This is WotLK's version of Mote of Shadow.

This will probably be a new elemental reagent, just like Mote/Primal in TBC. 10 of these can be turned into 1 'Eternal Shadow'. And, the 'Eternal Shadow' may be turned back into 10 Cryztalized Shadow (Just like with the Lesser and Greater Essences in Enchanting). Can be mined from Saronite Node's, both rich and normal.

The Deathbringer Revenants in Frostmourne Cave (Dragonblight) also drop these, if you're looking for a place earlier in the game. Don't know the drop rate, but I got three in about 20 minutes. And the respawn rate is good, I never stopped fighting.

A great place to farm these is in wintergrasp when your faction controls the zone.

The little mobs there called 'wondering shadow' have a chance to drop them, feels pretty low to me, maybe 10%, BUT, when your faction has the zone you can see bigger mobs called 'Shadow Revenant' they have a good chance to drop them, up to 3 at a time.

These guys are big and have about 25k health, theyre still no trouble to solo, but life will be made difficult if you try to go around peak server time and have trouble from the opposing faction.

Casters would do well to avoid Wintergrasp for these. The Wandering Shadows apply a debuff quite frequently that reduces the damage from spells by 75%.

I'm not sure why Snowblind Ghouls are listed as dropping it. They are one of a number of mobs in the basin that spawn very quickly, in large amounts, because you have to kill 200 of them in a vehicle quest.

Just out of curiosity, I went and killed a few, but they didn't drop any loot at all. So if they do drop anything, it's far and few between (making these a poor choice for farming).

The "Reagent for" tab shows that it requires 9 Crystallized Shadow to create an Eternal Shadow, however the way Blizzards spell works is a little misleading.

You "Use" one of the Crystallized Shadow's which casts a spell that requires another 9 to create an Eternal. It requires 10 in total.

Rich Saronite Nodes are a rich source of this. I've got up to 8 from mining just one, along with about 7 ore, and a Huge Citrine.

Otherwise, the normal Saronite nodes also have a fairly good drop rate... Miners/Enchanters will love it.

You can get a ton from mining, so they don't go for much on the AH (on Lightbringer EU, that is... But I'd take a guess that it's much the same on most realms).

Hello,

I have been farming these for the last hour in Wintergrasp (Alliance Controlled). Coords 18.59 and north of that to about 17.47.
The Wandering Shadows rarely drop Crystallized Shadow but the main mobs Shadow Revenant drop them everytime (between 1 to 3 Crystallized Shadow)

If you also require Crystallized Earth, these can be found around 63.31 and Crystallized Water around 76.42

After some farming from Shadow Revenant with protection warrior (no downtime) I came up with an average of 3-4 Crystallized Shadow dropped per minute what's about a stack of Eternal Shadow per hour.

Post patch 4.2. Farmed these from the Deathbringer Revenant in Dragonblight for exactly one hour and I got about 87 of these. Not bad if you don't want to deal with Wintergrasp.

I'm also a level 85 destruction warlock, so it felt a lot like giving one shots at these things, but their spawn rate is still very fast.

Need this for some Leatherworking. Wintergrasp is the spot to go. The revenants are not that bad and you can get a good stack pretty quickly. I'm a rogue :)

Not dropped by Skeletal Reavers in Icecrown. Skeletal Reavers (80 Elite) in Icecrown Glacier have no loot and are not lootable. I killed about 10 or more (kept adding, as the often travel a straight line in about 10 second intervals) and not a single drop except for a Converted Hero, who added, and had only silver pieces).

As of 3/19/2012. Ditto on Frostbitten Corpses. Not a lootable mob.

Regarding the Wintergrasp location, it should be noted that the Shadow Revenant has a significantly higher (I believe 100%?) drop-rate for Crystallized Shadow than the Wandering Shadow (however there are more Wandering Shadows than Revenants). The area that spawns both creatures is "The Forest of Shadows" around 15/50.

Also, if you are a miner, there is a fair amount of Saronite Ore in Wintergrasp which has a chance to drop various "crystallized" elements.

Farming crystallized shadow in Frostmourne cave, I got up to 10 eternal shadows in about an hour.
The respawn time is incredible, You cant get to the back of the cave because as soon as you get the front cleared, they respawn.
It's a perfect place to farm these.

Just to pool information from many different pages relating to this item. This item can be obtained from 5 different sources:

The Auction House
- However, these may be very expensive depending on your server.
- If you have Estrazione:
  
  Deposito di Saronite (mining level 400)
- Deposito Ricco di Saronite (mining level 425)
- These two nodes appear to be most abundant in Icecrown, Northrend.
- NOTE: if you see the nodes underground by Rocca della Corona di Ghiaccio, they are accessible by jumping down into a long, vertical tunnel around the middle of the outer-portion of the Citadel. It will dismount you if you fly down it. Don't fret; there is a portal next to a human child, within the cave below, that will port you back above ground.
- Regular mob farming:
  
  Araldo Spettrale della Morte located in Dragonblight, Northrend.
- Ombra Errante located in Wintergrasp, Northrend.
- Spettro dell'Ombra located in Wintergrasp, Northrend (only visible when your faction controls the zone).

  You can purchase one Ombra Eterna from Frozo il Rinomato in Dalaran, in exchange for one Globo Congelato, which can be obtained in 3 ways:

- Killing and looting the last boss of any heroic, Northrend dungeon.

You can Trasmutazione: Terra Eterna in Ombra (Must have alchemy level 405 and at least be character-level 45).

This pattern is "Discovered" according to Wowhead.
Terra Eterna = 10 Terra Cristallizzata.
Note: According to owlmanatt, this transmute's "cooldown is shared with the Cataclysm transmute CD."

You can Trasmutazione: Vita Eterna in Ombra (Must have alchemy level 405 and at least be character-level 45).

Vita Eterna = 10 Vita Cristallizzata.

Somebody has mentioned farming these in Frostmourne Cavern.

This is correct, but they didn't add more info.

You will go to Frostmourne Cavern, Dragonblight /way 74 24.

You will be farming Araldo Spettrale della Morte. Even if Wowhead mentions a 22% drop rate, they respawn instantly, in the first leg of the cave, so you don't ever have to move deeper. They seem to drop in a similar fashion as Acqua Cristallizzata from Spirito Bollente which means 1 or 2 with a guaranteed gray. I never count my farms and times (it's just not satisfying!), but I did get the 50 to finish levelling Northrend Leatherworking overnight (4-5 hours).
