This bomb is so cheap it is very very useful in PvP. They are the key to kill casters. Save them up for raiding as they are very useful for silencing bosses.

It is not cheap at all, no. Especially not if you actually want to use them.
But, and that is important - they dominate any tight fight. As soon as 3+ (or so) Casters are in one spot, the tactical damage an Arcane Bomb can do is amazing.

As I said in the post on the recipe, this has multiple times won the Battleground for me. Bad flag-defend, 2 Mages, 1 Priest and 1 Shammy ganking on me and a Druid. Arcane Bomb, winning is entirely possible.

Just pricy to make. I guess if you're a die-hard Engineer you don't need Arcanite for say a Reaper or something, so these are the way to go.

The reason while this item is hardly used (in general) is because 1) the mats are too expensive and 2) it requires the user to stand still while casting. It's more of a novelty item for the obscenely rich, if anything.

I would recommend Ez-Thro Dynamite II as an alternative. It basically does the same thing, and lighter on your wallet.

So rediculessly expensive it's sad. I'd rather lose 5 HKs or a match or 2 of WSG than use one of those.

all of this you mention, you're forgetting the element of surprise, this things are so rarely used (infact ive never seen one used) that if there were shamans and priest all over the place, a 5 second silence would pretty much confuse them all and leave them wondering what the hell just happened rather than thinking about war stomping and NS heals.

Am talking about the average player here, your super pvp leet super geek would maybe just instinctively know what to do mind :P but dont underestimate the power of surprise!

R-A-I-D ! chances are there will be at least 1 other engineer in a 10 man raid group. DPS boss and shut up the annoying mob casters. Thorium is easy to mine. arcanite is a pain to get but worth it but worth it. Keep your eyes open on the AH for arcane crystals at a decent price. Have your guildies keep their eyes open too.

Do these bombs suffer from diminishing retunrs at level 70, like other bombs/grenades?

Total mats will create four (4) Arcane Bombs;
1 Arcane Crystal
3 Thorium Ore
1 Runecloth
1 Ironweave Spider silk

Plus the Arcanite Transmute cooldown of a kind Alchemist.

as for the use of these, i've found it very much depends on the situation.

Don't go spamming it because it is a waste, but if you see some of your teamates struggling at a base/flag with a bunch of overpowered casters, bomb them and all your team will get a simultanious chance to take control of the fight, while all the enemy a left thinking, "5 sec silence wtf?!?!, :-D

on the times that it has worked for me i loved it :-)

What if you dropped this during an 'All-in' call during AV? You have like twenty people all in one small room trying to kill a boss, i'm going to get the mats and try this simply out of the hilariousness that might insue!

Very useful , especially if you are blood elf...
1 Throw arcane bomb ( silences targets for 5 sec )
2 Then cast Arcane Torrent ( silences targets for 2 sec )
That means casters will be silenced for 7 seconds :-)

I've used these to great effect throughout BC, and when I played it, WOTLK. 5 seconds is a lot of time, especially for a Ret Paladin.

Confirmed, This does scale with spell power, feels like a 1:1 ration possibly .75:1 I have hit a healer for 5k with this.

Update: 3.3.5 It still scales 1:1 with spell power it hit for 6k on a holy pally

I suggest you guys farm this recipe soon, come cata any and all of the dragons who drop this are being removed and the only ones left are taera and ysondre, who ysondre has you kill and their level 40. Farm now you'll regret it if you dont.

Absolutely overpowered for the pull on Heroic Valithria Dreamwalker. When the adds are grouped up, just throw one of these down, saves your healers a ton of mana, and your melee a lot of dps, from not having to interrupt.

Confirmed. This scales with spellpower I have 3455 spell power. Amazing for use on large groups as the silence will affect EVERY person in the blast radius (AV and IoC boss rooms as well as WSG flag room). Crits for roughly 3-6 damage on people in PvP gear ( drains 5k+ mana typically). It does suffer diminishing returns through when used with Silence.

Nerfed. Chance to be resisted when used on targets above level 60. Tested in PvP and PvE. Had to have been a stealth fix in the last week or two.

He meant that you don't even need arcanite to make things like the reapers, but you need arcanite for the bomb, which is kinda ridiculous

actually, he's trying to imply ( bare in mind, his post was made during patch 1.12 ) that if you are a die-hard engineer, that is, if your main character is an engineer and thats all you care about, then you do not need the arcanite on another character who has blacksmithing to craft ( what was at the time ) one of the best weapons the game has ever seen, the iconic Arcanite Reaper. ( which does indeed require arcanite bars... )

Typical.. they just can't have anyone getting a leg up on mages in this game even if you are prepared beforehand. First they nerfed the Free Action Potion to six seconds.. which is just a slap in the face.. and now they nerfed this. They should leave these recipes alone and allow those who actually seek them out and use them properly to benefit from their professions and other professions.

Not nerfed, as one person has stated. If it was resisted, then it was most likely the other player using an ability, that can happen with any spell or spell based item. These are amazing in rated BG's and I'm sure will continue to be beneficial in progressive raids too, as they were on Heroic Anub, and in ICC. I use them frequently when I find the mats cheap on the AH. It's a shame the recipe is practically removed, if anyone still has one I'm sure it's worth a small fortune.

Edit: In reply to my former comment, this is as of patch 4.1, nerfed for players above level 60. It is however amazing for twinks in that range, and is still "useable" by higher levels, so don't forget about this gem when you are working on Firelands progression, it may be just the bump you need ;)

This bomb is not useful for PvP anymore.
*Range is short.
*Cast time is long.
*Effect of the silence to player is 3 seconds.
You should use the other bombs than this.

on wowhead it says instant but on the official wow website it says 1.5 sec cast
