this potion will give you ~15,25% haste @ level 80
so Potion of Speed for a lvl 80 character is weaker than Haste Potion for a lvl 70 character

(at the time of this comment wowhead is missing the exact percentage for this potion. so I just wanted to add it)

in WotLK Beta haste rating will also serve as spell haste so casters will also gain benefit from this potion

You can sometimes get 2 pots in a single fight if it makes sense to take one before the pull. This can work on fights like Patchwerk since currently tanks have insane TPS generation. But for most fights, you'll get one pot CD.

Since this potion stacks with bloodlust/heroism, it can really give an advantage to those "emergency" portions of a fight when a mob must die within a short time-frame. Sartharion with 3 Drakes is a good example.

With Judgement of the Pure, Heroism , Haste Gear and this all combined, my Holy Pally can dish out some seriously fast heals. These are great for healers to use during the most intense part of a fight when they know they arent going to run out of mana.

Isn't it weird that you get this item when you ding 80 but it requiers lvl 70?

Ye i it is also crafted and lowbies can use it, but Blizz could have created a lvl 80 version of this.

They are referring to the gift that Rhonin (leader of the Kirin Tor of Dalaran) gives every player when they reach lvl 80, Junyed. The gift contains 5 of these potions and some healing/mana potions as well.

How could you forget the fireworks? The fireworks are the best part. But in all seriousness these are freaking amazing. When I dinged 80 on my mage these just sat in my bag till I thought hell I'll use one. It was amazing. My alchemist recently discovered this and with a FFB mage it is shocking the speed I go. If I drink this, pop icy veinz and get heroism, my FFB are 1.4 second casts. Its amazing.

Here are some Rawr calculations for the new Potion of Wild Magic in comparison with the Potion of Speed, using my mage's stats (~2000 spell power unbuffed):

0/53/18 Frostfire spec: Potion of Speed = 406 DPS; Potion of Wild Magic = 407.54 DPS
57/3/11 Arcane spec: Potion of Speed = 431 DPS; Potion of Wild Magic = 333.67 DPS
53/18/0 Arcane w/ Improved Scorch spec: Potion of Speed = 411.5 DPS, Potion of Wild Magic = 313.62 DPS
18/53/0 Fireball spec: Potion of Speed = 520 DPS, Potion of Wild Magic = 446 DPS (added this spec a week after the others, the numbers are higher because now they account for some raid debuffs like Ebon Plague, but the ratios for everything should still be accurate).

For Arcane mages, Potion of Speed wins hands down, but Frostfire mages will probably benefit a little more from Potion of Wild Magic, which also happens to be more mana efficient. Fireball spec (which is higher DPS than Frostfire now) benefits more from Speed.

Doesn't work anymore; now Shadowmeld is pretty much just a temporary threat dump (seems they've broken it again though; now mobs can find you and smack you out of it even if the rest of the group dies).

The question is whether or not this is now better than Insane Strength Potion. It's already more easily accessible than ISP, due to the now plentiful Suckerfish and rare-world-drop status of ISP recipe, but pre-3.1, ISP was better than Speed Pot for ret pallies, and likely DKs as well. Possibly even warriors.

Come 3.1 though, I believe haste got buffed to now be about half as valuable as STR, which would put the haste pot as the new, clear winner.

Can easily get around the 1 per boss limit by popping a haste potion right before a pull. Although melee classes may not get full benefit from it, it will still give a minor dps boost which is great for hardmode fights such as Hodir. I love my Rapid Fire in a bottle!

Make sure you time this together with procs to make the most out of it.
Since there is no shaman in my raid group, if I'm gonna pop one of these, I pop it the second my Dying Curse procs, so that I can get maximum benefit.
Some boss fights such as Hodir, have effects that will boost dps (in hodir's case, starlight and storm power). It is advisable to use this potion when you are sure that you will gain the benefit from these mechanics for the duration of this potion.
On Hodir, this is especially true as the haste benefit from this is multiplied by starlight, resulting in 260% haste and a 200% spell power bonus totaling a 520% dmg buff for 15 seconds, as opposed to a 400% without this potion.

However, keep in mind that there is such a thing as too much haste rating. This is when a spell cast is shorter than 1 second which means the GCD is longer than the cast, resulting in downtime. Heroism and starlight are effects that mess with the GCD as well, however the normal minimum GCD is 1 second.
(Your probably not going to hit this problem but if your class uses lots of quick casts, bear this in mind)

Edit: As Darkdog pointed out below, Also never pop this when your threat dump (iceblock, soulshatter, feign death, etc.) is on CD or else you can easily get boss stomped.

Because our gargoyle benefits from whatever Haste rating we had when we summoned it, this is an excellent potion for Unholy Death Knights. Using one of these potions on top of Bloodlust/Heroism before summoning your Gargoyle will give it the benefit of both, greatly increasing the damage your Gargoyle can deal. If you are an Engineer, you can throw in Hyperspeed Accelerators for an even greater boost.

For ease of use, you can use a macro such as this:
#showtooltip Summon Gargoyle
/use Potion of Speed
/cast Summon Gargoyle

However, using a macro can put you at a disadvantage in longer fights -If the fight is going to take more than 3 minutes, you have time to summon your gargoyle more than once, and the potion will automatically be used the first time. This is a potential DPS loss if your raid doesn't pop heroism at the beginning of the fight. For this reason you may want to bind the potion to your action bars instead of using a macro.

Just a little Info for a Warrior wondering if they should use these(im Fury so i cant say for sure on Arms)
It works wonders if use it at the rigth time

Heroism(Bloodlust)-->Bloodrage-->Recklessness-->Death Wish

And any Trinkets CDs/Procs you have up (for me its Herkuml War Totem)

Then Pop of these Babies and watch the DPS fly in

i have used these and SWARE my toon with Alchemist profession (witch is caped at skill 525)could make this but when i serched the list of items i can make with my Alcemist i could not find it listed, typed in its name other potions came up but "potion of speed" did not, so i checked witch trainers teach you how make create this item, i went to the first 1 and id had already learned all they can train you, so i check the list of what this nyc teachs, "potion or speed" was not listed, i checked the next nyc listed as teaching this, again not listed under what they teach, any clue whats going on? was the name chanced? was this item removed?

tried to get as high haste as possible @ lvl 70, popped this and Lifebloom (rank 6) - I ended up with a little over 56 % I actually had 0,916 sec cast time on my Mind Blast :P

By macroing this potion with Zealotry, my haste stacking Ret can achieve a 3.0 second Crusader Strike cooldown completely self-buffed. Needless to say, it is a powerful combo, with a rotation of Crusader Strike > Templar's Verdict for 20 seconds coupled with Avenging Wrath and my on-use strength trinket, perhaps stacked as well with 20% extra strength from Guardian of the Ancient Kings.

Does this still work? I have a Haste of 81, and I can't see any difference in how fast I can move before and after taking this potion. Is haste the same as movement speed?
