Salvage crates, such as Materiali di "Recupero" della S.P.R. & Co., are new to patch 8.3 and are basically a form of loot box that allows you to spend Doblone del Marinaio for a chance at the Island Expedition rewards.

They are sold by a new vendor near the Island Expedition Map Table - Captain Kitt for the Horde and Captain Nightrunner for the Alliance.

The epic-quality salvage crates cost 175 Doblone del Marinaio and the rare-quality salvage crates cost 120 Doblone del Marinaio. Currently on the PTR, the vendors only sell three types of these epic/rare-quality salvage crates at any given time. Whichever salvage crates are available at the vendor rotates every week, just like the available islands do, but is unrelated to the actual islands that are available that week. For example, on the first reset after the PTR went live, the islands available were Molten Cay, Jorundall and Verdant Wilds and the vendor sold Materiali di Recupero dell'Isola del Terrore, Materiali di Recupero di Boscosalvo and Materiali di Recupero dell'Isola Infossata. On the second reset, the islands available were Rotting Mire, Verdant Wilds and Skittering Hollow and the vendor sold Materiali di Recupero di Boscosalvo, Materiali di Recupero di Sboccianeve and Materiali di Recupero dei Terreni Verdeggianti. So if you want a specific salvage crate, you will have to wait until the week it is available.

The uncommon-quality salvage crates may or may not be available on any given week and their chance of being available seems to be unrelated to the epic/rare-quality salvage crates. The Materiali di Recupero Elementali costs 75 Doblone del Marinaio and the Materiali di "Recupero" della S.P.R. & Co. costs 50 Doblone del Marinaio.

The crates have a chance to drop any available reward from that specific island including transmog, rep items, toys, pets and most lucratively, mounts. I’m unsure if the quest-starting items for the achievement Raccontami una storia are obtainable through these salvage crates as I have obtained them all (and therefore can't get them again).

On the PTR, I have opened 100 of each salvage crate type to get a rough idea of what drops and what the drop chances are, deleting unique items as soon as I obtain them so I have the potential to get them again. Remember this is only an estimate as 100 crates of each isn’t nearly enough data to get a completely accurate drop chance.

As an extra note, I had already obtained Medusa Schiumosa and Cacciatore Rigonfio di Sangue on live before my testing and obtained Saltabaratri Cornosaldo on live halfway through testing. From my testing and reading comments I can say with absolute certainty that you cannot obtain a mount that you have already learned. I will add a note if others report obtaining one of these mounts from a particular salvage though.

From my openings I will state the following:
- Each salvage crate contains at least 3 items. Occasionally you will get 4 items.
- Transmog is the most common item and each salvage crate contains specific sets and weapons.
- Your class and spec seems to have no effect on the transmog items you get from the salvage crates.
- Rep turn-in items are common and can come in stacks of 1-2. I’ve only counted the times they dropped, not the actual number of rep items I obtained.
- The salvage crates that drop toys have a relatively high chance of dropping them.
- The salvage crates that drop pets (most of them) have a relatively high chance of dropping them. I didn’t really think it was worth listing since there are so many pets that can drop.
- You can obtain specific mounts from specific salvage crates and the drop chance appears to be around 20%. Not sure if this changes depending on whether you already have any of the mounts that can drop.
- You cannot obtain a mount you already have from the salvage crates. I know this as I obtained Saltabaratri Cornosaldo on live and opened another 100 Materiali di Recupero dell'Isola Infossata and only got Grancorno Pellesalda. In addition, I have never seen Cacciatore Rigonfio di Sangue drop for myself despite others getting it.
- I have no idea what Retro-Estimatore Portatile is atm, but it drops from most of the salvage crates.

Captain Nightrunner DOES NOT sell Venture Co. 'Salvage' as Wowhead says.
Anyone knows how to obtaine this box?
