Hi! Want to share combined knowledge on how to boost follower experience.
Stable version of the comment.

Zampa di Granchio Gigante - 50 reputation with Poen Branchiak/Spadaccino Inowari. Drop from Scorzasalda Sferzasabbia and crabs west of Gate of the Queen (~41 16). +1 drop once from Pilone Arcano.
Ala di Manta delle Profondità - 50 reputation with Neri Pinnafine/Cacciatore Akana. Drop from Silente and rays in Coral Forest (~ 58 50).
Filetto d'Anguilla - 50 reputation with Vim Cuorsalmastro/Chiaroveggente Ori. Drop from Infestatore del Baratro and eels in The Hanging Reef (~ 50 72) + Deepcoil Tunnels (~61 18).
Corteccia di Solcabarriere - 20 reputation with each bodyguard (60 total). Drop from Corallice Piangente/Anemonar/Urduu/Oronu and Solcabarriere Sbocciatenebre in The Hanging Reef (~50 72). +1 drop once from Pilone Arcano.
Paguro Eremita Stranamente Saggio - 75 reputation with targeted bodyguard. Random proc from Mrrl with Cappa dello Sfogatempeste Azsh'ari (make sure you get the WA for murlocs - its a blessing).
Corteccia Antica di Solcabarriere - 100 reputation with each bodyguard (300 total). Drop from Corallice Piangente/Anemonar/Urduu/Oronu. Not 100% drop, but very high. WEEKLY.
Ordini di Schieramento dei Naga - 150 reputation with each bodyguard (450 total). This is a drop from Cassa Luccicante (obtainable after using Pietra Rivelatrice) or Tomo dall'Aspetto Inquietante sold by Mrrl.
As for my experience, I would recommend farming Orders from chests after the reset and then wait for Tome from Mrrl. Very rare drop from chests, not sure if I had them drop twice a week.

Tip for Murloco - buy one Taco di Tentacoli dell'Araldo Affamato, sell to vendor, buy another one, craft an item from Mrrl and buyback for next time :)
Also, if Fasciature degli Shirakess following their description, they might be related to these items.

Follower levels doesn't give any boosts to their exp. e.g. no point to max one follower and then the others.
As they are leveling up by "experience", you don't get bonuses from Darkmoon Faire etc.

Recommendations:
0. Phasing. If Ordini di Schieramento dei Naga and/or Paguro Eremita Stranamente Saggio are sold today by Mrrl, you can buy them again tomorrow. Jump Nazjatar groups and find yesterday's phase. Sometimes it's really tough but don't give up. Also, you definitely can buy different items from different phases e.g. you buy "first" item without cloak and then you buy second with it - first item would be locked though.
1. Actual "farming" is not worth the time. Getting Corteccia Antica di Solcabarriere weekly and buying items from Mrrl differs by ~one extra Ordini di Schieramento dei Naga and 1-2 greenies only.
2. Rares have much higher chance to drop rep items, so aim for them and then try to farm small ones if needed. The bigger the mob - the bigger the chance.
3. Get WA for auto-buying items from Mrrl - can be found in the comment by Sipder2. It's a blessing (buggy though -> relog).
4. Don't waste too much time on Pietra Rivelatrice. Really not worth your time in life.

Got the Avventure acquatiche on August 16, 2019 that is about 7 weeks. But you can do better!

If you are looking to get this essence as quickly as possible, make sure to always log in before reset on the day after Mrrl sells the Ominous Looking Tome with all the same materials that the Ominous Looking Tome required the day before so either buy double of everything or take note of what materials were required.

There is a short period of time between the daily quest reset and Mrrl's items changing giving you time to buy it a second time, you will not however be able to buy the item that is supposed to be up for that day, but since the Tome is the best thing Mrrl sells that is not a big issue.

Does anyone know if the Rank 4 cosmetic change affects the Minor Power triggering, or just the Major?

So, I finally got the achieve "Aqua Team Murder Force" three years after anyone else, and went to buy the Pearl of Luminous Design, and the vendor doesn't have it. Was it removed from the game? Yes, I already have Memory of Lucid Dreams rank 3.

I just completed the Aqua Team Murder Force and can confirm that the pearl is no longer purchasable... Blizz just removed rank 4 because reasons. Yea, just like that :/
