Looks like they used the same base model (without the armor, wings, or head) as Guardiano Alato, Alanotte d'Ossidiana, Pantera d'Onice Ingioiellata and the other 4 Pandaria JC mounts, maybe others. The animations are definitely 100% identical to the JC panthers, which share the majority of their animations with the Guardian and Nightwing, just different flying animations because they don't have wings.

Easiest way to tell, the paws have 4 claws and 4 toes on top, but 3 toes on the bottom. A strange mistake that got repeated in every single derived model except for the Winged Guardian (which just has glowy feet).

I know the Paladin mount is just another horse, but they get one for each spec, as well as some other classes. My monk feels slighted :/

Highly recommend Siege of Orgrimmar's Monk transmog set (Norm/Heroic) if you're looking to match the mount.

If anyone finds something better, lemme know... I'm crazy for transmog hunting.

Ever since Blizzard first showed a preview of Ban-Lu, something about his appearance was off to me and I was never able to pinpoint what it was. Now that I've obtained him and have been riding him around, it hit me: Ban-Lu doesn't appear to have ears!

If you idle on Ban-Lu, he'll start offering words of wisdom after a while. Here's a few I got after waiting an hour or so:

Ban-Lu says: Have I told you the tale of the hozen and the buttercream pie? Hmm... Perhaps best saved for another time.
Ban-Lu says: The best time to plant a tree is fifty years ago. The second-best time is now.
Ban-Lu says: A kite cannot fly unless wind blows against it, Grandmaster.
Ban-Lu says: Listen to all voices, Grandmaster. Surrounded only by those who share your views, your mind can never grow.

Ban-Lu will make comments about where he is in the world as well. When we landed in the water for a quest, he commented with "Ah, what a refreshing swim."

When sitting and going AFK, he will also say "The best time to plant a tree was 50 years ago. The second best time is now." Also "The lazy yak never gets washed."

Here are the comment I've gotten so far.

While swimming: Ah, a refreshing swim... Reminds me of the time I swam all the way to Kezan. Grandmaster Rochu wasn't happy about how shriveled his paws got!

***CLASS MOUNTS AND ALTS OF THE SAME CLASS***

In case you are wondering... if you have a lower level alt of the same class, you WILL be able to use the class mount across ALL alts of that class.

My level 70 rogue can use the class raven that I earned on my level 110 rogue.

This item is not available to players. Ban-Lu, Famiglio del Gran Maestro (the mount spell) is the actual quest reward.

You don't need to be Exalted with the Armies of Legionfall to get your class mount.
I got my quest on the broken shore while being Revered, after finishing Breaching the Tomb and both Pathfinder achievements.

Never seen this particular one before, my guess is it's tied to MW spec.
Update: I was wrong, it just happened again while I was in WW. Still strange that I've never seen it before today though.

If like me you use a macro to randomise your mounts you'll have found that the comma in the name breaks /userandom (or /castrandom)

Here's my workaround:

Edited for clarity.

The below is accurate for anyone who is completing this on an alt. You do not need to do any zones/reputations/quests to get this to work. This presumes that:

You have completed Legion questlines/required content on a main previously.
You have taken & skipped the questline to get to Dalaran from Orgrimmar/Stormwind.
You got into your Class Hall.

Since I did not find updated information for completing this on an alt easily, here is what I found, accurate as of the moment the changes were made to open all appearances to alts if a main completed the requirements in Legion (so 2023 and onwards, for sure):

Complete Uniting The Isles @ Khadgar in Dalaran - again, it is not required to have any reputation or do any pre-requisites. Go to Violet Citadel, take and turn in the quest instantly. You will need this to get WQs to do for your Class Hall campaign. You can do this at any point once you enter Dalaran.
Finish A Glorious Campaign achievement (your Class Hall campaign) - it takes roughly a couple of days, depending on your effort, but does have some timed missions you will have to do. Note that you can focus on the CLASS Campaign rather than the ARTIFACT Campaign - check your quest log to see where the quests fall if you are unsure. You will need to do the initial weapon quest and maybe a couple to set up your hall, but you don't have to get any reputation or go to any Legion zones to quest. I'd recommend doing all the artifacts for every spec just to have them and not get confused. Completing this should award you the Class Title at the end. If you did not receive it - you have not finished! Make sure you also complete the Heroic Weapons quest that pops up after the last quest of the campaign.
Start Legionfall Campaign @ Krasus' Landing in Dalaran. You can skip ahead and not do the scenario.
Grab the Champions of Legionfall quest from Maiev - if it is not available, you need to finish your CLASS campaign. You don't need to do any other quests in the zone.
Head to your Class Order Hall.
Take and complete the questline for the new champion offered to you.
Once completed, you might see a quest on the map in your hall, but you can't take it/find it - go to Legionfall in Broken Shore again, submit Maiev's quest, and you should be able to start your mount quest right there. The mount quest is picked up in Legionfall, but it can take a second to load in. If you are not seeing it, try relogging.
Do the quest to obtain your mount. This will unlock all mount options that exist.

Congrats, you are done! Some rewards may require extra effort, but all are available to get after these steps.

Ban-Lu (Mount)
Ban-Fu (Pet)
