It does indeed work just like rogue poison. Tested it on my Alch Rogue a few days ago.

Averages out to 7.8 extra damage per hit.
As it is only a temporary enchant, it will not stack with other temporary enchants. It will, however, stack with permanent enchants, such as Mongoose.

Is the effect of this potion overruled by a Shaman's Rockbiter weapon buff?

I'm a Shammy Alchemist and am not sure if I should try to get my hands on this. If I don't get any answers, I'll perform the experiment and post the results.

This is a very useful item, Perfect for starting twinks (new to the 29 Bracket) or Vets to the bracket. Also they're good for leveling adding the extra damage we could all use. Would be nice if it proc'd on spell cast though... Oh well, I dare to dream.

Theoretically Shadowbolt 3 *should* cause more damage than rank 2 of any rogue poison. It'd at least be something cool to try out.

on my lvl 29twink rogue i have this on DW and i seen it hit for 50-100dmg...by far this is the best item to use in bg's and i think cuz i'm poisen spec it hits that hard

This does proc in druid forms now. Just tested it on my lvl 40 druid in cat form.

Edit: Patch 3.0.3 does so all "chance on hit" enchants, oils and other effects can proc while in forms...

i can say only one thing about this thing.

I am a 29 pala twink, and i use http://www.wowhead.com/?item=9459 with http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=20034, making this weapon with the new patch and the http://www.wowhead.com/?item=41094, this thing makes me an approx. 55% chance to hit with a spell. This is the BEST combo for any paladin. Do not even think using a sharp. stone, its a flat + 6 dmg, nothing great.

Any warr or pala can use this without worries, and with the new http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=55480, i can farm these mats and get this fast and easy.

At the release of Lich King, temporary weapon enhancements (oils & stones) worked on items all the way to those requiring level 80 (I applied it to Totemic Purification Rod with no problems), this was changed by Blizzard within weeks of release. After much experimenting I found that (at version 3.0.9) the current cut off for using these is any weapon with item value of 162 (as rated in the Armory). Any weapon at or above 166 will alert the user that the attempt failed but will not consume the object. I was able to apply oil to a Levitating Dagger (BOE green) which requires level 75 to use.

If you are under level 24, you can still use this.

As long as your weapon has an item level of 24 or higher, another player level 24 or higher can put shadow oil on your weapons through a trade window.

Sounds quite powerful, a chance for a level 19 character to be instantly casting shadow bolt.

After some testing it looks like the shadow bolt doesn't scale to spell power :(
Hits for about 45 for me no matter what my sp is, and crits for around 90.

Edit: Also tested shadow power, but no increase in overall damage.

In my opinion, you should always use items like these. Weapon oil, sharpening stones etc. They are extremely easy to make, and reasonably cheap on the auction house, and they give such an extreme boost.

As patch 5.2 it cannot be applied to heirloom weapons. It start casting but in the end you get the message - "target is too low level". By the way, i tried to apply this enchant using my level 90 char, so that error message was not because my char was bellow the required level 24 to apply this temporary enchant.

I tried Shadow Oil today on my heirloom mace and it no longer fails. i'm guessing it was fixed somewhere in this last patch (tried the last patch and still didn't worked)

Did it with my 29 twink enh Shaman btw.
