You can delete it, but i wouldn't recommend it - i deleted it to save space in my bags, then discovered what it was used for and went back to get another....as of today (16 Nov) the NPC claims to have given me a new prison, but nothing is appearing in my bags :(

Make sure your minimap says you are in Coldarra or the Transitus Shield when trying to use this - if you get too close to the Nexus it won't work.

Click on this item in your bag and a NPC will apear and give you a quest.

So it seems he doesn't give it back, however there is other way.

Talk to him and select the option "What is the cause of this conflict?"
Then select that you lost your Augmented Arcane Prison. I got it back like this.

About losing the item...

I deleted it a while ago because I already had Loremaster in total. Until I decided, when I was bored, to actually finish every quest I could.

After clicking multiple times on the option to give the orb, he didnt gave anything.

Relogging + turning off addons worked for me.

If you are a fresh arrival at Coldarra and you want to get to get the Augmented Arcane Prison and the subsequent quests as quickly as possible, what you want to do is simply farm the Coldarra Spellbinders at around 32, 26 until the Scintillating Fragment drops. Shouldn't take too long at all and this will get the quest chain underway.

I realized something interesting when I finished the quest for this. One of the mobs you have to kill is named Cerulean, which besides being a reference to the color blue, also happens to be the name of a city in the Pokemon game. Making this really interesting is the quest reward, which is essentially a Pokeball.

As many people are still fleshing out their WotLK / Northrend content in this starting zone, or even trying to wrangle some Lega dei Draghi reputation, I felt this mini-guide would be extremely helpful to new and experienced players alike. It should be noted that the majority of these quests count towards Divertimento boreale which also leads one towards . =^)

These quest series begin by discovering a Frammento Scintillante (right-click on this item in the player's bags), dropping from one of the Vincolamagie di Ibernias, which then starts the first quest chain .
*Player note: Do not confuse the Vincolamagie di Ibernias (humanoids) with Mistica della Magia di Ibernias (which are dragonkin)*

Curioso... which after turning in to Raelorasz at the Transitus Shield gives players...

La cella where you search for two other fragments of an arcane prison (Intelaiatura della Prigione / Nucleo d'Energia. Items acquired at this point become Prigione Arcana Aumentata upon turn-in.
*Player note: Both items are found only on the two blue dragon micro-bosses (Generale Cerulean / Araldo della Guerra Gordrak) in the center of the blue round magic circles outside of the Nexus fissures.*

Here it appears this chain ends, but actually continues on in a 2nd chain. If you lose your Prigione Arcana Aumentata at any time, speak to Raelorasz at the Transitus Shield for a free replacement.
*Player note: Just be certain that it wasn't placed in the bank during a side trip, as there aren't any banks within a large portion of this zone (including the Hold). If he doesn't automagically give you the option to replace it, try clicking the "What is the cause of this conflict?" to bring it up.*

Upon right-clicking Prigione Arcana Aumentata, player then releases Keristrasza who then begs for assistance to confront Malygos by talking to her once the player is ready for the Nexus raid zone.

Keristrasza allows players to speak to her again to continue the chain.
*Player note: If she somehow gets lost or the player drops the quest, it is best advised to go just outside of the Shield and summon her for each next quest, as other locations sometimes quest error or are incorrect areas.*

L'esca perfetta has players collect 10 Frammento di Mana Cristallizzatos (which are the pink crystal plants all over Coldarra) to make bait to beat his blue dragon guardian, Saragosa human form / Saragosa (dragon non-quest form). Pretty self-explanatory, just turn them in when done.

Once collected she calls for La fine di Saragosa and gives players a Focalizzatore del Potere Arcano with which to bait Saragosa and drag back Cadavere di Saragosa for another quest.
*Player note: When ready, talk to Keristrasza and she will teleport the player to Saragosa's platform up way above. Use the Focalizzatore del Potere Arcano to summon her and she'll arrive in dragon form then change to human form for the fight. When dead, call Keristrasza and turn in the quest, accept the next quest and stop talking to her. Speak to her again for a FREE teleport back down to the ground for the next turn-in.*

Radunare i Draghi Rossi is where she asks players to carry her to Raelorasz back at Transitus Shield (in the Prison). Turn it in!

Raelorasz then wants players to start Far scattare la trappola by using Scintilla di Raelorasz to light a signal fire on some bundles of wood to the northwest of the Nexus at coords 25.5, 22.
*Player note still valid by user beachboy:
1. Open your map. Move your character so that the arrow representing your position is directly above the "N" and to the left of "The" in "The Nexus" on the map. The bundle of wood you have to light is outside, in the snow.
2. Light the bundle of wood using the item provided to you, Scintilla di Raelorasz.
3. Take your hands off your keyboard and mouse, sit back, and enjoy the show. After a few minutes of NPC dialog and a scene where you ride a dragon, you should complete the quest. You do not have to do ANYTHING.
4. Turn in the quest at Transitus Shield.*

Finally Raelorasz asks the player to lay to rest the corrupted aspect of the Prigioniero di guerra, Keristrasza, which shows her as insane probably due to being forced to become Malygos's new consort. Could also explain Cuore Infranto di Keristrasza
*Player note: Players will have to defeat all of the bosses in the Nexus in order to be able to finally release Keristrasza's corrupted aspect. Each boss is connected to one of the three click-able spheres to release her (Gran Magus Telestra=Sfera di Contenimento di Telestra / Anomalus=Sfera di Contenimento di Anomalus / Ormorok il Pastore di Alberi=Sfera di Contenimento di Ormorok). Proven exception is the Comandante dell'Orda and Comandante dell'Alleanza, which are trash bosses that can be skipped, though Heroic replacements Comandante Barbaforte and Comandante Kolurg have blue gear loot.*

I had "Bait and Switch" quest in my quest log already when i deleted the item from my bag. In that case the only way is to, first abandon the quest, an than go to Raelorasz and ask him for Augmented Arcane Prison.

This item have a very annoying cooldown when you're trying this at 80 and beyond.

Oh Keristrasza...

After completing La cella and using Prigione Arcana Aumentata to spawn her, you get the quest L'esca perfetta.
If you complete this quest fast enough, you might get to see Keristrasza despawn in front of you and you have to summon her again.

This time you no longer have Prigione Arcana Aumentata in your bags and will have to talk to Raelorasz for a new one.
Use it, turn in L'esca perfetta and accept La fine di Saragosa. Then talk to Keristrasza again to start the quest event.
Should you need to summon Keristrasza again, you can do so at any time as Prigione Arcana Aumentata will remain in your bags until you turn in the following quest Radunare i Draghi Rossi. From this point there no further needs to summon her.
