Should point out just incase for the future. It say "Karazhan" on the item that means if you have it in your inventory and leave the Dungeon for any reason, the item will disappear.

I have found one of these on our last Kara run. Just before the Shade fight (so while still big) there was a rat on the ground. I just happened to move my mouse over it and saw the gear so I clicked it. This gave me one rodent and no one else could click on that particular one. So that means throughout the instance you will need to find them.

After we cleared the instance I ran around looking for more but couldn't find any so it might be that they despawn after the boss is killed or after so much time (similar to a Nightbane run). I'll have to test more things next week.

Rats are located after Curator, at the end of the hallway to Shade, one off to the right of the main platform, and on the main platform. You can kill them easy with AOE so be careful. They will eventually respawn though.

so the Rodents were clearly not in the game until Tuesday Dec 20th.
Whatever you do, do not change specs while mounted on the rodent as it will despawn and you can't get it back with no way to pick up another one if you've already jumped into the small world.
As a BM hunter you can't use a pet while mounted on the rodent so make sure to switch to MM or survival before you use the rodent, this should be the same for any class reliant on a pet, unholy demo frost etc.
