The pickaxe mines Brinestone Deposits in Brinestone Cove, which is the farthest wet on the northern coast of Nazjatar, around 35.7 10.7.

It should be mentioned this item is required to summon "Avarius" rare mob. You mine deposits to find the different coloured stones then put them at the stone circle. Then the mob is summoned.

Piccone per Salmastrite is not used to summon Avarius. If you are looking for the uncommon Piccone per Salmastrite, please click the link. Piccone per Salmastrite begins the quest Che cosa si estrarrà?. After you have completed Che cosa si estrarrà? any pickaxe you loot will be the Piccone per Salmastrite. That is used to summon Avarius. If you arrive to this area before turning in Che cosa si estrarrà? you will be phased and will not be able to see other players or the rare if someone else summons it.

This just dropped for me while mining an Osmenite deposit. So you don't need to kill the rares to get it.

No one has said, does it require the mining skill or is this just a quest item to summon the mob and usable regardless of professions?

If you're having trouble finding one of these, check out Cassa Arcana. This is specifically the one located at 34.5, 40.5, near the hydras and south/southeast of the murlocs, though for all I know it may apply to any arcane chests. I hadn't found the initial quest pickaxe on my paladin, who has Mining trained and would like higher ranks of osmenite mining, and I saw that this chest has a 21% chance of dropping the pickaxe. However, I also thought that maybe the chance was higher, given that the 21% covers all drops recorded, but the quest pickaxe can't drop if you've already gotten it from another source before looting this chest. Sure enough, got the pickaxe!

Despite nobody mentioned it yet, you need to have World Quests unlocked to have this item dropped.

Here are some simple-ish steps to unlock rank 3 Osmenite mining in 2023:

- Unlock Nazjatar
- Unlock WQ in Nazjatar - after you first arrive in Newhome you get a quest from Magni that starts a chain you must complete to unlock WQs.
- Talk to Rolm to learn rank 1
- To learn rank 2, start by looting a Piccone per Salmastrite. I found this Cassa Arcana with a unique ID and a really high drop rate according to wowhead - and looted it first try. (Note: this is also a world drop with 1% or less from most trash mobs, low chance from ore nodes, etc.)
- Complete the quest Che cosa si estrarrà? (given to you by Piccone per Salmastrite).
- This quest becomes a daily to kill Avarius, who drops the items - so come back the next day. Note: these are not 100% drop rate items.
- Rank 3 is obtained by mining Osmenite ore/veins.

First complete the white item version of Brinestone Pickaxe quest:55531, which can drop from any rare or treasure in Nazjatar.
After you completed 'What Will It Mine?', you are now eligible to loot the green quality Brinestone Pickaxe from Chitterspine Encroachers around Avarius' location.
Once you obtained the green quality Brinestone Pickaxe, you can interact with the stone at the Rare's Location to start the summoning ritual.
You have to collect 5 different colored shards, which are mined from nearby untrackable Brinestone Deposits & put the correct shard into each pillar.
There are 7 Deposits, within max. 50-60 yards of the event, can be mined without the mining profession & have 1 minute respawn timer.
The mining recipes are not bound to a daily lockout & can be farmed.
Respawn timer of the Event is roughly 20 minutes.
