New optional crafting reagent added today (1/4) to upgrade Rank 1 Legendaries straight to Rank 5.

Available to those that can craft Legendary base pieces after a short quest from Bolvar in ZM, but not currently appearing on the vendor it's supposed to.

One time use.

Once applied as a optional reagent will make your legendary base to have ilvl 249.
It can only be applied to rank 1 bases. So, someone who doesn't have trained legendary crafting can make 249 ilvl legendaries with this reagent.

It's not possible to make higher ilvl base legendaries with this reagent. Even if you have trained legendary crafting to rank 2 or higher.

I get an error that says I must proguress further with the runecarver when trying to make a r5 cloak with this. My mage is not done with the Korthia quest line so I am guessing that I get to go do dailies over and over again.

My jewelcrafter is 6200 into honored with the Enlightened and can craft rank 4 rings but does not have this optional reagent available from the Enlightened Quartermaster. Anyone else having this issue?

Ignoring all the wailing and gnashing of teeth that this was a bad idea. It'd be great for my alts who don't need 291 legos. So I waited all day yesterday for the "hotfix" to apply, did the Firim referral quest, and nothing. So I waited and checked all day. Nothing. Last night, I saw one and thought "yay" and figured I'd login today and do some crafting to find none. So I "Think" this might be limited buy (yeah that old chestnut) and if that's deliberate, holy crap what a TROLL even if it's not April Fools. So now I'm camping Vilo to ninja as many as I can, but maybe a Blue will post today "woops we fixed that" but won't hold my breath. Fwiw I'm 17k/21 Revered, and I've also been checking on 5 honored or revered toons also to no evail.

I really don't understand the use case for these.

I was hoping it would increase the XP earned for crafting a lvl 1 to that of a lvl 5, but no it literally just lets you craft a lvl 5 for fewer mats.

If you cannot see this item on your vendor, try shard hopping to another ZM group. Saw it on Reddit, had to hop twice, but I was finally able to find a vendor with the items on it. I guess not all the shards are updated?

can you use this piece to upgrade leggo to rank 5 then use your current rank 5 piece to get rank 7 piece so 291? or is it only a rank 1 to rank 5 upgrade?

I saw some confusion here in the comments - so just wanted to help clear up any questions.

This appears to be currently bugged for some to buy. You buy from the ZM QM, after completing the quest from Bolvar. If you complete this quest and you are honored and you still do not see it available for purchase you can try to hop around in groups in LFG or go turn war mode on & come back. (I personally just went and turned war mode on and it worked instantly.)

To answer... what is the purpose of this?

For crafters: it allows you to add this to a RANK 1 RECIPE. Therefore you are not crafting a ton of useless 190 ilvl that nobody will buy while leveling through the ranks. When this optional reagent is added, it will craft a 249 piece. Which you can in fact resell on the AH. (To be clear this will destroy the Vestige and you will have to purchase multiple.)

For others: This will be a much cheaper option since pretty much anyone will be able to craft it. This will be great for alts and offspecs you don't need to be fully decked out. Or just general legendary testing without breaking the bank.

If you are a crafter wishing to use this item and you have either,

an alt that you have recently levelled to 60 and skipped straight on through to Zerith Mortis
a character that was an up-to-date Level 60 but missed 9.1 and all the Korthia content

then, like me, you may experience the following problem:

Despite grinding through to Honoured with the Enlightened, purchasing the item and actually having it in your bags, you still cannot use it because the Optional Reagent slot in your character's crafting UI is locked with a very annoyingly vague message to 'Assist the Runecarver further'

You may then - again like me - come to this page or do some googling and read about re-doing the original Covenant campaign and / or going back to grind Korthia.

DO NOT DO THAT!

I wasted more horrible hours in Korthia than I want to count on a fresh Level 60, grinding relics and rep for the Archivists' Codex in an attempt to get to Chapter 4 of the Chains of Domination campaign.

But actually the answer is to complete Chapter Five - The Crown of Wills - in the Zerith Mortis campaign. This will unlock the Optional Reagent slot as well as getting your crafter the Tome of the Eternal. (Also, remember that you do need to be Honoured by the Enlightened before being able to use any of this stuff)

I hope this information helps prevent some other poor bastard from wasting hours of their life in a zone that was so awful that it made them unsub only a week after 9.1 came out. And, yes, I'm still salty about it all. I simply wanted to use the new item to get some quick 249 leggos for fresh alts but nooooo

In other words it makes a rank5 craftable with rank1 mats plus 4/5k of the vestige depending on your reputation which makes rank5 very profitable and MAYBE someone will buy it.
it still gives just 5 points per craft if you are leveling...
I would have totally removed rank1-2-3 and made rank4 a new base rank instead of this but well...

I have turned warmode on, off, switched to 3 different shards, 3 different groups for days. NOTHING. I cannot find it in the vendor. Did the quest, I am revered. Not sure what is going on. Anyone have any ideas? Please help.

after doing my entire cov campaign and some korthia and primus stuff, i was still unable to use this new item. however, RELOGGING FIXED IT. after a log, i was able to see this item as able to be added to legos.

Here is some additional information I discovered about this item. For those excited to craft an ilevel 249 legendary for their alts, wait until you get the surprise when your alt tries to craft into the actual legendary and find out that you still need the soul ash and soul cinders to make the item (1100 Soul Cinders and 5150 Soul Ash to be exact). Also, if your main crafter that has this item is say a leatherworker and you want to craft a 249 legendary for a cloth alt, not going to happen. So the only thing this is good for really it to level up runecarving.

Another pro tip...

If you're honored and completed chapter 5, crown of wills, and this item is still not on the vendor. Double check to see that you have Shadowlands crafting for the profession you need. I went through everything and it still didn't show up, only to realize that I hadn't leveled Shadowlands Blacksmithing on the character.
