There are at least two skin variations for this pet. Probably three to match each Matriarch.
So far I can confirm a dark grey and a purple skin. No light blue yet.

Can anyone confirm whether these are a timed spawn rare, or a kill-x-number-of-mobs rare? Been killing Hydras all day and haven't seen any of them spawn once. x.x

Currently at 36/20 kills of the Matriarchs on 3 different characters over several days for this pet. Wondering if it will ever drop.
I can confirm that they spawn randomly between 1- 2 hours but usually less than 1.5 hours and the Matriarch Gratinax seems to spawn more often

I was hoping that I could fly in the middle of the 3 spawn locations and have NPC scan tell me when one came up. I am 192-195 yards away from all 3 spawns all day and not once did I hear the NPCScan alert for this rare in a 9 hour day :( I heard it go off for random Sandclaw and what not that heppen to be in same area but not one of these guys. Can they spawn every day, or is there a cycle... Or am I just a little bit too far away form all 3 of them. :P
