This key will remain in your inventory after completing the quest. It is safe to delete it, as you won't need the key for anything else.

If you've destroyed the key, you can ghost through the gate after dying. So take off your gear and get to mining.

Today i changed the race of my toon and noticed a hole in my Keyring.
Cause they had a specific order, i found out this one was the missing key.
Anyone else noticed disapearing Deathforge Keys after race-change?

It's not a huge issue since this is a one use quest item that you can throw away. I'm not sure why it remains in your inventory.

That is one of the key which will be send to you by mail when you log in after release of Patch 4.2 for first time. Due to the removal of personal Keyring you need an inventory slot if you want to keep this key for whatever reason.

I also recieved Veil Skith keys, Keys to the Refurbished Shredder, Deathforge key, and Gatekeeper's key in my inventory.

I went there to check personally whether by any chance you no longer need the key to open the door after completing the quest. The key is still needed if you want to open that door and there is indeed a khorium vein inside.

As a dwarf, I was able to squeeze in through the left side of the portcullis. I do not have a key, but you can indeed enter without one.

It seems smaller races have the advantage here. I have attempted to enter using the method above with a Night Elf but was not able to advance.

The khorium is not always there. The last three visits there I found rich adamantite instead. In addition to the other methods of entry already mentioned, an engineer's volatile seaforium blastpack should do it. You can still get the key through the questline previously mentioned.
