Five minute cooldown, making it barely any better from the green trinket available at the zeppelin crash site quest series in HFP. Definately not worth the trinket slot.

The threat reduction value is -1075 in an AOE, so, in other words, less than a single fireball from a mage. There are better trinkets to fill your slots with, now that all DPS classes have a threat reduction ability.

Not entirley true.. these are great to keep on hand in case your group is not quite up to scratch. I know I have found mine very useful. Sometimes groups have aggro problems, and this gives me a second option to use when fade is still on cooldown. I sure miss the stats from my other trinkets... but stats don't mean much when your dead.

Well compared to all other Trinkets this one has the highest -threat modifier available. Even Timelaps Shard - The Keepers of Time Exalted Epic Quality Reward, has less threat reduction than this one. I got it on my first ever Vorpil kill and it dropped like 8/9 times I've killed him since then. Being a mage I never use it but its kept in my bags since you'll never know what the future may bring.

I keep this thing with me all the time. It has massive threat reduction for a trinket. I switch it out if AoE may be needed or a group just isn't too good. Soulshatter is only once every 5 minutes and locks don't have many ways to drop aggro without dying.

I'm a full-heal specced shaman and I love this trinket. I don't really believe it's only about 1000 in threat reduction. I've had times where I was pounding out 3 big heals, got aggro from almost untanked mobs, and still this trinket seemed to wipe all my aggro from them.

I needed it more as a joke, but now i really think it's worth the slot.

I consider this trinket very useful in instances with may pulls composed of more than 3-4 mobs, like Shattered Halls.
In these cases (especially if you are on heroic), you'll have a hard time keeping the tank alive without pulling aggro and since threat generated by heals is divided by the number of mobs (a 6000hp heal is considered 500threat on each mob on a 6 mobs pull, for example) this kind of trinket will come in handy and save your skin plenty of times :D

As a shadow priest, fade alone does not do the job. In fights like voidreaver where keeping under the tanks is the main objective any aggro reduction possible is helpful. This is still a decent trinket for a late game raider with high threat.

Just to clear this up, Fade DOES NOT drop agro. It lowers your agro by a tiny amount, and then the threat returns in 10seconds.
Unless the tank(s) pick up to agro within that time, your screwed.

This can also be a useful trinket to have for an Enhancement Shaman on boss fights - pop it when you are looking like pulling aggro, and you don't need to let up. The loss of the trinket slot is a little painful, but as the cliche goes, dead <class>s do no damage.

Is this trinket indeed unusable for raid bosses? I raid as a ret pally (laugh if you want but I'm a bad sumbish) and - at least until 2.3 - I'm constantly threat capped. Fights like Void Reaver are especially hard for me and I was just about to start farming for this. If this doesn't work, is there an alternative? Timelapse Shard perhaps? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

This item does NOT share the same cooldown as Hypnotist's Watch. http://www.wowhead.com/?item=25786. Thus, you can use both at same time.

I just responded to a post on the wowhead forums where somebody asked what the best tanking pet was. I posted the following relaying my turtle experiences. You may find this interesting.

I don't know the definitive answer to this question but i'd like to relay my turtle experiences here.

With maxed natural armor, and my toon wearing mostly mail, my turtle has 14143 armor at 70 which amounts to 57.26% dmg reduction. On top of this he has shell shield which reduces dmg taken by 50%. It has a 3 min. cooldown unfortunately. It should come as no surprise then that there is no pet that can take more of a beating than a turtle. This has been stated previously.

The problem is that unlike owls and gorillas they have no aoe attacks and have trouble holding agro of large mobs.

The only way however to get the best of both worlds is to use the turtle. There's nothing you can do to allow gorillas and owls to take more of a beating, but there are a number of ways to make your turtle better at controlling agro.

These include:
Intimidation (BM)
rotating growl around to different targets
Misdirection once you get it

Also if you are alone fighting mobs with your turtle and you pull agro, there are some things you can do to reduce your agro.
These include:
feign death
Trinkets like The hypnotist's watch, The jewel of charismatic mystique, and the Timelapse shard which cast basically cower and reduce your agro.
There's a cloak enchant that reduces your agro from all attacks by 2%

You're probably thinking why would I want to use these trinkets and give up my bloodlust brooch.

These trinkets are used for killing large mobs quickly and that's it.
If you're trying to farm obsidian war beads or motes of water in nagrand for example, it's faster to use volley and the super explodey trap on large mobs rather than killing things one at a time, since their damage scales linearly with the number of enemies they're hitting. (double the number of enemies = double the damage etc.) There's a very real benefit to using these but hunter's generally don't because because they pull agro off their pet, which before 2.3 was an even bigger problem because of the dead zone. When this happens you use the trinkets. In a way it's like having three feign deaths instead of one.

On a slightly different note, there are enemies that hit too hard for you to solo even with a turtle. That's where cower comes in. To my knowledge this is the only situation where cower would be useful.
Instead of sending in your pet and praying he lives you can send in your pet and before he's going to die, you pull the agro off of him and kite while you heal your pet and it continues to do dmg, then you have the pet pick him up again. and repeat. To get agro from your pet you can use distracting shot to help and your pet can use cower. Also turn growl off and on at the appropriate times.

My turtle's name is pizzaface. and just for laughs in shatt i frequently turn on bestial wrath and shell shield, big red sparkling turtle. hilarious.

I'm just gonna lob this out there...

For classes like druids, shaman (especially elemental/resto who have innate threat issues), DPS warriors (especially those jerkwad arms warriors who decide they like PvE), this trinket is a MUST to have in your bag just to carry it about for those times you find yourself having threat issues. You shouldn't be wearing it all the time in instances, as you won't always need it, but if you're willing to give up a little bit in the way of stats for staying alive, tanks and healers will love you for wearing this thing when needed.

As a holy priest, this trinket is highly valuable in certain less-than-stellar pug instance runs. Whenever you have a tank that can't hold aggro, just throw this in and you have something to save you rear between Fade cooldowns.

I noticed the range on this item now reads 0 yards. I have not tested it out, but I can only assume this trinket no longer works at all.

Why aren't there any more of this kind of items or trinkets. They were much more interesting than +x Strength +x Crit.
