This toy is a reward from part 2 of the secret fish achievement series, Pesci segreti e dove trovarli.
To start this you'll need to complete part 1.

The goggles:
With the Occhiali dei Pesci Segreti buff applied a small fish in a bubble will spawn somewhere within 40 yards of you. If you have sound on you'll hear bubbles when it spawns then 5-10 seconds later the fish will become visible at which point you'll be able to click it. The fish can be clicked while mounted, you do not need to be in water for it to spawn and it will spawn every 25-30 seconds.

Best way to do this is find a spot that is flat and with few surrounding objects (trees, rocks, etc) and just spin your camera around until you see the bubble.

The Fish!
Each time you click the puffer you'll be given a random fish, most of the time it will be the white "junk" fish for whichever area you're in as well as the occasional grey item, with the exception of Dalaran where you'll commonly get coins usually caught from the eventide fountains.

Catchrate is quite low for many of these so expect to spend a fair amount of time for this.

I've split the fish into different catergories.

The common:
These fish can be caught anywhere at any time of the day, save these lot for last as you'll probably get most if not all of them hunting the others.

If you're still missing these after you catch the others, the best places to catch these are on the floating islands, like the ones scattered around Outland Nagrand (45.9, 59.9). The zone exclusive:
These fish can only be caught in specific zones and sometimes even in very specific areas within zones.
9. Merluzzo Sangue Marcio - Nazmir, Zul'Nazman.
10. Pesce Storico di Giada - Jade Forest.
11. Sogliola Tonante - Isle of Thunder.
12. Pesce Pagliaccio del Kirin Tor - Dalaran (Broken Isles/Northrend).
13. Sgombro Meccanizzato - Mechagon.
14. Delizia della Regina - Nazjatar.
15. Manapinna Antico - Suramar. Anywhere in the Suramar city harbour. (Credit to Roguezs).
16. Pesce Prigioniero - Tol Barad (PvP area). Anywhere in the zone, the bridge that connects the two islands is a great place for this one, just make sure you're on the PvP area side of it (check minimap).
17. Pesce di Fiordo Spinato - Howling Fjord.
18. Liscavile Morto - Argus, Krokuun and Antoran Wastes. (Credit to Padwarle and Neryssa).
19. Tortolliano da Acquario - Drustvar, under Anyport in the underwater Tortollan bar called 'The Drunk Tank'.
20. Platessa dell'Aria Rarefatta - Neverest Pinnacle, Kun-Lai Summit. (Credit to Qaccy and Pungyo).
21. Guardingo del Pozzo - Mount Hyjal, in the lake under Nordassil.
22. Pesciolino Annegato - Drowned Lands (46, 50) in Stormsong Valley. (Credit to Bobins666).
Note: With the exception of the Tank Deweller (Fish 19), these are confirmed locations and may not be the only location within the zones where they can be caught. For the Tortollan Tank Deweller, I was only able to catch it once I was in the very specific sub-zone (where the name changes above the minimap).

For those suffering from woeful luck with the rarer fish, like the Platessa dell'Aria Rarefatta, this was discovered by Asmundr.

To everyone who is having trouble looting some fish. You need to approach the places like Neverest and Nordrassil on foot without a flying mount (There is a small path just before the Neverest peak) Then the 100% dropchance Fishes don't bug out and are lootable once more (Thin Air Flounder and Well Lurker) Alternatively just use the goggles when standing at those places when they are off CD.

If you're still having issues, clearing your bags of all secret fish (vendor or delete them) may also fix it.

The time scheduled:
These fish can only be caught within certain times, while one is active, the other is not. Whichever fish is active at the time can be caught in any zone.
23. Pesceluna Elusivo - Night only. 9:30pm to 8am.
24. Assorbisole Dorato - Day only. 8am to 9:30pm.
Note: We're not sure on the specific day/night switch over time, the above is just based on the times we've been catching them. If you catch these outside of the posted times let me know. Make sure its server time, not your local time.

The dead:
These fish can only be caught while the player is dead. Once you're a ghost these fish can be caught in any zone. (Credit to FenixInfinito).
25. Fantasma Velato
26. Pescevitreo Occhiuto
27. Galleggiante Silenzioso
28. Salmone Spirituale
Best place to catch these on any floating island, like the one directly behind the southern bank of Broken Isles Dalaran. Suicide by flying up and dismounting. The buffed:
29. Pesce Specchio Verde - Requires the Dipinto di Verde buff from the Mechagon mechanocat painting station (63, 42). This can be applied by walking over the green puddle on the station or having another player throw a Vescica Piena di Vernice Verde at you. (Credit to Sishrot).

The sporadic:
30. Pinnascarto Rimosso - Can be caught in the "future" version of Mechagon that Cromie sends you to for the quest L'altro posto. Unfortunately this daily is only available sporadically. (Credit to Lacrit).

Just got the item and tested it out.

It lets you fish anywhere and contains all fish in the game! (Even Fish/Trash you usually fish in Lava) I fished up stuff from every expansion fish while creating the screenshot in Hillsbrad Foothills. (Even indoors!)

It doesn't show your current fishing rod equipped, and instead shows the basic model!

Also it only lasts for 15min with a 1hr cooldown. The Perks of this thing is that you don't have to move your mouse at all because the bobber is always at the exact same place. Really relaxed fishing!

Also everyone, even if not in a group (No matter the faction), can fish for it. Perfect if you are waiting for Rustfeather to spawn.

Just completed the achievement and got my little globe of fish!

It's the perfect thing for a quarter of an hour every hour of lazy fishing, it seems to drop just about any item you can fish up anywhere in game* - I got fish from every expansion and even a crate. I've even had rare fish and baits drop. It's beautiful, really stands out and is really easy to use since the bobber always lands in exactly the same place on the sphere.

Totally worth the grind!

Can everyone see it too?

Yes, this is visible to all players of both factions. I've tested this in both Zandalar and Mechagon and had both Horde and Alliance players fishing from it.

Can anyone else fish from it?

Yes! I had a dozen players fishing from it outside the Great Seal! It's a great way to get people playing together and I got a lot of questions.

Can ABSOLUTELY anything drop?

As I put this out in Zuldazar to test, I noticed that people were getting Il vecchio gnomo e il mare which indicates that the game treats it as a legitimate school. The loot table seems to be extremely large and my suspicion would be that for simplicities sake on Blizz's part, they simply made the loot table for Pesca nell'Oceano Compresso be the top level of the 'fish' database tree. I've received rare secret fish from it (which you can otherwise only get from from clicking the bubbles that spawn when you're wearing Occhiali dei Pesci Segreti) as well as Mechagon rare fish and at least one toy in the form of Cassa di Galleggianti in Scatola so it seems likely that almost anything CAN drop from it.

There's a chance that some kind of blacklist has been applied to prevent very specific rares from dropping. Imagine getting Vecchio Boccaferro in a Horde area, for example. Likewise, while it's technically a pool of fish and contains items from all zones whereTartarughe alla riscossa! can occur, it would be interesting to know if it could actually proc. Due to it only staying up for 15mins, it's going to be hard to find out.

EDIT - as commented below, it's been confirmed that the turtle mount is on the loot table for this item!

The new question I'd love to solve:

Does it persist?
Nothing seemed to link it to me and it's not selectable, so I wonder if it's persistent. I don't have any other toons at 110+ so had no way to check as most of my guild were too busy in Mechagon or Nazjatar.

I had done some group testing to see if there is a way to increase spawns of the Secret fish for the second achievement. I have found that if you are in the same group you can see each others nodes and interact with them. But when one person interacts with the node it will disappear. However, If the second person clicks on the node before the first persons cast, for collecting it, finishes then both can collect the same nodes. This methods allows for faster spawns of the nodes. But it does take coordination to a certain extent. Works well with the Dalaran Spot.

If you're farming for Queen's Delight or the common secret fish, I recommend using a glider or flying to the top of the large coral flower at 58, 52 in Nazjatar. It's a large, clear area that you can easily spot the bubbles on and you'll get a lot of the relevant fish for the 8.2 tier.

Does anyone with the hyper-compressed ocean have trouble with it sometimes? I lose the ability to fish. My cursor doesn't turn into a fish-hook and no amount of clicking or double-clicking does anything.

Is it ok to sell all the rare fish found while working on this?

As a side, the vendor sell price is listed as 25 G, but in-game, they are worth 10 S.

If you're having trouble clicking this thing, I think I found a quick fix for it.

Try inviting people and leaving the group before they accept. If you try inviting people while casting, it seems to make it unclickable.

Hey folks! I wanted to share some of the more interesting items currently obtainable by fishing with this toy! I'll update it as I find more.

Special Fishing Items
•Pandaria fish pets like Carpa Blu Piccina (normally from specific pools and circumstances in Pandaria)

Quest Items
• Anglers rep turn-in daily fish such as Gurami Tigrato Volante and Polpo Mimetico

Formerly Unobtainable Items?
(WoWHead has these listed as unavailable to players, currently, but I've fished them from this toy!)
• White-quality, but apparently useless, fish with no current source like Pescenero Corazzato, Mangiacorallo, and Merluzzo Nordico
• Interesting junk items like Speroni Rotti

Other Items
• Cassa Rinforzata, the random box of supplies fishable in Wrath of the Lich King zones (got a few while using the toy in Ironforge for some reason)
• Similarly, Cassa Sigillata, normally from Darkmoon Faire waters (both during and not during DMF week)
• A Talismano di Pietraverde just by itself (while using the toy in Ironforge)
• Emblema di Margoss without needing to be in Dalaran (and which works outside of Dalaran, as well!)
• Legion rare fish lures, such as Grasso di Balena Putrefatto and Squalo Arrabbiato e Stordito (the shark will absolutely chase down nearby low level players, may need to try it in the AH... ;) )

More predictably available but nice items include grey-quality armor (at 120, I seem to only receive armor that requires level 100 to equip) and fish offhands such as the Barracuda di Palude da 6 kg.

LIMITED AREAS: Using this toy in certain areas actually limits the loot table it pulls from!
• Tradewinds Market limits the ocean only to BFA fish from Kul Tiras (none from Zuldazar) and junk gear
• BOTH Dalaran cities, on the surface level, will limit the ocean to fish and items from their respective fountains (including the coins!)
• Northrend Dalaran Underbelly (sewers) will limit the ocean to fish and items normally from the waters in the sewer (the Underbelly in Legion Dalaran doesn't appear to limit the fishing table)
• Darkmoon Island limits the ocean to the fish and items normally fished around the Darkmoon Faire's shores

I've noticed that because the bobber is in the same place for everyone, it's a little hard to tell when a fish bites for you rather than for other players who are also fishing. So, if you're not using an addon like FishingBuddy, shameless plug:

It increases your game's master volume while you're channeling Fishing or Compressed Ocean Fishing. (Fishing bobbers make sound for only you.)

Also, side-note: when the toy expires after 15 minutes, it doesn't cancel an existing channel, and I still caught a fish a few seconds later, when a fish bit.

I equipped my underlight fishing pole, swam like fish, found a flat sea bottom, marked up with skull in middle, and other markers in a 40 yard radius.
Made a cuppa tea, had biscuits while I swam around finding secret fish ^^ any zone that has an (pool, ocean, river, puddle) this can be done, all you hear is bliss of the water, and the noise from the secret fish, and your shapeshift dont make mount flapping sounds etc.. ^^

Just wanted to add. I was on an alt who didn't have fishing as a prof and saw someone had put out a portable ocean and my alt was able to fish from it too!

So, it's usable by any player in your faction from what I could tell.

Is there a limit to how many casts one can cast to it, or did they nerf it? After a few minutes it would no longer let me cast any more. This seems to be new as I definitely sat there for the whole time it was up and fished before.

After getting this item (did in a party and it was highly bugged, some fish required soloing others not) it seems bugged!

As stated in the reply before me, it stops being usable after A/few casts B/being in a party.
Reloading ui, re logging or changing zones dont seem to help, it randomly allows casts in the 15 min its live and 1 hour cd ;(

Is anyone else experiencing 'empty' catches? I seem to be getting a handful per instance of the ocean being up.

I click the bobber, the game sound plays that I've caught something but no loot.

I caught a few mechagon secret fish from those globes while I was in stormwind.

Also, you cannot see other people bobbers now which is great.

I like to play a game called "Where Can I Drop My Hyper-Compressed Ocean Today?" The middle of the auction house is always fun because everyone else who has one will usually follow suit so you have an unending supply of oceans.

This is one of my very favorite toys, but it does tend to bug -- after a number of casts (6, 10, 4,1, 13, it seems random) it will stop working. Relogging or simply reloading the UI fixes it. But I love this thing and it is a godsend when waiting for a tank or just burning a few minutes before logging out for the night.

I discovered something very interesting tonight. I just got this toy and have been experimenting with it. Tonight I took it to Mezzamere in Nazjatar thinking I would get Viper fish which sell for a lot on my server. Instead what I found out is that I got 35 different fish from all over the game. Everything from old land fish, to now and every expansion and area in between. I got one of every thing and I also had several cast that yielded no fish or grey items like bones etc. It was very odd but I saw fish I hadn't seen since my first days in WOW. I don't know if it's every where in Nazjatar or just that area but every other time I have used it some where it yielded fish exclusively from that area. I thought I would share for anyone who wanted to take a trip down memory fishing lane.

Beware using this in the Brawler's Guild. I just earned the achievement for this toy, and decided it would be nice to fish with this for the Great Sea Ray I still need, and once I finished my first battle in the arena, I was sad to not be see my Ocean waiting for me. I do see the value in using it in other places though like waiting by world bosses and farming it up. Great toy. Just wish it was a slightly shorter CD

I used Esca per Anguille Abissali delle Profondità and I didn't catch a single Eel. So, that doesn't work.
Also, equipping a fishing pole does not change the visual of the pole you use for this.

If you use this in bfa uldum you get bfa uldum fishes only (Malformed Gnasher and Aberrant Voidfin). I haven't tried with bfa vale but I imagien it could work there as well.

This is one of the most interesting toys of the game, concept wise: Is a spherical portal = Interstellar type wormhole.

Hear me out and think about the fantasy of it for a moment, is not a compressed mass of water... is a portal to random underwater locations. Now Imagine a Goblin scuba diving in the coasts near Booty Bay and suddenly a bright, round blob of air pops up and a fishing bobber lands inside of it from the other side... LOL

Two Questions:

1. I saw people using this in raid. But when i use it, it says "there are no fish here". Why?
2. Can you fish mounts out of it?

Was using this in Guo Lai Halls during a Mogu Assault and I (and others) only caught Aberrant Voidfin and Malformed Gnasher. Fish that come from n'zoth assault zones in particular. This is the only time so far when the catch with this has been limited.

just wanted to come on to say that on top of the Great Sea Ray mount being fishable from the actual toy, if you're as lucky as my husband, you can also get it from clicking on one of the bubbles containing the secret fish. he just got it this morning while trying to get the Hyper-Compressed Ocean. :)

Fun useless tidbit: there's several similar compressed oceans right inside the entrance to Siege of Orgimmar in the Pools of Power (leading to Immerseus). They can't be fished of course, but they've been floating there since SoO opened--I never noticed them! Maybe hyper-compressed ocean is ancient Jinyu technology?

I am not sure this is among the comments, but I made an interesting discovery. I have been farming AP for Canna da Pesca di Sottoluce and I was in Alto Monte fishing from the schools. I decided to use my Oceano Ultra Compresso and at first I just got random stuff, but then I used Esca Arcana, Verme Gelato and such and BOOM I got the Salmone di Alto Monte Antico to drop while the buffs were up :)

Once learned, my alts could cast into it without having fishing learned!

Edit: Both factions can use the same ocean orb. Also, as some people have reported with buggy casts not looting anything, I did receive "The Old Gnome and the Sea" achievement (successfully fish from a school). So maybe its not a bug and just empty catches? Though hopefully a bug ;)

Other comments state that you can catch any fish from the game in here, but while fishing in Boralus, I only got Lane Snapper and Frenzied Fangtooth. Have not got a chance to test it elsewhere yet.

I've seen people getting mounts from the Oceano Ultra Compresso but does it matter where you fish for them? I've not seen any comments confirming if I'm fishing in Stormwind, I can get Medusa di Stagno for example. Do you need to be in the actual Zone that drops the mount?

Interesting observation, When having a friend help me die to get the ghost fish, we found they were able to see the bubbles when we were grouped and I was wearing the goggles. This got me to thinking if we both had our goggles on would we see and be able to open twice the bubbles. The answer is yes. Yes, you can. When they decided to go for the achievement I would grp with them, and they were able to take both mine and her bubbles...I did not try with more people but I bet it would work with any number of people grouped...fish food for thought

I didn't find anyone to have mentioned it here but if your guild hasn't completed Pescatore Pandaren, Hyper-Compressed Ocean does add to your progress if used in Pandaria uncorrupted zones (all except BfA version of the Vale). 25k fish isn't an easy goal for post-Pandaria guilds. Now you can help your guild even while camping a worldboss!

I fished up a Cernia da 21 kg using a Oceano Ultra Compresso. I think it's likely that you can catch these rare weighted fish for Questo non è scappato using this toy. I placed the toy in the water on Jaguero Island in STV. I was catching only fish that are common to the waters where I placed the toy, so I'm not sure if the toy's loot table contained the 47 Pound Grouper just because it was in the water or not. It could be that these fish are only on the toy's loot table if you place it in waters where you can already catch these rare weighted fish.

Managed to fish up Emblema di Margoss with a level 10 Tauren Paladin on Spirit Rise using the Oceano Ultra Compresso while waiting for the Zepplin. You can use the toy without learning fishing, took ~10 casts

I just tested out a couple hundred casts and it does not appear that you will catch Shadowlands fish from this. It will also not give you levels for Shadowlands fishing. Looks like we will have to get our levels the normal way of going to lakes again for this expansion.

Yeah doesn't seem like you can get Shadowlands fish from this. Would be nice if they fixed that since this thing was so hard to obtain..

I've found that if you place the ocean on top of a body of water then you will catch the fish from that water instead of getting random fish like normal.
This works in Shadowlands too, only way I've figured out how to catch Shadowlands fish from it.
It's not super useful, as you need some water to place it on which you could just fish from without the ocean.
However, I find it much easier to click on the ocean to catch fish rather than having the click the lure that shows up at a random location everytime.
Might be my imagination, but it seems faster to fish through the ocean too.

A note on farming this. If you farm as a group, each person with the goggles will spawn an orb, so you can spawn 5 orbs at a time and really cut down on time. Note that the orbs are not multi tap, so first person to tap it gets the fish. I found this extremely helpful in helping other people get the ocean after i found mine.

Suprisiginly, this can be used to fish up the Lurker Below in Serpentshrine Cavern. Useful on alts you forgot to learn fishing on.

I have a question that I'm hoping someone can answer. Does this drop event fish? If I cast this before the booty bay fishing contest, would it drop Spigola Screziata if I'm fishing in it? I don't see why it wouldn't, right? The game treats it like a regular fishing pool and if you're in Stranglethorn and have a legit pool, you have a high chance of catching this?

Does that mean I can cast this far away from everyone and not have to fight over pools during the contest and never run out of pools?

Interesting thought. I'm too scared to test it and miss my chance this week on the achievement but if someone does the contest regularly, maybe you can test this out? This would give you an advantage in the contest, correct?

Tried using this inside the Blackrock Caverns dungeon and got the error message, "There aren't any fish here." That might be the first time I've gotten that error using this toy, I think.

I was flagged for PVP (got to close to an enemy town, war mode toggled off) and used this toy. After the timer ran down and I became un-flagged, I could no longer interact with it. just fyi

I almost opened a ticket because I never received an item in my bags or mail.

Once you complete the achievement, the Hyper-Compressed Ocean is automatically learned, in your toy box and ready to use. You do not receive any item to click on.

I got it. Tried to use it in raid. It works! Inside Tempest Keep, while listening to Kael'thas.

Sometime it bug out, so if it become unclickable, just /reload.
Sometime it fish nothing.

Not working today in Dalaran, Broken Isles. Left- or Right-Clicking -> There are no fish here. Casting "Fishing" -> "Your cast did not land in fishable water."

I caught Cassa di Galleggianti Rimorchiatori from Oceano Ultra Compresso and also 3 secret fish for Pesce Segreto di Meccagon.
Update: I also caught Carpa Koi Runica Contaminata, which got me the achievement Un lancio fuori dal comune.

Edit: Tried again today and no Dragonflight fish were being caught so not sure what's going on with it :/

Can confirm (after several attempts) that you can catch Dragonflight fish ONLY INSiDE the Il Grande Drospo's cave at /way 82.2 73.2 in Pianure di Ohn'ahra.
Also tried fishing in Valdrakken and all other open world areas in the Dragon Isles, NONE gave me Dragon Isles' specific fish, got all kinds of fish instead.

I love that toy. Something I enjoy doing, is enlightening stormwind fountain/AH/bank area with it. I log 10 to 20 characters there, use this toy in different places around the fountain and bank and AH, and it's so pretty ! The Ocean stays even if you unlog or leave so with many reroll you can summon it at a same spot and enjoy it's light !

Can confirm that I fished from this inside Amirdrassil, the Dream's Hope raid and was able to get Dragonflight fish from it. Could be related to the fact that there are pools within the raid that you are able to fish from.
