I find it a bit strange with a BoP world drop since it will be pure luck if you get it or not. Especially since it's a part of a cooking achievement.

This, along with three other recipes, are "emotion" foods. The buffs last two hours, but do nothing.

They seem to be fairly common random world drops.

As soon as I got Grandmaster Cooking, the emotion food recipes have been dropping like flies. I already have 3 of the 4 within a day of light questing and killing at mid-high 70s, two of them within a minute of each other doing the Grizzly Hills dailies.

Is it me, or has anyone else noticed that this recipe, like the other 3, has reported drop rates in basically only the 2 WOTLK starting zones, Howling Fjord and Borean Tundra, and then all the new dungeons? Just struck me as odd, and I think it may be because everyone that had previously maxed their cooking pre-expansion (350 to be able to see it on dead mobs and then submit drop data to wowhead) got these recipes rather quickly when they first entered the expansion at level 70, and thus never looted them in the other zones as they leveled up because they already had them, OR; the people that entered the expansion without maxed cooking didn't raise their cooking skill to 350 or further until they hit 80 and realized it's usefulness, and were no longer spending very much time in world zones and were basically only killing mobs in dungeons, which is where the other place these recipes have been shown to drop is located.

It's either that, or it really does hardly ever drop in any world zone besides the two starting zones. And if that's the case, then that means if you're going to go farm it (I know "farm" is being used in the loosest sense here, since we're talking about what zone to farm it in not even what area of a zone or type of mob ffs), either run instances or go back to Borean Tundra or Howling Fjord, as all 4 of these recipes have been seen with very rare exception only in those places.

With the cupcakes, they dropped outside of the areas I mentioned on 8 mobs total - 4 in Dragonblight, and 4 in Grizzly Hills (which is probably due to people who weren't lucky enough to snag all 4 in their first zone since these are the next 2 zones played normally), compared to dozens in Borean and Fjord, and that's all out of 200 listed drops, of course. Each recipe has 200 listed drops, which I believe is the max shown - so that we don't get into percentages in the thousands and millionths of a percent, and so on. You'll find basically the same pattern of drop with the recipes for herring and the mammoth as well, and of course also the clams.

And just to make it interesting and blow my initial theory out of the water, which seemed most likely to me and very well still could be, however...

I entered Northrend with maxed out cooking, and have done very, very few dungeons this time around (I think I've run 3 on heroic and that's it) and have spent probably 95% of my time questing my way through zones to level, starting in Borean Tundra where the most mobs are located that drop these recipes. (or Howling Fjord, roughly the same numbers). I have been 80 for some weeks now, and I'm still focusing on finishing every quest in Northrend, and have just finished the Storm Peaks after spending much time there, killing a lot of humanoids of the dwarven variety (seems to be the only mob type that drops these, humanoids that is) and have been working on Icecrown for a bit now. I've also been killing a lot of humanoids here - undead, but still humanoids - actually, hell, exclusively humanoids here. These 2 zones are where I have probably spent most of my time, and the rest divided evenly between Borean, then Dragonblight, then Grizzly, then Sholazar. I've only gotten the mammoth recipe to drop for me in all this time and through thousands and thousands of mobs, and the one recipe I got did indeed drop in Borean when I was still 70. Now I know the listed drop rates are in the 1% or less range, but we have to consider how many people can actually see it when using that number. So if it can drop off any humanoid in Northrend, which I think is currently the basic theory, then why have I killed vast thousands more of them in the 74-80 range in the zones they inhabit than mobs in the 70-73 range on the maps they live in, and have never seen any of the recipes drop there? Is it bad luck? Or is it the fact that...

..This seems to lend itself to the later theory of mine that this recipe really does only drop off of (if not only then for the vast majority of mobs in Northrend, albeit not exclusively but damn near close) humanoids in Borean Tundra, Howling Fjord, and all dungeons?

I know this is a very detailed inquiry of my own into the best way to get these recipes, and drop data has to be handled carefully for items that not everyone can see, and that I think won't show up once you've looted it once already - I'm sure someone can verify this if they've seen the same recipe twice while solo. I don't think it would count if you saw it again in a group where someone else had 350+ cooking and did not yet have it, making it lootable to them but viewable to you since you meet the requirements. At any rate, it had been annoying me that I have been unable to get these recipes as a quick look at this achievement makes you think these are the type of things you're just going to get while you're questing out there, and not have to hunt them down when you've been 350 since you got to Northrend and have now long been 80. This just doesn't seem like an epic scale achievement when done by preparing all the food yourself, does it?

Please contribute your experience in regard to these ideas and hopefully it will prove where to really find these. Either I'll get downranked for the longest dissertation on the investigation of why haunted herring recipes are so hard to obtain, or people will be interested in my 2 different ideas as to the problem of "I'll second that emotion", and second my emotion. =]

This dropped for me within 15 minutes of being in howling fjiord at lvl 68 while killing 'North Fleet Marine's' for one of the first quests in starting area. My cooking was at 350. I wanted to add this bit of information since these npcs arent even listed under the drop rates for this item. Also I got all 4 emotion recipes in the howling fjord questing areas over the course of 3 days.

I have 325 cooking (at lvl 71, took some time off from leveling to raise profs), and I just saw this one drop while doing the quests for D.E.H.T.A. maybe the minimum required to see this drop is 300-325, although 325 is more likely.

I actully picked this up while farming timbermaw hold rep in Felwood (no where near Northrend/WoLK areas). What I dont understand is why that is not listed here or under the drops for the mobs I was killing. (but hopeing that it means the other 3 might be found anywhere by a high enough cook) My two cents.

I think it might be worth to mention here that this recipe, along with the three other mood food recipes, can now be bought by the cooking supplies guy in Dalaran for Dalaran Cooking Awards. Hopefully this will spare others from many hours of farming, like I had to experience to receive my Chef Title and Hail to the Chef achievement.

Recipe for Tasty Cupcake and Haunted Herring seem to have a high drop rate off of Venture Co. Workers in Sholozar Basin. I was doing quests that led up to the Kungaloosh chain and both dropped within 5 minutes of each other.

Got this Recipe: Bad Clams when it dropped off a Loot Crazed Diver in Borean Tundra, Northrend. They are the guys swimming around in the water.

I had 2 more of the emotion recipies to get. So, I headed out to battle the Kvaldir Raiders near Kaskala after they depart the boats.

Within 5 minutes, Ricetta: Bivalve Avariato had dropped.

Maybe 15-20 minutes later, I got Ricetta: Aringa Tormentata

I managed to pick up all 4 of the recipies from Tracker Gekgek and his two guards in Sholozar Basin. Only farmed for about 40 minutes but you have to be hated with the Frenzyheart Tribe. L85 character and 500+ cooking so its still possible.

This dropped for me off of one of the random Alliance NPCs while I was doing the Blackriver Brawl daily in Grizzly Hills. Normally I wouldn't loot them, but I've been saving up gold for Mechanohog parts. Never expected this recipe to show up.

Simple advice: loot everything. You just never know!

I went solo into The Nexus (normal), specifically hoping to find it, and it dropped right before I got to Telestra.

Got all four drop recipes from the Converted Hero within an hour. Do not be spooked by the fact that neither of the recipes are not listed in the drop table. Happy farming! :)

Ight folks, when i came here for some usefull info i only found top post tellin' obvious things, so for y'all who struggled and might thought its impossible to loot this recipe in cata for 85 lvl chars, i present you this npc (NPC #25227). It spawns constantly so you wont have to wait loads of time to farm these mobs, as for me i got all of 4 recipes during like 30 minutes. Good luck!

Went to Icecrown to farm the Bad Clam Recipe from the Converted Hero's as this is the last recipe I am missing.
After 200 kills I got :

2 Runic Mana Potion
2 Runic Healing Potion
3 Gray Chest Item
1 Scroll of Spirit VII
4 Thick Fur Clothing Scraps
4 Honeymint Tea
10 Sparking Frostcap
40 Frostweave Cloth

Oke for people in legion with max cooking and max lvl don't even bother to go look for them. i Have been farming them for hours and hours, killing 1000s Kvaldir Raiders near Kaskala not 1 drop at all. i reported this to blizzard maybe they fix it by now. There is 1 solution and less work just lvl a 60 alt and go farm them i got them all from Kvaldir Raiders in around a hour.

Easiest place I've found to farm Ricetta: Bivalve Avariato is by killing Combattente Mjordin, just stand in the center and start spamming for 2 minutes, loot, repeat. The mobs respawn immediately:

This place seems to be coded so that at least 3 of them are present at one time. In other words, it doesn't matter how fast can you kill them, they will respawn immediately. In addition, they will jump to whoever aggroed them, so as a Warlock I could dot them standing in the center of arena and they would all jump to me and die, leaving countless corpses.

I'm not sure if they've improved the drop rate or if I was just very lucky, but I received all four "emotion food" recipes in a single run of Naxxramus. So, if you're like me and picking away at old achievements, a run of Naxx should get you the recipes. Good luck!

Edit: I should mention that all four recipes dropped off trash and none came from the bosses.

Haunted Herring: I farmed these like 2 minutes and Recipe: Haunted Herring dropped.

I runned 1x heroic and 2x normal Ahn'Kahet: The Old Kingdom and killed every npc.
At first run (HC) Recipe: Tasty Cupcake dropped.
At second run (Normal) Recipe: Last Week's Mammoth dropped.
At third run (Normal) Recipe: Bad Clams dropped.
