There is quite an involved chain required to get this recipe. It is part of the chain required to open the gates to Ahn'Qiraj, but it is still possible to complete even after the gates have been opened. It begins in Silithus with Baristolth in Cenarion Hold.

Part 1 - Getting Neutral with Brood of Nozdormu
1) What Tomorrow Brings - talk to Anachronos in Tanaris
2) Only One May Rise - kill Broodlord Lashlayer, 3rd boss in BWL. The head can now be looted by everyone present.
3) The Path of the Righteous - collect Silithis Carapaces. Repeatable until Neutral.

Part 2 - A Bit of History
1) Anachronos - talk to Anachronos
2) Long Forgotten Memories - go to Silithus, find a crystal
3) A Pawn on the Eternal Board - watch event, return to Anachronos
4) The Charge of the Dragonflights - opens three quest chains. We want the Blue Shard chain.

Part 3 - The Blue Shard
1) Azuregos's Magical Ledger - begins in Azshara with Azuregos (or Spirit of Azuregos, if Azuregos is dead)
2) Translating the Ledger - talk to Narain Soothfancy in Tanaris. Opens 3 more quest chains. The one we want is:

Part 4 - The 500 pound Chicken
1) Never Ask Me About My Business - talk to Dirge Quikcleave in Gadgetzan
2) The Isle of Dread! - go to the Isle of Dread in Feralas, kill (lots of) stuff
3) Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops - bring dirge some rocket fuel and deeprock salt (yum!)

Finally, you are rewarded with Recipe: Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops!

Post-4.0 update: Sadly, this excellent quest chain was removed with Cataclysm. This is still the only Epic-quality cooking recipe in the game. The only way to get this recipe now is by acquiring it from someone else who had already completed the chain; as the limited supply has dwindled, the auction house prices have risen quite high! If you are a collector, this will soon be almost impossible to acquire - you can always replace the gold you need to buy the recipe (if you can find it), but no one can farm more of these recipes.

Even more sadly, the Isle of Dread has sunk (as it's only purpose was as part of the Scepter of the Sands quest chain), and it is no longer possible to obtain the Chimaerok Tenderloins needed to cook these delicious chops (as they only dropped from mobs on the Isle of Dread). Count yourself lucky if you've had the chance to sample some!

The 2 hardest things about getting this are:

1) Getting to BroodLord in BWL - we did the first boss with 5, second boss with 7, and one-shotted the Broodlord. The first boss is tricky and requires one player to MC the boss with an orb.

2)Grinding Brood rep: I did the Silithus Carapace fragment quest in 35 mintues. That requires collecting 200 of them for only 500 rep. The easiest way to grind rep is to grab a bunch of freinds and clear AQ40 a few times.

For whats its worth. I saw the cooking recipe book on Winterhoof for "only" 15k.

Just picked this up today after months of following the quest chain. The Brood of Nozdormu rep was definitely the trickiest part. Took about 3 AQ40 runs to get to Neutral.

You don't have to do this step in Cat. or at least on the beta. You have to do it, but the gobin guy sells the recipe for 12s50c along with some other crap. So it looks like anyone can buy it from vendor in cat. Not sure if that's the way it will stay or not.

Is the quest "Only one may rise" is given when you get the head off Brood lord or did they get rid of the quest line for the chops because I can't get it from the guy in silithis even with neutral rep with Brood Noz and doing quest up to the " Only one may rise"

This comment section is rampant with pre-Cataclysm speculation regarding the final disposition of this recipe after the breaking of the world (patch 4.0.3). So here it is kids, just the facts:

• This item is no longer available within the game.
• The quest line to obtain it has been removed along with most of the creatures/items/landforms/npc’s needed to complete it.
• If you had the quest line in your quest log it was removed with Cataclysm.
• The npc that rewarded it IS still in game but does not sell it or reward it.
• You CAN still learn this BoE recipe if bought/traded/stolen from another player that still has one in his inventory/bank from completing the above mentioned quest chain before the Cataclysm expansion.
• As of patch 4.0.6 it is still the one and only EPIC cooking recipe in the game.
• Who is to say Bliz won’t put it back in at some point in the future but given their position with the last 3 expansions its highly unlikely (think old Naxxramas 40 profession recipes.)
• That makes it THE rarest BoE recipe out there. Once the sparse few still in player inventories are learned…it’s gone. for good.

Just picked it up off the AH for 17k on the Windrunner server. 17k is fairly easy to grind these days...the recipe however, is no longer obtainable via the quest-line. Neat item to have.

the purple text ad association with the AQ 40 quest alone don't give it any sort of vanity status, vanity is something other players must be able to see. e idea of trying to sell off such an item as a vanity item is absurd at best, it has no "show-off" value whatsoever.

What do you mean others can't see it? The absurdity is thinking this isn't a vanity item. In the profession/recipe collecting world the ability to say you have every recipe available and then link it to prove it is everything. When two recipe collectors are comparing e-peen to e-peen the one with this is going to be bigger. Yeah, to those who know, this has metric tons of show-off value ;)

Nope, Chimaeroks are indeed gone forever from the face of Azeroth. They were taken away along with the Isle of Dread itself because the island's (and the mobs') only purpose was to be part of the Scepter of Shifting Sands quest chain. The entire quest chain was removed so everything in the game whose sole purpose was to be part of that chain is now gone.

Even if it isn't a big deal, I honestly think it's a bit hypocritical for the developers to remove this from the game.

Why? Compare it to the raptor-pet from Zul'Gurub. When it was announced that ZG would be removed in Cataclysm, many players realized that this would also mean the removal of the raptor-pet, and thus tried to get their hands on as many of the pets as possible.
Later on, it was announced that the pet would still drop from a different mob. While this resulted in an unfair money-loss for those who've stocked them (the developers should obviously have thought of this at the earlier announcement), I can perfectly understand why they wouldn't want a BoE item to be sold on the AH for enormous amounts of gold after Cataclysm. The same logic should apply for this item, especially since there was no announcement.

I read somewhere that this will be buy able after the shattering or Cata is released. Has anyone verified that yet?

Verified: You cannot buy it from a vendor nor receive it from a quest as of 4.2.0.

The only method of obtaining it is from a player who has not used the recipe yet. On my server (Terokkar US-PvE) there is only one remaining recipe on Horde side that I know of. Someone could have one on a bank alt somewhere, but who knows. I say this because I've spent a lot of time asking around in Trade chat to see if anyone has one. My friend has what we both believe to be the only one remaining on Horde side. There may be some on Alliance side, since they outnumber us by almost 3:1.

/sigh. Someone is trying to sell this for 65000g. Despite not being obtainable anymore, trust me it isn't worth that much. Maybe 1 out of every several thousand players would be willing to waste that much gold on a recipe they will never use.

Value for digital items with no frame of reference for value is simply determined by how much someone is willing to pay. I've seen it go for 100k twice on my server (Terokkar). When you say it isn't worth that much, you're saying it isn't worth that much to YOU. You cannot speak for all people. Collectors will pay any amount of gold they are required for this.

I agree. There are only four raids in Vanilla now, down from seven. Blizzard keeps recycling content which is nice and all for new people, but for the veterans of the game, it's sad to see that world slowly crumbling away until it will only be a memory.

Truly no one will ever care that you obtained this recipe.

The only people who don't care about stuff like this are people who don't care about anything but the most recent content. Wrath/Cata babies, scrubs, etc. Generally people who don't understand or know about the history of the game or how wonderful it was. I have this recipe on my shaman but my other high level characters were too new to get it before the quest line was removed.

If I am to make an opinion on two players and one has a lot of old world stuff and the other joined the game within the last year and has no clue about everything before that, I would definitely think higher of the player who has more experience in the game.

I only wish completing the Shifting Sands questline rewarded the title "of the Shifting Sands". That would have truly shown their veteran status. Even at 80 that was not an easy quest line. It was, without a doubt, the most epic quest line in the game. Nothing compares to it. The game has evolved and changed in many ways and when you see someone who has been in the game a long time it's a nice reminder of what I consider a better time in the game. When I see a Scarab Lord, someone with Atiesh, or someone with Veteran of the Shifting Sands feat of strength achievement, I automatically have a certain respect for them that a Wrath baby will never experience from me.

As of right now, unless you got dirge's recipe, or manage to buy it, with the removal of the sporeling snack, you need both guild recipes to get the Iron Chef achiev.

If you were lucky/smart enough to hang on to this recipe, considering it's BoE, it will definitely sell if you don't want to learn it. I recently sold mine for 95,000 gold, (US - Mal'Ganis) quite a nice chunk of change if you are willing to give up a piece of WoW history. In a way I regret giving that kind of history up, but the next patch and even xpansion isn't too far away, so it'll be nice to have a cushion of gold for it.

This item was previously a reward from the now removed quest , which was a part of the Scepter of the Shifting Sands questline to open the gates of Ahn'Qiraj. Prerequisites to get the quest included a long faction grind (Stirpe di Nozdormu) and 40-man raids. Given how hard it was to acquire the recipe back when it was implemented, the level of difficulty (although easier) to do so before it was removed, and the questline itself now having been removed from the game, this may be considered the rarest cooking recipe in the game. It is also the only one being epic. I just want to let everyone know that this really do have a high price. I sold mine for 195,000 gold. I was going away for the weekend and didn't want it to just lay around in my bags so I put it up on Auction House for a ridiculous high amount of gold and when I got back, voila, it was sold!

My advice to everyone who still carries a copy is to not settle with an amount you're not satisfied with since there are players who are willing to buy this for an insane amount of gold.

Blizzard needs to put this recipe back in the game, especially since mats are available for it. As a matter of fact Blizzard needs to put all recipes back they removed. For every profession, collectors get a bit cranky when you screw us Blizzard. I can't speak for everyone but I prefer to pick who screws me, and i never gave Blizzard the OK, so i think that would be concidered rape. lol

I sold mine around 2 weeks ago for 200k, do NOT sell this one cheap.
Took me a few weeks to sell, but i spoke to the buyer, and he was very happy, all you need is some patience and the right completist.
Depending on your server you can probably even push your luck and ask more, but personally i think 200k is a fair price .

Posting this because i can imagine it can be hard to set a price if you just happen to find this recipe in your bank or on the AH :) hope it helps.

The longer you maintain your BoE recipe, the more hardcore collectors will eventually get their hands on what remains and learn / soulbind the recipe, and it's value will only increase with time! There's a bunch of good websites out there that maintain Auction-House rolling averages for all the US and EU servers Horde and Alliance, and you can see the price of this recipe has slowly crept up higher and higher over the months/year(s)!

Just cross your fingers they dont do something rediculous like "Well we just didnt like Cooking in Warlords of Draenor sooooo we removed it completely!"

Just picked this Badboy up

None on my realm (Grim Batol) but have become very good at playing AH, so went over to Silvermoon which is high population and they had 3 in AH.

All 3 around 142k b/o and 115k bid

Started my little level 1 off with 8k worth of pets with the intention of making enough gold to bid on one, knew it was unlikely all 3 would vanish from AH within the next 2 weeks so set about making the gold, I just hoped they wouldnt rise to 300k like they sometimes do with the Spectral Tiger, 1 day its 500k, next day its 999k lol
After 4 days of playing the AH I turned 8k into 150k and was waiting for the last auction to come through the post (it was a 50k biggie) in order for me to bid on one.
My gold came thru, went to AH

But.....

I entered the name into search and a 4th appeared:

80k Buyout :D

Sweet as, was just about to pay 115k bid so that was a result.

So yea, I turned 8k into 150k a lot quicker than expected and now have 70k left over plus the Recipe.
So now I'll maybe get another one, level him up then xfer him over to Grim Batol, keep one and sell the other :D

I remember the big debate I was having just a few years ago to either 1) Learn the recipe on my main character that has always been my main character since release days. or 2) Sell the recipe on the auction house for then 100,000 gold.

Today it is selling for over 500,000-800,000 gold just because of how rare it is. As the years have gone by, more players have either 1) Sold theirs in the years following the removal of the quest to acquire this or 2) Learned the recipe, rendering it unsellable. As a result, there are way less available recipe's out there in 2015 than there were in 2010, 2007, etc. It is extremely rare today.

I decided to learn the recipe, sure I am now one of the few left playing the game that can actually make some kickin' chops, but I am also out the speculative 700,000+ gold I could have made today if I had just held onto it a little longer.

Just won this on US-Bleeding Hollow for 612g :) Guess the seller wasn't watching his bid price when he put his 400k buyout price ;p The item was clearly marked on the Underminer deals page for the entire day, so surprised more people weren't watching it.

There's another on there for 1.5mil at the moment (crazy to think there's 2 for sale on one server!) - might play the long waiting game and wait for that to sell before putting mine at a higher price later on. With the gold cap raised to 10 mil these puppies are probably going to sell for several million soon I reckon.

I was just looking through rare recipes and saw this one and it sounded familiar. Sure enough I looked through my cooking recipes and there it was. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought I remember that it gave you a "electrified" appearance buff when you ate it. I'm gonna cook some up and find out, if I can still get the mats for it.

Also the recipe sells for 2 silver 50 copper lol. Just goes to show how much the economy has changed since this was relevant. A gold was important and the few hundred gold to buy your epic ground mount was a MAJOR effort. I really hope nobody ever vended this thing though...

This item does NOT seem to have come or be coming back in any shape or form. What others may be refering to is the description showing the questline of how it was obtained back in the day.

That said I still have it and am never giving it up. It'll be at least one recipe that dies unlearned with my account.

Just came back to the game and had no idea this was so rare now.

I was one of the farmers for our guilds chops back in vanilla. Usually you needed atleast a 3 man (tank, healer and dps) to kill the chimera but I work out some pathing which allowed me to dot kite these things to death. It took a while though. But I loved that about the game back then. With a bit of will and trickery you could do things that seemed extraordinary at the time. It's one of my founder memories. Sticking on some tunes and farming away and the amazement of my guild mates the first time I produced a bunch of chops from no where.

My reasoning for thinking this is the requirement to eat this food while under a campfire buff personally seems unreasonable if the recipe is no longer obtainable and limited to the few copies left that people have hidden away for a rainy day.
