This item becomes available for purchase in your order hall after you have obtained Artifact Knowledge level 35 on a single character. You can mail this item to any character on your Battle.net account, but it is only usable once the recipient character has reached level 110.

Anyone not getting credit for using this book? I reached the required artifact research level. Bought a bunch for my alts, sent them, used them and not getting the level 30.

I was unable to use this on an AK 29 alt with 2 research work orders pending. Please be aware that 'already researched' in the tooltip includes incomplete work orders as well.

The Compendium is intended to increase your Artifact research level by a varied amount to get you to 30. This was supposed to take into account any notes you had in your bank, mail, inventory, and those currently being researched as well. So if you had one in your inventory, and one in being researched it was suppose to take you to 28, so that when the current ones are used you are brought to 30.

If you had two pending or being researched right now, then the compendium would take that into account and only get you to as high as 28, having you wait until those current notes are completed to catch you up to 30.

Now working as intended!
This has thankfully received enough attention and was hotfixed on 2017.05.15
Buy compendium, mail to alt, use on alt, and happily recall the bug that once was as your alt soars to AK30.

The compendium had worked on a fourth alt who is freshly level 110 and had NOT completed any artifact knowledge quests (Concentrarsi sui libri and Utilizzo della conoscenza perduta). Upon using this item, I received completion credit for both achievements (Artefatto Artificiale & Parte della storia) and did not need to complete Utilizzo della conoscenza perduta in order to place work orders for Appunti sulla Ricerca dell'Artefatto above level 25. However, my fifth alt was unlucky and encountered this bug again.

UPDATED WITH RESPONSE FROM GM:

I've read over your ticket and there is a bug with this time right now that is requiring it to be used twice to actually work. Something about the new version of the Compendiums require that the quest Using Lost Knowledge be completed before they will work.

There is someone looking into that now...

She's refunded my order resources that were taken as part of the error but until there is a hotfix it seems this is still a confirmed bug.

Original post: I sent this item to a freshly 110 alt. Upon using it, the first artifact knowledge quest (Parlare con il vento in this case) was removed from the alt's quest log. Additionally, the quest Utilizzo della conoscenza perduta became available from the artifact knowledge researcher and the alt was able to complete it after starting a work order for Appunti sulla Ricerca dell'Artefatto.

However, the following issues seem to have come up:

Hovering over the tooltip in the upper left corner of my artifact weapon does not show any artifact knowledge
Artifact power items only have the base amount of power and seem unaffected by my supposed level 30 artifact knowledge
The achievements for artifact knowledge 10 and 25 (Artefatto Artificiale & Parte della storia) are not flagged as complete
The artifact information books like Tomo degli Antichi are not updated after using this item

So you need to do the introduction quest for artifact knowledge research to be able to get the level increase from the book.

I tried this process again on another character, this time having him complete that first artifact knowledge research and the associated quest. Unfortunately, the results seem to be similar in that he is behaving as if he has artifact knowledge 1 instead of 0. I repeated the process one more time on an alternate character with artifact knowledge level 27 and it worked as intended.

I have submitted a ticket and will edit this comment when I receive an answer. Best bet is to hold off on using this for characters below AK 26 for now.

OK. So I attempted to use this book (I - VI) and got similar results to all of you. Confused me because previous alts starting at level 0 didn't require any of the knowledge quests to be started before reading the I - V books or lower. Tried it on two toons: first toon without any quests. Didn't work. Wrote a ticket and the GM indicated it was my fault for not doing the Seeking Lost Knowledge quest and was nice and bumped my toon up to 29 and it will be 30 when the quest I started after the book failure completes. I got confused and assumed that he meant the beginning quest for the first level. Tried the second alt and did enough starting quests to get 2 levels then tried to read the book. Didn't work. Replied that my problem was not resolved. Second GM replied that I needed to do both the Seeking Lost Knowledge quest and the Using Lost Knowledge quests prior to reading the book. Apparently the GM gave my toon credit for completing those quests and sent me a new book saying that it should work now. (I haven't checked that yet and will append this entry after checking). This time I looked up the quests on this, our favorite resource, and realized that the quests are the ones you get from Khadgar after reaching level 25 knowledge in order to continue on to 26 and beyond. If this is true, then the game is requiring you to somehow reach level 25 so you can get these quests because they're not available below level 25, but you can't do that without having a toon that is below level 35 knowledge because the vendor only sells the set of books that is for 5+ below your highest knowledge level.

I think there's something wrong with the mechanization of this catch-up mechanism. No indications quest or warning text-wise that you can't use the book or you are not eligible. Also why sell a book for levels 1 through 30 when you expect everyone to stop and do an interim quest at level 25? Either break it up to two volumes; I - V and VI - whatever, or get rid of the interim quests at level 25 knowledge. I would prefer only one book purchase for 1000 resources as it is now but we'll see what the devs do to correct this.

Also, @e5ordie, neither of my GMs said anything about this being a bug so I'm assuming that the word hasn't got around to all the CSRs due do this being such a new issue. After all, we're on the bleeding edge of this thing.

Logged back on and checked: the new book in the mail worked but apparently only because the toon was credited with quest completion. Stay tuned.

There seems to be a glitch with this item when using it on fresh Level 110 alts.

The cause isn't for sure, but *supposedly* a bug is making it so you must use 2 of these items for it to unlock (documented here). I haven't purchased another Compendium to test this yet, but I probably should.

It's a very new problem, as most players (as of posting this) are just hitting Artifact Knowledge level 40.

Other possible issues include not having done the "Power is Knowledge" quest/subsequent work order before attempting to use this item, and/or it's possible that you cannot boost above AK 25, since there is a quest to unlock levels 26 and beyond.

If that's the case, I hope Blizzard does some tooltip changes, because anything above Compendium: Volumes I-VI (boost to AK: 30) should still boost you to 25, then require the quest to boost the additional levels. If nothing else, at least let it boost to 25 and call it a day.

I've submitted a ticket; hopefully I hear back soon. Best of luck, kiddos. But for now, I wouldn't advice shelling out 1,000 OH Resources on an item that is bugged. If you have a character who can buy a Compendium: Volumes I-V (level 25), give that a shot instead. I haven't heard of issues with that yet, but I could be wrong.

Make sure your toon does the quest to boost AK potential to 50.

Bugged out for me too. Had to mail a 25 book over from one of my other alts before using this book succesfully gave me the AK 30.

Seems like your best option would be to mail a 25 book and a 30+ book over at this point in time, until it's fixed.

Here's what happened for me today. One alt with AK 28 and one with AK 26, both with 2 ongoing research jobs.

I had assumed it would take them to AK 30 with the research jobs intact.

Instead it took them to AK 28 and completed both research jobs.

So using the notes from the jobs allowed me to reach AK 30 and start 2 new jobs.

(I did not have enough order resources one one of them so had to complete some world quests to be able to start the new research.)

Need Artifact knowledge 35 to buy this

1. Talk to Khadgar and do quest Armies of Legionfall then Assault on Broken Shore.
2. Next is quest Seeking Lost Knowledge
3. Delivering Lost Knowledge (on your class hall at artifact researcher)
4. Using Lost Knowledge (use 500 order to research one note)
5. Use Artifact Research Compendium: Volumes I-VI
6. Get Artifact Research Note, use it and voila

Your alt is just 5 levels behind your main character Artifact Knowledge (30 alt - 35 main)
Once you max your main AK to 50, alt can go up to 45 with Compendium.
Research artifact knowledge futher to get up 5 AK up on alts to be in pair with main char.

P.S.1 I've wasted 3 compendiums for nothing and decided to write this down, so none gets into similar position.
P.S.2 I've leveled rogue to 110, i didn't bothered doing quest Suramar , went for Assault on broken shore. Finish that quest . Didn't get Seeking Lost Knowledge quest next (after Assault on broken shore).With zero (0) AK picked up Compendium and learn it to 30 (main 35 atm).

Well, maybe not so much. Just had a new 110 alt, used compendium, no effect. Still at ArtKn like 5. Did more questing, etc.. nothing happening, so bought another on main and sent to alt.
This time it worked. So, still wasted 1k resources but at least it did finally work. Alt now has ArtKn 30.

The Artifact Research Compendium's that work for after 25 Artifact Knowledge, don't give you what they say unless you complete the quest to increase your ability to research more knowledge. Instead, it makes it so you can skip the quests to get that done and let you start researching at 26. Once you get 26 you can use another and get to whatever you are supposed to, but this is not mentioned in the tool-tip.
