What is Ashen Ink?

Inchiostro Cinereo unlocks the black re-color for Camuffamento dell'Accolito.
Ashen Ink is a criterion for the necrolord achievement Alta moda da cripta.

How do you get Ashen Ink?

It drops from the rare NPC Zargox il Rinato in Maldraxxus.
It probably drops only if you have obtained Camuffamento dell'Accolito.
According to All The Things, Ashen Ink may drop for non-necrolord characters, but only if you have already obtained Camuffamento dell'Accolito.

How do you summon Zargox the Reborn?

Go to Snyder Sixfold in Maldraxxus: /way #1536 26.2 42.6 Synder Sixfold
Accept his questAnimatore d'animateria.
- (If Snyder does not offer you this quest, speak to him and he'll give you Globo d'Animateria.)
- Go directly to /way #1536 28.8 51.4 Bone Mass spawn location .
- If Massa d'Ossa (big bone pile) is spawned: stand on it and use Globo d'Animateria to summon Zargox.
- If Massa d'Ossa is not spawned:
  
  Use Globo d'Animateria on Resti d'Ossa (small bone piles) in the area between the Bone Mass spawn location and Sixfold Snyder.
- This will eventually cause Massa d'Ossa to spawn.
- Once Massa d'Ossa is spawned, stand on it and use Globo d'Animateria to summon Zargox.

Important Points

You do not need to completeAnimatore d'animateria before summoning Zargox. All you need is Globo d'Animateria and Bone Mass to be spawned.

Zargox is lootable once per day, and can be summoned as often as you like.

Zargox spawns at 50% HP. He is soloable.

When spawned, Massa d'Ossa will appear on the mini-map as a yellow dot.

Don't stray far from the Bone Mass spawn point. If Bone Mass spawns, another player could summon and kill Zargox if you're not watching.

If you have an addon that displays item IDs (such as idTip), Bone Remains with id 157169 will always spawn animates that aren't hostile. All others seem to be 50/50 on whether the spawned animate will be hostile or not.

I'm going to try using the Camuffamento dell'Accolito next time I kill him. I have a theory that this (and the Jagged Bonesaw) only drop while using the toy which I'm basing on its reduced cooldown when used in Maldraxxus effect.

After months of unsuccessful attempts, the Ashen Ink finally dropped for me today. This is probably pure coincidence, but for quite a while I haven't had a construct companion with me but today I had Miru Steelbloom and I had swapped souls with them when I got the Ashen Ink to drop. Worth trying, I guess! See if it makes any difference for anyone else. Good luck!

Just got it after my 4th kill from Zargox, you dont need to finish the quest, you just need the item Orb. However while trying to use orb to spawn the Bone Mass you might as well complete the quest as once you get the quest done then in the following days when the quest isnt there you can still get the Orb by talking to the NPC.

Took exactly 100 kills to drop for me.

Don't give up, it does exist.

There's literally no reason it should be this rare though.

Dropped after like 30-40 kills. Keep the quests for the bone item in the inventory so you can save time. Dull grind :)

Feeling like a bit of a conspiracy theorist posting this, but has anyone else noticed since Season 4 launch in Shadowlands the bones / Zargox are spawning a lot slower?

What noone seem to be answering is the simple question, when people say "i got it after my 30th kill"- does that mean you killed it 30 times in one day, or 1 time per day for 30 days?

Has anyone have the criteria reset for them? I was not Necrolord and it dropped. I received the criteria complete on the achievement but now looking at it a few months later its gone. Still have not changed to Necrolord but I will be soon once I wrap up my current covenant.

Dropped after 7 months of farming it on one character. Was necrolord at the time.
