If you're using the "View in 3D" function to get a peek at this mount, one thing to note is that the eyes are off. The "View in 3D" function shows the eyes as red, and in the model viewer, the lightning effect never turns them white. I noticed it looked wrong immediately and went to compare Huolon.

When viewing the Huolon mount - the black version - in the model viewer, it is the same. The eyes are red, never turning white with the lightning effect.

I happen to have Huolon, so I went to go mount him in the actual game.

Sure enough, the real Huolon's eyes are white with lightning probably 70% of the time. You can barely see the red even in the off-moments. In fact, I never noticed before that his eyes even were red, underneath the lightning effect.

So I gather that the effect in the model viewer is just off, and when you obtain this beauty, you will get the white, lightning-lit-up eyes, too.

In fact, the lightning effect in the model viewer on both of these seems dramatically reduced (using Huolon as a basis). I'm sure the real one will be much nicer.

Another thing is that the puffing in the model viewer seems to be very over-emphasised. I'm looking at the real Huolon in the game and he barely puffs, while the one in the model viewer is doing it constantly.

This is such a sick color scheme for a cloud serpent model to have, and the lightning effects make it even look more fearsome, I will def be trying to work my way to getting this bad boy.

It's currently unknown what drops the Scaglia di Serpe delle Nubi Intatta that is exchanged for this mount from the Rajani Provisioner, Zhang Ku, in The Silent Sanctuary. It may be related to the invasions?

The item for this mount drops from Rei Lun in the "Halls of the Serpent" in Guo-Lai Halls in the Vale. Spawns at the very bottom of the zone (Go straight once you enter & immediately down to the lowest portion.) You do NOT need to have a cloak to be able to loot the scale OR to be able to turn it in. As long as you're able to see the updated vale you're able to loot the scale. (Will update this comment if anyone needs, trying to give as much helpful information as possible!)

There is no reputation requirement to purchase the mount, just need the scale. Very low drop rate. (1%-2%)
Only spawns during Mogu invasions in the Vale. Thus, during Mantid and Black Empire invasions, Rei Lun will NOT spawn.

I am wondering if the drop rate is a bit higher than originally thought. I killed him for the very first time last night and it dropped for me. I was just killing some time before work and helped a monk healer kill some stuff and he spawned.

If you kill BFA rares for pets, toys and mounts across multiple toons and want a way to track that easily, I created a do-it-yourself edit for the fantastic SavedInstances addon that adds tracking for a bunch of them like Rei Lun, Corpse Eater, or Rustfeather among others. You can make these changes yourself with any text editor.

Add the following lines to the Quests.lua file in SavedInstances addon folder starting at approximately line 60 (in the "_specialQuests" array):

The folks who made the SavedInstances addon have a stated policy of not adding tons of individual rares to the addon, but in comments on their project site pointed out how you can do it. It's one of my top must-have addons, and I recommend if you're a collection farmer you get it.

Got mine today after camping him with 7 alts everytime the mogu invasion was up. As you can only kill him once a day the more alts the better, so after 22 attempts I got him. Which surprised me since the drop rate is supposed to be very low. Now onto the next mount hunt, good luck everyone

Okay, so, read this comment first if you haven't played through BfA and have no clue what the cluck is going on or how to get to the point where you can farm this mount because this comment is designed with the future in mind i.e. people who either don't know how to trudge through the swamp of unlocks or people like me, who... have forgotten (and wanted to farm on subsequent characters, which you should be doing btw).

1. You will have to unlock BfA. Go into the main Horde house with the ~~Fuhrer~~ *cough* I mean ~~Warchief~~ *cough* I mean Great Bloody Lord Peacenick in it. (This is seriously how it was in my time: The battle between the Horde and the Flatulence had never burned hotter, Baine was somehow elected - I didn't vote for him! - and he refused to be called Warchief.)

a. Talk to High Overlord Saurfang and complete Hour of Reckoning.
b. Follow the quest sequence. If you have played through BfA with one character before, you can tell Isabella "I have heard this story before" and skip Battle for Lordaeron. When you skip you're put on the quest to go see Nathanos atop the gates of Orgrimmar, but nothing will pop up. Just go see him; he has a question mark for you to turn in.
b1. If you're already max-level, it's possible you didn't have to do any of that and you're already about to meet with Nathanos in the little inn.
c. Skip the cut scene.
d. Meet up with Nathanos at the Inn, and as soon as you accept Stormwind Extraction, if you can, tell Nathanos that you've heard it before so you can skip the sympathy-for-the-mopey-traitor scenario where we learn that the "best" people of the Horde love the ~~Flatulence~~ ...I mean the Alliance... more than the Horde.
d1. If you can't, you will unfortunately have to complete the scenario.
d2. As an interesting note, if you want to keep the item Blightcaller's Easy Death, you can do so by destroying the item, going back to Orgrimmar and picking up the quest again, skipping the scenario again, completing the quest, and then finally using Item Restoration to get the one back that you destroyed. It doesn't work anymore; I just wanted to keep it.
e. Follow Princess Mojobozo up the hill (yes, on a ground mount; she insists), meet her ugly stupid father, and do the follow-up quests which mostly involve looking around, following people, pretending to be nice to the Trolls, and planting a flag. When you have earned the achievement Welcome to Zandalar, this step is over.

1.5. Go to the ship, talk to the Nathanos, and unlock world quests.

2. You will have to unlock Nazjatar. You will get a quest while you are on the ship to do so, provided you're already of the appropriate level, which at this point is 50. If you can't get the quest and think you should be entitled to it, try talking to the captain without having quest to do so. This happened to one of my characters and this is what worked.

a. Talk to the Captain and set sail.
b. You will have to do all the quests until Maggie shows up. It's a pain, and a bit long. This is around the time you will talk to Oculeth and unlock the portal.
c. Maggie will have a quest for you - take it.
d. Do all of Maggie's quests (you will have to go to Highmountain and help the moose dragon until he gives you a black scale) and you should have access to Return of the Black Prince which unlocks Visions of N'Zoth and your legendary cape, though I'm not sure this will still be available in the future. One thing to note is that once you've defeated the big brick and returned to the heart forge, you have to talk to the moose dragon and say "let's go meet Maggie" before you can advance.
e. You can do the follow-up quests and earn successive colour dragon scales (green, red, blue) to raise your first heart essence to level 4, but it is my understanding that you don't have to, and you only have to earn the first one, which is the black one.

3. You will have to unlock the Litterbox invasions. First.

a. Return of the Black Prince (which pops up automatically at this point) should segway naturally into the Litterbox (hey, cats live here and it's full of sand; don't blame me).
b. Accept A Titanic Problem until it turns into The Halls of Origination and you will absolutely have to complete this long, tiresome scenario (unless things change). Tips: 1) On the fifth stage (puzzle stage) don't cross the beams and the answer is much more obvious. 2) On the seventh stage (last stage) you want the third floor, not the first.
b0. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME YOU CAN GO TO THE VALE AND KILL REI LUN: WHEN YOU ACCEPT THE QUEST A TITANIC PROBLEM. However, if you do not do the rest of this long pointless nonsense, while you absolutely will be zoned into Rei Lun if it is a Mogu Invasion, you will have no way to know if the Mogu Invasion is up in Pandaria (required for Rei Lun to spawn) or some other invasion.
c. Complete the quest that takes you back to Ramakhen and tell the Cat King you'll join him.
d. As per the quest you'll get (Surfacing Threats) you'll have to complete one assault in the Litterbox before you can move ahead. When you accept Forging Onward, this step is complete. One more step to go.

4. Now you're ready to start unlocking the Vale invasions - these are the ones you need for Rei Lun.

a. The quest that ended the last step sent you back to the Heart. Pick up It's Never Easy and help Maggie find the tribe of good Mogu until you get the Quest Maggie's Findings. Done. Vale invasions unlocked. Would go into more detail but I ran out of room.

I never noticed this until now, but it seems that all of the Serpent mounts with lightning on them --and ONLY those with lightning on them-- actually have little wisps of Eastern-style clouds coming out of their nostrils when the mount is moving forward!

I noticed while appreciating my brand-new Serpe da Guerra dei Rajani, so I checked for the nostril clouds on Serpe delle Nubi Tonante di Rubino and she had it too! But when I checked on my only other serpent mount, Yu'lei, Figlia della Giada, I saw that she didn't have the nostril clouds. So, I think it's just the ones with lightning.

Absolutely one of the coolest mounts. Now that everyone's in Shadowland, it's easier to camp, leaving a char there and coming back every 40-45 minutes. The room for this mount is mostly empty now, or with 1-2 players waiting. Got mine today in the 3rd attempt (but had tried previously, many, many times before Shadowlands). Easily soloable at lvl 60.

Spawn timer appears to be between 30 and 60 minutes. Averages about 45. Can be looted for a mount item chance once per character, per day during The Warring Clans Assault (along with Anh-De the Loyal, Ha-Li, and Houndlord Ren). If you're lucky, you can time some of these rares between Rei Lun kills to maximise your farming.

Boss is underground in the temple BTW. I was trying to find it up above where all the sparkles are assuming it spawns up there.

so men! that took a while i wanted to farm pristine cloud serpent scale that drops from rei lun for the rajani warserpent on multiple alts but it seems it is going to take a really long time to get those alts ready for it to unlock the vissions of nzoth assaults where the rare spawns i have to qiut a bit of work before hand on fresh toons that never played bfa the first thing was the puzzel of what to do and looking and browsing wowhead and reading comments luckely there was a good one that helpt a lot for doing it in 2023
i dont know if this will help anybody but i thought i share what i did and maybe someone can use this info

how to unlock visions of nzoth assaults
---------------------------------------------

talk to magni next to the inn in boralus
go to Silithus and do a few qeust till you get the heart of azeroth
go back to the portal to boralus
talk to Halford Wyrmbane for the qeust Uniting Kul Tiras
talk to cyrus crestfall to set sail to nazjatar
do the qeust in nazjatar up to and including a way home when you get a portal back to boralus turn in that qeust and then magni will appear there
he will send you to the chamber of heart and there you wil do a qeust from magni and mother to get the essence you do qeust up to Harnessing the Power
then the unwelcome advisor qeust will pop up and you start the patch 8.3 qeust chain and you follow that qeust chain till the assault in uldum
complete the asssault in uldum
you then return to the chamber of heart and go futher with the qeust chain again up to the your first assault in vale of eternal blossoms
complete your the assault in the vale of eternal blossoms
and that is it! you have unlocked vissions of nzoth assualts
