This recipe is purely focused on Dire Maul. The Runn Tum Tuber that you need for it is found in the pods throughout DM East. That is the only place that I have found it. The buff that you get from this dish is nice, but since you can only have one food buff active at a time, Nightfin Soup http://www.wowhead.com/?item=13931 is a better caster buff imo.

How to get this:
The recipe is found in Dire Maul (DM for short) in the "east" section, this is the only section that you can get into with out the crescent key. There are two ways of entering DM east, you want to enter through the courtyard, the door is on the right hand side, or east side. Once in you will see an imp who you can talk to. If you talk to him, he will run away and tell you to try and find him. If you simply follow the path that the instance lays out for you, you will have to talk to him 3 or 4 more times. The last time you talk to him he will run away to a corner witch you will find just by following the instance, and he will be hostile. You must kill him, and he will drop the recipe for Runn Tum Tuber Surprise. Note: he only drops one recipe so make sure you are the only cook before taking it. Also the imp will drop the crescent key for everyone in the party, if you pick it up, it will give you access to the rest of DM. I hope this helped the cooks who are after this recpies

as added note, the tubers for the resipe are also found in dm, you will find spors that you can loot in every part of dm. most will be a trap, but when you find a good one, you should get about 10 tubers. they also sell well in the AH

This recipe is now as of patch 2.3 the ONLY way to get past 275 cooking without having to buy fish / skill fishing.

Waste less time - Get a DM group. Old school peeps can run it just for nostalgia, warlocks might need it for their mount. "I'll help you with the dreadsteed if you help me kill Pusillin." is a fair trade.

It's actually really easy to solo Pusillin for the recipe at 70-ish. Easier for some classes then for others of course, but if you bring a friend it should really be a breeze. So if you're leveling cooking late in the game, level wise, this might be a better alternative to buying fish of the AH or even leveling up fishing just to get to 300 cooking.

I went in once for the recipe and whatever Runn Tum Tubers I could find on the way, and then two more checks of the first room only for more tubers (resetting the instance in between). All in all I got 41 of them (and the recipe) in about an hour (also counting the travel time to Dire Maul), which was enough to get me from 275 to 312. Just watch out for the Warpwood Crushers as they have a significantly larger aggro radius then the other mobs in there.

This is a helpful recipe for leveling your cooking skill from 275 to 300.
However you need to be level70 to solo Dire Maul East, otherwise you need either a group for it or a boost from someone. It is a ~lvl56 instance.

Alternatively you can get from 250 to 285 with the new Bear Flank recipies, and then go fom 285 to 300 with the Smoked Desert Dumplings in Silithus(you need 285 cooking to accept the quest for it).

From 300 onwards the new TBC recipies kick in.

Awesome recipe for leveling cooking from 275 to 300. Simply awesome!!!

I just soloed this as a 70 RESTO druid, so I don't want to hear that anyone shouldn't be able to obtain this. Along the way to the boss and afterwards, I wandered around DM collecting Run Tunn Tubers. Again, very easy to do. Hearth out, cook food, level up. Done.

To be honest, as a lvl 80 paladin going to level cooking, this looks kinda attractive for cooking, as im no fisher, and you only need 1 per skillup. Also read, that you can get ALOT of the mats in 1 unit. Ill check that tho.

You got a 50% chance to get between 5 and 10 tubers per pod.
So a minimum of pods would be 5. With 50% chance optimized to 1/2, 10 pods.
I call that the BEST way to level cooking, PERIOD!

Fishing may be in your best interest since it will always be associated with cooking and is required for Fish Feast without splurging in the AH. There's also fishing quests when you hit outlands and northrend which have pretty cool rewards in return for the massive amount of sitting around you have to do.

Going by the older posts I didn't think I would be able to do this solo yet (level 50 hunter).

However, while exploring Feralas I decided to run into Dire Maul. At level 50 I could bypass alot of the patrols as they didn't aggro unless I ran pretty close.

Some of the really massive tree-ent type elites were giving me a hard time, so I ate a few deaths exploring and killing part of a patrol or two I could seem to get by without removing. It was not fast, but I got to the end of Pusillin's run and dropped him for my recipe.

With my cooking levelling really slow 225-300 (especially 250+) with all the missing due to cata (apparently that is getting fixed) recipes from Felwood and such, I am glad I got this. One more DM visit should get me enough tubers from the easily accessed spawns. To get as high as this recipe will take me.

This is indeed a VERY good way to get past 295 cooking as everything was gray to me and my fishing was way over. A quick run got me over 3 stacks, my second run was so so but I ended up being able to start cooking from outland materials after using this. Save the time of fishing for the fishes required from the Feralas recipes with this.

I can confirm this recipe still drops. Won it on greed roll last night in Dire Maul.

Recipe still drops (June 2017), 100% drop rate, but you have to keep talking to Pusillin to keep him moving to the battle with him. Note that only one recipe drops each time; not great for groups. Easy to solo when you are high level.

The Item you cook, Sformato di Tubero Runn Tum, is very much a caster food; buffs intelligence. It only buffs for ten minutes, but is instant cast, you do not have to sit for several seconds to get the buff. The Tubero Runn Tums for you to cook are only available in Dire Maul; mostly from Baccello di Legnotorto found mainly in the Warpwood Quarter, but I have harvested some in Gordok Commons, and Pusillin may drop some (8%).

Has anyone had this drop since the scaling patch? I have characters that have run Dire Maul and killed him several times and have yet to see ANYONE get it including my characters who have 300 cooking

As of 9.0.2, Pusillin is still in the game, and still drops the recipe.

He's located near the dungeon quest givers: Furgus Warpwood and "Ambassador" Dagg'Thol = by the fallen / broken pillar.

Objective:

1. Talk to him. Click, "Game? Are you Crazy?"
2. Follow him. If you have speed boosts such as: spirit wolf - it's easier to chase him.
3. You'll end up chasing him to The Hidden Reach area of the dungeon.
4. Kill him and his "little friends," and tah-dah you have the recipe.
