Can anyone confirm that you need to be in your proper loot spec to get the rank 4 essence from the chest? For me as a warrior, for example, Rajani offers the protection essence - I would need to switch to protection loot spec before obtaining and opening the box to even have a chance? Let me know. :)

The Uldum Accord paragon supplies is showing an 11% drop rate for the rank 4 essence while the two rank 4 essences from the Rajani paragon supplies is around 1.2% at the time of this posting according to Wowhead. I multibox 5 characters and do the daily quests every day. Four of my five characters have the Uldum Accord rank 4 essence while none of them have either of the Rajani rank 4 essences, despite earning the same amount of reputation with both factions. My personal experience seems to be consistent with the data on Wowhead.

It's tough to say exactly how the drop rate works. The DPS rank 4 essence seems to have a much higher drop rate. This is also true if you go back and look at the drop rate for the rank 4 essences from the Mechagon and Nazjatar paragon supplies. There are naturally many more DPS characters than healers or tanks in the game, which suggests to me that your spec or loot spec must play some sort of role in determining the first drop. I find it extremely unlikely that Blizzard would simply make the DPS essence drop rate ten times higher than the healer or tank essences.

However, while farming for the Mechagon essences, I personally looted the tank rank 4 essence while in DPS spec with my loot spec set to healer. My running theory was that the first rank 4 essence you looted would match your loot spec, and then the remaining essences would just be random drops. This tier has two separate paragon supply bags though so I'm not sure if that theory makes sense any longer.

It's clear to me that your spec or loot spec plays some role in acquiring the corresponding rank 4 essence (at least the first one), which is why the DPS essences show to have a much higher drop rate. I would say the safest thing to do is always make sure you accept and open your paragon supply bag in the appropriate spec and loot spec just in case it matters. It would be nice if Blizzard would clarify how exactly the drops work for these rank 4 essences.
