people to ever see it in that zone. The question is, is it a lower drop rate there...or does it have to do with who inhabits this zone most frequently and what their cooking skill is...

The following is the question in greater..well...much greater, what can I say, while sitting here during a munchie-fest I got quite interested in the mystery of the elusiveness of the haunted herring. The "green vernacular" has caused me greater interest in much less interesting things than this before, I'm quite sure, so oh well. Here's what I've posted on the other recipes..

Is it me, or has anyone else noticed that this recipe, like the other 3, has reported drop rates in basically only the 2 WOTLK starting zones, Howling Fjord and Borean Tundra, and then all the new dungeons? Just struck me as odd, and I think it may be because everyone that had previously maxed their cooking pre-expansion (350 to be able to see it on dead mobs and then submit drop data to wowhead) got these recipes rather quickly when they first entered the expansion at level 70, and thus never looted them in the other zones as they leveled up because they already had them, OR; the people that entered the expansion without maxed cooking didn't raise their cooking skill to 350 or further until they hit 80 and realized it's usefulness, and were no longer spending very much time in world zones and were basically only killing mobs in dungeons, which is where the other place these recipes have been shown to drop is located.

It's either that, or it really does hardly ever drop in any world zone besides the two starting zones. And if that's the case, then that means if you're going to go farm it (I know "farm" is being used in the loosest sense here, since we're talking about what zone to farm it in not even what area of a zone or type of mob ffs), either run instances or go back to Borean Tundra or Howling Fjord, as all 4 of these recipes have been seen with very rare exception only in those places.

With the cupcakes, they dropped outside of the areas I mentioned on 8 mobs total - 4 in Dragonblight, and 4 in Grizzly Hills (which is probably due to people who weren't lucky enough to snag all 4 in their first zone since these are the next 2 zones played normally), compared to dozens in Borean and Fjord, and that's all out of 200 listed drops, of course. Each recipe has 200 listed drops, which I believe is the max shown - so that we don't get into percentages in the thousands and millionths of a percent, and so on. You'll find basically the same pattern of drop with the recipes for herring and the mammoth as well, and of course also the clams.

And just to make it interesting and blow my initial theory out of the water, which seemed most likely to me and very well still could be, however...

I entered Northrend with maxed out cooking, and have done very, very few dungeons this time around (I think I've run 3 on heroic and that's it) and have spent probably 95% of my time questing my way through zones to level, starting in Borean Tundra where the most mobs are located that drop these recipes. (or Howling Fjord, roughly the same numbers). I have been 80 for some weeks now, and I'm still focusing on finishing every quest in Northrend, and have just finished the Storm Peaks after spending much time there, killing a lot of humanoids of the dwarven variety (seems to be the only mob type that drops these, humanoids that is) and have been working on Icecrown for a bit now. I've also been killing a lot of humanoids here - undead, but still humanoids - actually, hell, exclusively humanoids here. These 2 zones are where I have probably spent most of my time, and the rest divided evenly between Borean, then Dragonblight, then Grizzly, then Sholazar. I've only gotten the mammoth recipe to drop for me in all this time and through thousands and thousands of mobs, and the one recipe I got did indeed drop in Borean when I was still 70. Now I know the listed drop rates are in the 1% or less range, but we have to consider how many people can actually see it when using that number. So if it can drop off any humanoid in Northrend, which I think is currently the basic theory, then why have I killed vast thousands more of them in the 74-80 range in the zones they inhabit than mobs in the 70-73 range on the maps they live in, and have never seen any of the recipes drop there? Is it bad luck? Or is it the fact that...

..This seems to lend itself to the later theory of mine that this recipe really does only drop off of (if not only then for the vast majority of mobs in Northrend, albeit not exclusively but damn near close) humanoids in Borean Tundra, Howling Fjord, and all dungeons?

I know this is a very detailed inquiry of my own into the best way to get these recipes, and drop data has to be handled carefully for items that not everyone can see, and that I think won't show up once you've looted it once already - I'm sure someone can verify this if they've seen the same recipe twice while solo. I don't think it would count if you saw it again in a group where someone else had 350+ cooking and did not yet have it, making it lootable to them but viewable to you since you meet the requirements. At any rate, it had been annoying me that I have been unable to get these recipes as a quick look at this achievement makes you think these are the type of things you're just going to get while you're questing out there, and not have to hunt them down when you've been 350 since you got to Northrend and have now long been 80. This just doesn't seem like an epic scale achievement when done by preparing all the food yourself, does it?

Please contribute your experience in regard to these ideas and hopefully it will prove where to really find these. Either I'll get downranked for the longest dissertation on the investigation of why haunted herring recipes are so hard to obtain, or people will be interested in my 2 different ideas as to the problem of "I'll second that emotion", and second my emotion. =]

This dropped for me off of some trash mobs while I was tanking Heroic Utgarde Keep. Was the only cook who could get it. Made the run a little worth while, didnt need any drops, the dps we had was horrid, i was 2nd on dps done, 1st on overall damage. : \

My cooking skill is 432 and I totally forgot about these recipes. I ended up getting all four of them in a little under an hour in Kaskala, Borean Tundra. I simply killed the Kvaldir Raiders as they came off the boats.

Just got this from Yorus the flesh harvester. Got it after 40-something kills. Less than an hour. Good thing is he respwans on top of you so it was easy. Just stand in the middle and wait for him.

I just tried to get the receipe from Varidus the Flenser, after killing him his body disappeared befor i could loot. If you are tryin to get this receipe from this possiblity loot fast, cause you will literally only have 1 sec loot time. :(

But after farming Luthion the Vile for 1,5 hour, I've got it!

It seems that floating around in the Borean Tundra is a good start. Questing there with my girlfriend, she accidentally attacked Bane, a 70 elite, and he dropped this recipe, so she is very happy now. Well... scared, I guess.

I did notice that Bane isn't in the list of NPC's that drop this recipe though. Too bad I didn't have my Wowhead Looter running...

FWIW, I've farmed the Kvaldir Raiders in Kaskala successfully for this recipe previously but recently farmed them for over an hour with no success. Looking at the "Dropped By" list, Kvaldir Raiders doesn't appear. Several of the 'usual' sites and mobs we used to farm for mats no longer seem to be valid (e.g. Frostweave Cloth from mobs that spawned by the big giant lady in Scholazar Basin comes to mind).

As a level 85 with max cooking, I can say the Haunted Herring recipe DOES still drop! Finally! I got it tonight from one of the Kaskala Raiders. I've been working on this for about a week now. Very excited to have my Chef title finally.

I managed to pick up all 4 of the recipies from Tracker Gekgek and his two guards in Sholozar Basin. Only farmed for about 40 minutes but you have to be hated with the Frenzyheart Tribe. L85 character and 500+ cooking so its still possible.

Got all four drop recipes from the Converted Hero within an hour. Do not be spooked by the fact that neither of the recipes are not listed in the drop table. Happy farming! :)

I've been farming Converted Hero mobs with no luck. I try for a couple of hours almost every day. I HATE this recipe! I did the Kungaloosh quest track for that recipe, and it wasn't bad. This has the worst drop rate ever!

And as soon as I write about it here, it drops on the 2nd mobs of Converted Heroes. Argh!

Ight folks, when i came here for some usefull info i only found top post tellin' obvious things, so for y'all who struggled and might thought its impossible to loot this recipe in cata for 85 lvl chars, i present you this npc (NPC #25227). It spawns constantly so you wont have to wait loads of time to farm these mobs, as for me i got all of 4 recipes during like 30 minutes. Good luck!

Confirmed 3:23 Central Time, Server: Uldum, Lvl:87 Cooking 548 at 64,48 in Borean Tundra, Dropped off a random Kavaldir mob coming off their ships took me 5 min of farming, Good Luck to those that still need this recipe :D

For all you chefs still looking for this or any of the emotion foods, I highly recommend the Kaskala area in Borean Tundra as stated in the other comment. I needed recipes for Haunted Herring and Bad Clams, and after 10 min of farming the raiders I had both. This is by far the best way to obtain the achieve. This was done on an 85 with 528 cooking.

I got this recipe and the Tasty Cupcake one from the Icecrown Raid. I got it from random mobs in the start of the raid (before the first boss), surprised me to get these repicies and quite funny I got two of them. I do not think I have seen them before

I'm not sure if they've improved the drop rate or if I was just very lucky, but I received all four "emotion food" recipes in a single run of Naxxramus. So, if you're like me and picking away at old achievements, a run of Naxx should get you the recipes. Good luck!

Edit: I should mention that all four recipes dropped off trash and none came from the bosses.

Haunted Herring: I farmed these like 2 minutes and Recipe: Haunted Herring dropped.

I runned 1x heroic and 2x normal Ahn'Kahet: The Old Kingdom and killed every npc.
At first run (HC) Recipe: Tasty Cupcake dropped.
At second run (Normal) Recipe: Last Week's Mammoth dropped.
At third run (Normal) Recipe: Bad Clams dropped.

Been trying to farm this on the Bloodpaw Warriors for weeks now. No luck. Of course, I got all three other recipes to drop from the other bloodpaws in the area, but still no Haunted Herring... there's about 15 bloodpaws in the Dragonblight area, and with a 0.7% droprate, that's about 10% chance each time they spawn. By those odds I should have gotten the recipe like 20 times now :(

EDIT: LITERALLY 30 SECONDS LATER IT DROPPED! Wow... I guess all I needed to do was complain about it online. STAY VIGILANT FRIENDS!
