I'v heard from shammy's that this isn't a great shield because the fact that it dmg's it's self. Altho, the 1st time i said i could craft it in /2 (Trade) i got a guy /w me and say he wanted one made. :) So its good for something. Maybe a Shammy could tell us more.

Be extremely cautious about using this shield. Although the additional armor and block are nice, I've heard of incidents of the proc on this shield causing aggro to unwanted adds (scarabs, imps, etc) in raids and instances. Other than that, I've only heard good things about it.

I had this back in the pre-BC days for the laughs, but if you are a warrior it is not something you will use for tanking. The 'electrical' charge will break CC, and what's worse, your durability will go down a lot faster.

It dropped for a friend of mine during an alt MC for giggles, though I don't know why any sane person would need confirmation. Obviously the pattern is still in game. Why would it get removed? It makes no sense. Blizzard tends to NEGLECT their old content after an expansion, not retroactively go back and remove all the secret low droprate goodies.

It's just that no one clears MC anymore. So obviously a low droprate pattern from bosses is not going to be a commonly found item. Come on.

It is actually a very good tool for tanking big trash groups as warrior tank as well. As warrior you block a lot, so the damage from the proc will help you keep the adds from aggroing the healer. As others have stated its durability drops very quickly, so you should only use it for big pulls where the extra AoE threat is needed. Use a standard shield on bosses and smaller groups.
I would love to see this schematic more readily available. MC raids ar few and far between these days...

It can also be looted on Ragnaros himself. I looted it after a tedious but nonetheless memorable one-woman battle against the big one. Unfortunately I'm not an engineer, but nice loot anyway. Good luck!

This shield is the reason I decided to pick up Engineering on my Paladin. I've seen it drop on other characters, but no luck on the Paladin, yet.

I can confirm this pattern is still in game. It dropped for me today (May 8th, 2012) during my weekly clear of MC.

As a LW and Skinner, it's worth 3g to a vendor.

Ran molten core on all my characters for 2 weeks to get this and leveled engineering on the one that got it, to 300 (very easy if your 90). I've seen no competition for this shield in the last 90 days on my realm (high pop). Expect to make huge profit on this unique model, come legion wardrobe.

As of 7.3.2 (12-10-17) this item still drops for non-engineers.

I hadn't realized I looted it, so I can't say where/when I got it, but while questing in Drustvar I picked this up on my Engineer. I was nowhere near Molten Core.
