For those that dont know, this pet is only obtainable from having a high fishing skill and a lucky pole. =) You get a Mr. Pinchy who has 3 "wishes" on a 2 day cooldown. This is one of the possible wishes.

Mr. Pinchy is only fished out of Highland Mixed Schools. There are a total of 17 Highland mixed schools in the three Fly-to only lakes in Terrokar Forest. 3 in Lake Jorune above Stonebreaker point, 4 that spawn in lake Ere'Noru, just above and behind Allerian Stronghold, and 10 in Blackwind Lake/Skettis area. Mr. Pinchy's drop rate appears to be about a 0.2% drop rate on successful casts (about 2 out of 1000 or 1 in 500 casts) so be prepared to spend alot of time on this.

Had 527 Fishing when i caught him each of the 5 times, counting my lure...The game maximum:
375 Base Fishing, +35 Fishing Arcanite Fishing Pole, +5 Fishing High Test Eternium Fishing Line, +5 Fishing Lucky Fishing Hat, +5 Fishing Nat Pagle's Extreme Angling Boots, and +2 Fishing skill to glove enchant. and +100 Fishing Aquadynamic Fish Attractor.
You will no longer receive "your fish got away" messages at 525 fishing or higher (only attainable with all fishing tournament rare fish rewards and the Arcanite Fishing Pole won from the sunday Fishing Tournament.)

Got the Magical Crawdad Box off of the first wish on the 5th Mr. Pinchy that I caught.

This guy has got to be hands down, the hardest small pet to obtain. First you have to level up fishing to 375, (a chore in it's self) then you need to win the fishing tournament and get the 3 rares from it as well. Then you will have the skill to attempt to catch Mr. Pinchy. As if the 2% "drop rate" wasn't bad enough, when/if you finally get Mr. Pinchy you have 3 tries to get the Magical Crawdad Box, and you get to wait up to almost a week to find out if any of those 3 charges have him. Good thing Mr. Pinchy isn't unique, but even still.

I am not sure if I am willing to test my sanity on this guy

I didn't have 375 Fishing when I caught him, I had about 364.
The actual required skill to catch him is 450 and up, so a fishing skill of 350 and the +100 lure would suffice, only difference with a higher skill is u get less "fish got away" messages.

But now with the upcoming patch and the nerf/buff to fishing it will be even easier to skill to 375 and to catch him. :)

And for those that didn't know;
Engineers can make the +100 Lure (Aquadynamic Fish Attractor) so you don't have to go around buying up all the limited ones from vendors. :)

My wife got Mr.Pinchy on about her third day of fishing in Terokkar, with a total of about three to four hours of fishing. In either a stroke of extremely good luck, or bad luck depending on how you look at it, she got Magical Crawdad Box twice in a row on her first and second wishes.

Her fishing was at 375, a +25 fishing pole, and +100 lure.

You don't have to have any of the fishing rares (hat, boots, line) or the fishing pole reward from the fishing competition to get this pet. They are only neccesary if you want to avoid the "Your fish got away" message. They don't improve your odds of getting the Pet.

Also, the drop rate for Mr. Pinchy is 0.2% or 1 in 500, not 2%.

Mathematical probability (using the Law of Large Numbers):

Since there are 5 possible outcomes, the probability of getting the Magical Crawdad Pet is most likely 1 in 5, or 20%.

With three "charges" per Mr. Pinchy, the probability of getting the Magical Crawdad Pet with each individual Mr. Pinchy is 48.8%.

Getting 2 Mr. Pinchys gives you a 73.8% chance to get the Crawdad Pet.
Getting 3 Mr. Pinchys gives you a 86.6% chance to get the Crawdad Pet.
Getting 4 Mr. Pinchys gives you a 93.1% chance to get the Crawdad Pet.
Getting 5 Mr. Pinchys gives you a 96.5% chance to get the Crawdad Pet.

Keep in mind that this is just statistical analysis of the probability of the event occuring before you start trying to get him. The Gambler's Fallacy says that no matter how many charges you've used unsuccesfully, each charge still hold exactly a 20% chance of yielding the pet. If you haven't gotten the Magical Crawdad Pet by your 5th Mr. Pinchy, then you'd best stop trying or you just might go crazy.

Like most loot its random, I have 375 Fishing, the +20 skill quest pole from outland and a +100 lure and ive fished this up three times now, on the first charge of the third one ive looted ive finally got my crawdad pet.

It's a matter of sheer luck, i fished for 20 minutes, caught him on the 7th catch and gave me the non combat pet on the first wish, best of luck to all you pet collectors.

Just got him off Mr. Pinchey. I only have 351 fishing ATM and used a Strong Fishing Pole (+5) and +100 lure. I fished nearly exclusevily off the mixed highland school from 335-551, it was slow but I had nothing better to do.

This whole time I thought Mr. Pinchey was found in a box you get off them and he was looted from the box, but he was cought just like a fish, with the "binds when you loot" warning. I made my first wish and "Poof" there was the Crawdad!!! WoooT

Few fun info: No sound effect if you spam click it, you can hear the leg tapping while walking by you side (try on wooden floor e.g on boat), swims like a fish in water and taps weird sounds on water banks :P

I can't believe my luck, After fishing for Mr. Pinchy for about an hour I caught him and got the pet as my 1st wish. Then in the fishing tournament later that day I caught all three rare fish within half an hour. If only the item drops in dungeons were that nice to me... running BM 80-90 times for the hourglass of the unraveller was ridiculous

Once I got fishing up to 375 I started fishing the pools for Mr. Pinchy. I got him within about 60 catches, couldn't believe my luck.

Got the Magical Crawdad Box on my first wish! Then when my second wish was up I got another one!

Don't know wether pet drops have been increased prior to the upcoming pre WOTLK patch but I got a baby croc from the fishing q then shortly after I looted 2 Mr Pinchys in 5 mins at skettis. I have previously recieved 2 Mr Pinchys in my life (also missed 2 through spamming right click, a habit I used to have) but never had a Magical crawdad.
However, after transfering my main to the PTR (around the time of a PTR server restart) I found myself in a unique possition, 2 Mr Pinchys on 2 parallel realms, how would the results compare?
At point of transfer I had used 1 charge on one of the Mr Pinchys, so I even knew which loot was which. 11 Pinchy openings lol.

I didn't know this existed until 3 days ago. I was checking where to fish for lightning eel and came across a page dedicated to Mr. Pinchy. Well, I couldn't pass up the chance at a new pet (didn't read the part where it's next to impossible to get) so I flew to the lake above Allerion Stronghold.

First school, a couple of furious crawdad, 2nd school...BAM...Mr. Pinchy. I linked him in guild chat to show it off. Then I made my first wish...BAM..."Mr. Pinchy's Magical Crawdad Box" achievement flashes on the screen. I'm excited, the guild's excited..it's a good day.

Now everytime I stroll through town, I've got the Magical Crawdad in tow; by far the best pet in my collection.

I been fishing for Mr. Pinchy for quite a while with ZERO luck. One day flying to skettis to attempt yet again for this lil guy low and behold on my second cast in one of the lakes bellow Skettis....MR. PINCHY....now ok I know the deal with the odds of getting the pet so i didnt get to excited. Clicked to get my wish and BAM! Got him.. now i got a new fishing buddy. Dont give up. It may even very possible they raised the drop % because of the acheivments.

I don't know if the drop rate on the pet has changed since the achievement was added, as I haven't been fishing that long, but I caught Mr. Pinchy today. Skill was 493 total. I'm really glad I installed an autoloot mod as I recast immediately and closed the loot window, which cost me a rare during the fishing contest sunday.

Anyway, got the pet on the first wish. 11/12/2008

I managed to get two of Mr. Pinchy at the lake above Allerian Stronghold. I lost the first one through my own fault, I moved before I looted!

My skill was 434. I was getting "your fish got away!" about 75% of the time. That was with a base skill of 311, plus Seth's Pole (+20) a true silver line (+3) and a sharpened fishing hook (+100).

It was more frustrating than anything, but don't give up. He is out there...

Mine's called Magic.. :D

Nor will I use the last two wishes on my current Mr. Pinchy. He is now my new "good luck charm"

Since this pet is, to my knowledge, the only pet created by another item's use, it is the only non-Engineering pet to have the <Made by Name> marker underneath when it appears in your bag.

This by far was the worst pet to farm for me. first you need high lvl of fishing even with lures they still get away and your forced to get enchants better rods and so on. second it only fished from pools which are usally fished by other players and even if not you still have sit 30min sometimes waiting for a pools. you have fly all over and ther stuff trying kill you. And finally even if you do get mr f*ing pinchy he doesnt always give pet. I had to get 4 pinchys. It's about a 1 pinchy for every 100crawdads you catch if that helps.

I had been fishing for this off and on because I figured that my luck would just hit one day.. Spent maybe two hours the first time and no Mr. Pinchy. Second time I was there maybe 10 min's and got Mr. Pinchy... Magical Crawdad Box was got from the very first wish of the first Mr. Pinchy I got... Can not tell you how relieved I am that I will not have to spend hours upon hours fishing for this guy.

I spent 1 hour fishing in the 3 lakes (using 6 Sharpened Hooks), my skill was above 375 but less than 450 (hit 450 fishing for coins in Dalaran) & I have the Big Iron Fishing Pole.

I got Mr. Pinchy on my 2nd cast & after 1 hour I had 3 Mr. Pinchy.

I got the pet on the 1st wish on the 2nd Mr.Pinchy.

He is now my main choice pet & follows me wherever I go.

As a level 80 with maxed skill in fishing (450) you only need bright baubles to avoid getaways which makes this alot more easy than it used to be. Apparently they have also buffed the droprate on Mr. Pinchy and/or the chance of getting a pet. I fished around 30 schools before I got Mr. Pinchy and I got the pet on my first wish!

Overall a nice pet. Pretty good size, plus he's red so he stands out in the enviroment. His swiming animation makes him look like a lobster, and his idle animations are pretty neat. Only thing is he moves his legs so fast when following the player it kinda looks like hes flipping out.

No doubt this will get downranked, but I wanted to say that I got my Magical Crawdad last night. Twenty-five casts total in 3 separate Highland Mixed Schools in Blackwind Lake, Skettis, Terokkar Forest and I got Mr. Pinchy.

Got the pet on the first charge. :D

So sometimes, low drop rates don't mean you'll be farming for hours! Have hope! It's a lovely little pet.

I did notice that the Happy Pet Snack usually makes a nice big heart over a pet's head, but on Magical Crawdad, it was really small. Don't know if it was a bug or has something to do with the pet's size, or what.

I've fished out at least 30 pools, currently carrying 106 crawdads(that aren't mr. pinchy) as well as 31 golden darters, not including many other items I've gotten.
So far, I have not seen proof that the drop rate has increased - I've fished out 126 pools all together, if not more, since I got to level 70 in BC.
Maybe I'm just unlucky. Incredibly. unlucky. I've been a pet collector since even before achievements, so this is just further proof that I'm unable to fish up a single pet I want. Or farm it. Good thing I've got spare gold! Well g'luck to anyone trying to get this fellow.

I've tried at this many times on my former main. Lately i've been fishing with my new char for about 4-5 hours a week (when i find pools) for the last three weeks. Still no crawdad. I guess they haven't upped the droprate that much :)

I just caught Mr. Pinchy with 274 base skill + Bright Baubles (+75) + Nat's Lucky Fishing Pole (+20) + Enchant Gloves: Fishing (+2) for a total of 376 fishing skill.

I caught him in Lake Ere'Noru, (58,60).

I also fished up Mr Pincy in Lake Ere'Noru from the Highland mixed school. I was fishing for my weather beaten journal with a fishing skill of around 235 + bright baubles. Mostly junk catches but I caught 3 furious crawdads in a row and then I caught Mr Pincy.

Fished another school and got a curious crate with my weather beaten journal.

3rd use gave me the pet.

I caught this little bugger from the area above Stonebreaker Hold. It took me about 45 minutes, hopping between the three lakes. When I got Mr. Pinchy , i took the first wish right away and there he was. I had 445 fishing with the hat, the hat's lure, and a +20 fishing pole. Very cool pet to show off. it has a nice swim animation and makes little clicking sounds when you target him.

After farming 4 days for a total of 25-30 hours I received mr.pinchy and luckily got the pet on the first wish. So anyone who says the droprate has been increased is incorrect. I had about 500-600 casts so the 0.2% is about right as far as the mr.pinchy is concerned. Not sure on the drop rate of getting the pet from a wish as I got mine on first wish. Just lucky there I guess...

I sent my first cast at 10:12am (server time) and caught:
- Tattered Cloth
- 2 Inscribed scroll cases
- 9 Furious crawdads
and at 10:19am I caught Mr. Pinchy! I right clicked on the little guy and I got the pet!

Today is the first time I've ever tried to get this pet. I looted Mr. Pinchy from my second Highland Mixed Pool, then, to my delight, was granted the Magical Crawdad Box on my first wish from him. Can anyone confirm if the drop rate has been increased? After reading a couple other recent responses, it would seem likely.

Got this from a Highland Mixed School (Terokkar Forest) on my first cast when I was trying to get a Enormous Barbed Gill Trout for The Outland Gourmet achievement. Didn't get the trout till one hour later thou from a school in Zangamarsh.

I got Mr. Pinchy with a skill of 375 +20 fishing pole, no lure, no +fishing gear. So 395 skill can catch it. I got it on my second Highland Mixed School, cast #10. It was the first time I had fished those schools. Perhaps luck or a raised drop rate.

I fished up Mr. Pinchy with fishing skill 190 (no bait or other gear, except the +20 from the fishing rod.)

First click got me the pet, so this was my lucky day, and it was just the 2nd day of farming Pinchy.

I got him on my third High highland Mixed school in the Blackwater Lake ontop of Skettis in Terokkar Forest.
I have 393 in fishing skill and I had a lure to increase my skill by +75.
My fishing pole also increased my skill by +20.
I got the pet on my first wish. But even if you don't you have 3 wishes. So if you fish up the box its most likely that you will get achiev.

Hai i got this really rare Mr. Pinchy just the other day and got Magical Crawdad in my first wish. So i was really lucky that day and got Sea Turtle 2 day´s before that. But this is really rare you might need to get Mr. Pinchy 2 or 3 times to get him but its a really cool pet so good luck

Unbelievable night of fishing for me. I hadn't done the fishing daily in Stormwind for months, so I decided to give it a go. The quest was rock lobster, and when I opened my bag of shiny things, there was the strand crawler pet! Next, I went to the lake outside of Shattrath City to do the daily, and while I was there I figured I would try my hand at fishing the highland lakes for Mr. Pinchy. I started going around the lake in Skettis, and pulled up a bunch of furious crawdads. Then a couple other players started fishing there, so I went to the smaller lakes to the north. After flying between all three lakes for a while, I was fishing at the small one just above the Allerian Stronghold when I caught Mr. Pinchy! Keep in mind that I had never tried for him before, and my fishing skill is only in the low 300s. However, I was using the Kalu'ak fishing pole. I ended up getting the magical crawdad box on the first wish! With that kind of luck, I probably should have tried for the mount in Sethekk Halls before logging off :)

Well, I've been fishing the lakes in Terrokar for 5 hours now and my eyes are starting to bleed. I have about 21 stacks of Furious Crawdads/Golden Darters in my bags and Mr. Pinchy still refuses to bite. The worst part is that this is the same thing that has happened to me every time I have tried to fish IRL.

I got Mr Pinchy after about 70 or so casts. I used the Sharpened Fishing Hook buff as well as the Kalu'ak Mastercraft Fishing Pole. I fished exclusively at the lake by Skettis & only went down to the one near Allerian Stronghold to have more spawn there. I got Magical Crawdad on the first wish, I am feeling super lucky :D too bad I already did my usual mount runs for the day...

I was able to land this little guy fishing lake Ere'naru...This lake is located just south of the Allerian stronghold in Terrokkar Forest..There are plenty of highland mixed nodes here and no hostiles...After my 3rd. node i caught Mr. Pinchy..I was pumped, only to get the magical crawdad on my very first wish...He is a cool pet and gets you closer to the "Salty" status we fishermen all covet..He is out there so happy fishing all...

I just got this one after fishing 5 times in the schools of Highland Mixed School, Got Mr Pinchy.
I used a wish and there the companion was!
I had fishing skill 322 + 110. No need for a really high skill for this one.

So get this. In MoP, you can rename pets. If you want to name this guy Mr. Pinchy in honor of the beloved large crustacean you caught whilst fishing, you cannot as the period is a mark you cannot use. If you think "Okay, well I'll just edit the period out and have it be Mr Pinchy, what's wrong with that?" It says you can't because it has "mature language"...
...Wha?

Edit: It seemed to be okay with "Lil Pinchy" (Apostrophes are another mark you can't use). Apparently Mr is a bad word?

Although I only farmed twice, the amount of casts were beyond, I think, the 1k mark. The comments I have read about this rare little critter differ from what I have seen "so far"... ( "so far". meaning the jury is still out as to how it "fairs" against various pets. ) as it stands for now against critters and aquatics: bandicoon, turtles, crickets etc. in the Half Hill area.
faired well . no real "attack". self heals well...I prefer something that may have less health, but , better power and or speed. I don't need pet battles that last forever...

ps: I have also read there is a 2 day and someone said 4 day cool down... from what I see?, it's a 4 HOUR cool down between wishes.... ok , more to come as I battle this lil thing. any changes or notes I will post later... good luck farming this baby and enjoy it once you have..... Took me about 2,000 casts to catch this beauty, (by casts I mean those that actually made it in the pool, as well as those that actually caught something). If you wanted to count every single cast, including those that missed the pool, I would say about 10,000 casts. And I read the comment "Your fish got away" about 2,000 times. For all of those looking to give up, just remember, "it's always darkness before the dawn". Meaning the moment you feel at your absolute worst that you think you'll never catch it...it will come.

I finally caught Mr. Pinchy after 100+ casts (the nodes respawn quite fast) and the first wish granted me the pet. However... my inventory was full. I ran to the first mailbox on a haunch and there it was: a letter containing Lil' Pinchy and explaining me that Mr. Pinchy does not like his gifts getting refused. So he's going to exact terrible revenge on me when I least expect it. Damn it, how will I be able to sleep now?

As of 5.4:

I caught Scatola dell'Astice Magico after 627 successful casts/catches (approx 0.16% drop rate in my case). Can't confirm if using a lure increases odds--I do not believe it does.

My fishing skill when I caught the item was 630 w/ Dragon Fishing Pole equipped.

Opening Scatola dell'Astice Magico gives Ser Chelotto which 4 hour CD. Can be used a total of 3 times before it will disappear from your bags.

Note: If you are trying to catch Magical Crawdad. Using Ser Chelotto may grant player 1 of 5 possible items, spells, etc. Since the item can be used 3 times, and only 3 times, it is possible to get 3 Magical Crawdads as well as none.

I don't know if I was just extremely lucky, but I just got Mr. Pinchy after just 14 casts in Lake Ere'Noru. First wish gave me a Magical Crawdad.

Can you only have one of these little fellows ?
Its one of my favourites, due to how tough he is and good for getting out of tight situations, what with its healing abilities. As I recall you needed to have over 300 fishing via the way of:

Fishing pole
Lure
Gear

way back when, when I caught him, I had the Kaluak fishing pole which you can get, when exalted with the faction, along with some good lures, to which I have forgot what I used at the time.

I manage to fish three up in a sort period of time, but I am talking about three years ago now, before the whole companion thing took of, and now that you can fight with them etc/do pet battles

I ventured across to its spawning locations recently, though now I am using the fishing pole you get when exalted with Nat paggle in Lunar fall along with the `worm supreme` lure which is easily obtainable when fishing in Draenor and cave dwellers drop them too. (which can be found when fishing at your garrison, need to have a level 3 fishing shack though)

Any way moving on, I have not been able to obtain magical crawdad, and I am pondering on what are the best tactics to use, in regards to gear lures and fishing poles. I am maxed out in regards to fishing level and exalted with nat, the anglers etc.

This month (may 2015) I've fished up Mr.Pinchy two times on the Aggrammar server.
It's the fifth time in total I fish it up and I've gotten the pet 3 times. I'm incredibly lucky
and I never do anything special. Today I just learned fishing on a lvl 60 DK and on
the first drag I fished it up.

I've been casually fishing for Mr. Pinchy over the last few months, and I mean really, casually. I only ever stayed for about 10-20 mins at a time, I think one time I stayed as long as 40 minutes, but fishing tends to put me to sleep, so I don't do it as often as I used to, but I wanted the pet, so whenever I was in the area, I'd give it a few minutes of my time.

That said, I got it today 4/11/16 with 492 Fishing, on Misha server, in the waters around Skettis.

I got Mr. Pinchy after fishing up 187 Furious Crawdad (170+ seems to be the noted average minimum before this actually shows up on your hook.

To keep track of how many times you have fished the Furious Crawdads, I prefer this very useful Addon from Curse, which can be used to track the number of attempts made for various pets/mounts/items as well as alerting you in game when seasonal items you don't already have, become available.

I fished the mixed pools for about 15 minutes and Mr. Pinchy dropped. The Crawdad was on his third charge. So I guess you might just fish up Pinchy and pop the first charge. Wait four hours and pop the next charge etc.

I think they've definitely increased the drop rate. I got him on my first cast in my second school of Banco di Pesci delle Alture in Lake Ere'Noru, and I got a Scatola dell'Astice Magico on the first use.

Either that or I was insanely lucky for once!

Ser Chelotto will randomly give you one of the following with each of his three wishes:

You can have up to three Magical Crawdads in your Pet Journal at the same time, and you can cage it so it may appear on the AH.

This is one of my favorites. It's the ultimate healing pet. "Renewing Mist" makes it heal 112 hp every round, and with a cooldown of 5 rounds you get a heal of 943 hp with the spell "Wish". While using "Snap" or "Surge" in between.

Basically, you can grind down a huge variety of enemy pets with only this one. It's nice to have as back up, especially when leveling other pets or when trying to catch new ones since it seldom overkill its opponent.

You have a chance to recieve the pet from a special item called "Mr. Pinchy" which you get from fishing in Highland Mixed Pools located in Terokkar Forest in and around these coordinates:

/way #108 60.3 59.2 Mr. Pinchy
/way #108 66.4 80.0 Mr. Pinchy
