Don't bother if you are hated with BootyBay. Noone to give the quest to, as it's supposed to be the Herbalist.

EDIT:

The NPC you need is Flora Silverwind located at 41.99 74.65.

Least you need is Neutral with Booty Bay which you can obtain by doing the repeatable quest Traitor to the Bloodsail

Quest reward is 700 Artifact power and some gold.

Can be looted multiple times. But the quest is unique (not repeatable). So when you turn in the quest, all compasses are destroyed in your inventory.

On which islands can pirates appear? Have not seen any for weeks now... still need this Broken Compass....:(

Just adding my experience from today. Got this from Rotting Mire, and I believe the only Pirate rare that was killed was Shipless Jimmy, Jimmy il Senza Nave. A broken compass might explain why he's Shipless?

There seems to be multiple rares to get this from. I obtained mine from Crestfall with Pirates. Only named pirate killed was Navigator Franklin.

I just got the item. I did Rotting Mire with Pirates.

Killed a couple of elite pirates and 2 rares. One was a regular rare Freebooter Dan, the other an elite rare Jaime the Cutlass. Hope that helps someone.

Once the Bussola Rotta drops from pirates, it goes into your inventory. You have to travel to Booty Bay and turn it into Flora Ventargento. She's the Herbalism Trainer and is found inside a shop at the center of the upper-tier. If you're in a nearby building, it can be confusing because the question mark (for the completed quest) can seem like it's in the same building. Coordinates: 42.0, 74.6. Since it's Booty Bay, none of the NPCs will give you directions.

I got the Bussola Rotta in Isolotti Stagnanti. You'll have to kill a lot of pirates. I found pirates near the shore, often in the shade. Of course they were guarding Treasure chests, but the compass isn't in a chest.

Finally got the damn thing after 30+ Islands of Rotting Mire with Pirates... ridiculous how low a drop rate these quest items are. Just Carapace left, and I've yet to see Nerubians up in a very long time... :/

Seeing a lot of post about Shipless Jimmy and this item. Just to confirm: This CAN drop from Rotting Mire with pirates, even if Jimmy isn't present. Just got it after god knows how many attempts .... the island it finally dropped off wasn't one with Shipless Jimmy. Can't remember what other rares were present.
