Obtained from in Nar'shola Terrace, Shimmering Expanse at /way #205 34.7 75.0, located on the balcony of a tower on the second level of ruins (you should have a ceiling above you, but not be on the sea floor). The object is extremely hard to see as it looks similar to the background textures it's on. While visible to everyone, the object only has a tooltip and interaction for those holding Gelatina Strana and not already holding Viticcio Spirastretta.

Part of the items required to craft Esca per Aurelide which Is required to make Hirukon Emerge
The player Triggering Hirukon with Esca per Aurelide is guaranteed a Polipo Stellafonda to drop on kill.

To obtain a Esca per Aurelide you need to fish up Gelatina Strana from Hirukon's pool

Dropchance is quite abysmal, probably around 1/1500 according to my experience and the people I've talked to.

Once obtained to go Baronessa Vashj in Maldraxxus

She lets you know that she can make a lure if you bring 3 materials.

Medumelma Pungente can be fished from a school inside Coilfang Resevoir in Zangarmarsh Outland

Medusa Pinnata can be fished from a school in Nazjatar, when caught it slips away and you have to barbaricly catch it with your bare hands.

Viticcio Spirastretta
Is found in Shimmering Expanse, the subzone of the Cataclysm zone Vashj'ir. Found in the lower ruins on a balcony, and can be very hard to see.
/way 34.7 75.0

Return to Baronessa Vashj with the materials and she'll make an Esca per Aurelide

Apply the Esca per Aurelide once at Hirukon in Zereth Mortis, and you'll be able to see an Aurelid Cluster. Fish in it to trigger Hirukon to Emerge.

*IMPORTANT* - The mount will not drop if it is not your first kill of the day. Killing Hirukon when someone else triggers him, will lockout looting the mount until next reset. So if you obtain the Lure, don't use it until the next day if you've already killed Hirukon that day.

For those of you looking above the temple at 34, 75, go to the bottom layer of temples. That's where I found it.

The hardest part was being on the correct level. You have to be on the second level up from the bottom level of the temple, then start zeroing in on the coordinates. I was on the second level of where I thought the balconies started which was more like the 4th level. Basically ignore the word balcony. Once I was on the right level at the right coordinates, the vine wasn't really that hard to see - it's a clump similar to a druid root effect. But yes, green on green makes it hard to spot if you aren't right by it. Changing the video settings doesn't help like it does in other cases because the vine isn't a quest object so it isn't highlighted at all. I did the nice-guy thing and sent a message out to the zone saying if anyone was there to get the vine, group with me. Got 6 takers.

If you go to the coordinates and descend straight down to the floor with a tower in front of you, that's not it. You are actually on the third floor. Swim to the edge of the floor towards the North East and look down. Go to the second floor of the palace and to the coordinates.

Also note that you do not have to have unlocked Vash'jir to loot the item; you can fly from the Stormwind Lighthouse straight towards Vash'jir without suffering fatigue.

I have gone to the correct coordinates exactly and clicked and looked and it is not there. There is nothing to click on or gear. Is it possible there is a phasing problem with the Coilclutch vine? Is anyone else having this problem? Does it only spawn in that one place?

how do i get to vashj'ir if i never played that expansion on this character? the portal is not clickable and the npc nearby offers three quests. ugh. i'll start by trying the quest called the eye of the storm tomorrow i guess. i think thats the correct one

new update. apparently from another comment, alliance can fly straight to the spot from stormwind without picking up any breadcrumb quest. i didnt test it but feel free to try it. what i did is below and it worked.

update. what a clunky workaround but this worked. from this comment, just keep accepting quests from the heros call board, prioritizing cataclysm quest zones, and vashj'ir will show up eventually. alliance can go to the sw harbor after you get it. not sure about horde but theres a marker presumably.

If you are high level and cannot unlock the portal and cannot find the quest anywhere to start Vashj'r, go to the Hero's Call Board as indicated. If the Vashj'r quest is not one of the three listed, do not despair. Accept one of the other Cata quests, and then the Vashj'r quest should appear on the Call Board screen. If not, keep accepting other zone quests until the Vashj'r quest shows up. Accept it, then off you go!

It bears mentioning.... if you enter the coordinates shown in these comments when you land in Vash, at Skybreaker Cove, the spot shown is INCORRECT. It shows the coords by L'Ghorek (directly left when you open map) Fly To: Tranquil Wash THEN enter coordinates and it will mark map accurately. Remember, you need to go to second level of the Ruins, and then when you reach coords item can be found on the Balcony of that roundish building.

I was phased. In order for me to get this I completed the Visions of the Past quest chain. If you need help locating the quests or a guide I suggest the BtWQuests addon.

Be in the Shimmering EXPANSE and NOT the Shimmering Grotto when using the way point /way 34.7 75.0

I got very confused and hope this helps someone who like me stood around wondering where it is like John Travolta waiting in Pulp Fiction.

If you're alliance and on a character that hasn't done the Vashj'ir intro quests. You need to talk to the guy on the Stormwind docks that offers this quest. Make sure you have low level quest tracking turned on

Once you get Gelatina Strana by either fishing it up (1/1200 chance) or buying it on the auction house, the hard part is DONE.

Medumelma Pungente, Medusa Pinnata and Viticcio Spirastretta require NO RNG so don't worry, just go to their locations and you will fish/loot them up quickly.

Once you summon Hirukon using the lure Esca per Aurelide make to have graphic settings on high and make sure it's your first time looting Hirukon for the day on that character to get the mount Polipo Stellafonda

Came here to say it doesn't seem to be phased if you haven't done the main questline on your character. I just did the intro quest up to Piede marino so I didn't have to worry about drowning. This can be skipped if you're a druid or Forsaken with the racial Tocco Tombale. Alternatively, you can buy Elisir del Respiro Acquatico off of the auction house or Elisir di Granstrippo from Sprizzy Granstrippo in Gadgetzan in Tanaris and keep using them until you get Elisir di Granstrippo.

Also you must be at least lvl 60, tried to use my alt with opened location, but no joy.
You can see the object and loot it while having the Goop in your pockets, no fish from previous steps are required.

Yeah, the 34.70, 75 waypoint is great and all, but look for Nar'shola Terrace. The level is up, not down, and you can see the big villain shell fortress (Nespirah) if you turn your back to the tower. Putting a map screenshot in the group.

Getting to Vashj'ir

You don't have to open the Vashj'ir questline. The opening questline is long and interesting. Don't rush through it just to get the Vine.
Vashj'ir is shown on the Eastern Kingdoms map as a purple shape to the West.
You must have 310 flying speed
Pick your departure point carefully or you will drown as the fatigue sets in fast:
1. Stormwind Harbor lighthouse OR
2. DunMurogh Coast (11.6, 54.6)
3. Ruins of Gilneas
You'll know you're over Vash'jir when the fatigue bar resets to 100% and then disappears.
There is a flight point above water called "Sandy Beach", but it's not necessary to land there. If you do open the flight point, you can use it to return to the Eastern Kingdoms.

Finding the Viticcio Spirastretta
In the Shimmering Expanse area, descend to the lower brightly colored layer. Look for Nar'shala Terrace.
Check out the screenshots to position yourself. See the screenshot from akarisuicide for the long shot. Then see the screenshots from Tibriel and Inotal for more detail. You'll swim through the open curved colonade near the large blue sea plant. It will be on the right on a green shelf on the colonade floor. It's the only 3-D plant. Check the other screenshots for close-ups.

Everyone kept talking about the right floor and I thought they meant the levels on the tower itself.. THE ACTUAL FLOOR/GROUND has multiple levels, u need to go to the edge and swim down, its right beside the blue coral where the coordinates are

For the Horde players who have not unlocked Vash'jir yet, you can pick up the Il dovere chiama to get there and then just do the first of the questline called Piede marino. This will grant you the ability to breathe underwater, allowing you to grab your Viticcio Spirastretta easily!

Going out of your way, you can do Il dovere chiama (Horde) to get to Vashj'ir and get your Sea Legs buff, which grants water breathing and increases sea floor movement speed by 60% while in Vashj'ir. You can also get a swimming mount some quests in, though it only works in Vashj'ir. It goes faster than if you were using swimming mounts in the open world.

I keep having to come back to do this quest becauses the event resets and I have to do them over. This zone has been problematic since inception.

To get Hirukon 51.8 74.5 up You need Esca per Aurelide You can get it in 3 steps:

Step 1

- First Fish Gelatina Strana in Hirukon lake 51.8 74.5. Then Fly To NPC Baronessa Vashj 57.6 92.1 in Maldraxxus and speak with him. You can buy/sell Gelatina Strana in AH.

Step 2

Get 3 item for NPC Baronessa Vashj 57.6 92.1 in Maldraxxus:

1. Medumelma Pungente - Can be fished in Zangarmarsh 52.5 37.9 from ( to get to Zangarmarsh use portal in Stormwind to Shattrath ) . To get there You need to swim down through the pipe to Coilfang Reservoir ( is the way how you getting to RAID Caverna di Sacrespire )

2. Medusa Pinnata - Can be fished in Nazjatar 73.1 24.2 ( to get to Nazjatar use portal in stormwind to Borlaus then portal to Nazjatar ). Fish it up from then you need to catch it from ground xD.

3. Viticcio Spirastretta - You can pick it up from located in Shimmering Expanse 34.7 74.9. To get to Shimmering Expanse use in Stormwind to Vashj'ir 73.9 74.9. is located in 2nd level of underwater structure.

After collect 3 items fly back to Baronessa Vashj 57.6 92.1 in Maldraxxus.

Step 3

Take Esca per Aurelide to Zereth Mortis 51.8 74.4 and use it, will spawn when you will fish on it Hirukon will come up. After kill you have a chance to get Polipo Stellafonda and Estensione Radiante di Hirukon.

i get 2 Gelatina Strana and take me 4-6h of fishing to get one.

Hirukon is a part of Avventuriero di Zereth Mortis.
