Kill the raven flying above the chest that is holding the key. The raven that has the key shows the buff "holding keys". You can also see the key dangling from it's claws.

Cassa del Mercante is in Drustvar Corlain on Kul Tiras Isle at 25.75 19.95.
To open the chest you have to find Chiave del Mercante, which drops from Corvo Insaziabile flying above the treasure.

Coordinates: 25.8, 19.9 - Cassa del Mercante - North of Corlain

To get to Cassa del Mercante, cross Corlain and stay on the road while passing "Hocking's Plot". Go straight on at the crossroads and you will see an overturned scale with the chest in front of it. To open the chest you need the Chiave del Mercante, which you can get by killing Corvo Insaziabile those flying around the chest.

This event awards pet tokens. Because that's how you show yourself to be a friend to animals - shoot some ravens, rip open their guts and fish around for any keys they might've swallowed.

Can I delete the key?

I tried this out with an alt I dont have OCD attachment to.
And it seems Blizz has fixed it. I killed the raven with the key and opened the chest. Afterwords the key automatically vanished from my inventory and the chest wasnt there anymore. I tried to kill another raven with a key and he didnt drop one.

So because the key and the chest vanished, I conclude, that its 99% save to delete the key, if you still have it with your main. Of course considering you already opened the chest with this char, but Im pretty sure you did if youre looking this up. :)

About me: I just deleted it now.

Edit: After reading all the comments here, I assume you probably killed at least 2 ravens with a key before opening the chest and got 2, because its not unique. 1 remained after opening the chest. Well, whatever. I have just deleted mine anyway. :)
