Once every 3 minutes? Guess you'd also survive that hit by not wearing a *!@#ing crit trinket as tank. Such a trap.

I found this trinket extremely disappointing for my protection paladin, if I anticipate a big hit and use "ardent defender" cooldown to soak it, the trinket will proc anyway and go on cooldown even though ardent defender would save you from death at that moment. The trinket has 6 min cd while ardent defender has 1,3 min currently with my relics, therefore it would make more sense to spend shorter cd before the longer one, but you don't have a choice on that.

I tested it on breaking empowered bonds on Gul'dan heroic, my current tactic involved me breaking the bond solo with ardent defender up and immediately using light of the protector after to heal myself up.

I have no idea how does the trinket interact with purgatory and last resort talents, would be nice if someone tested this out.

I submitted suggestion to Blizzard about this trinket to not count as a death event a death prevented by ardent defender but I doubt it will get changed.

Having just got this the other day on my Demon Hunter tank main, I can confirm that in the vast majority of situations where Last Resort would have saved your life, this trinket will also save your life. I talented into Soul Barrier instead and am finding it to be incredible when combined with Fracture and Fallout talents, especially for tanking those very large trash packs in EN that could sometimes almost instagib you during a momentary downtime on Demon Spikes (pre 7.1.5). This trinket basically allows you to get the effect of Last Resort without talenting into it. Yes you will take the prevented damage as a DoT, but its a 10 second DoT and if you weren't going to be healed in 10 seconds, you were probably going to wipe regardless of whether you survived that particular hit or not.

Only thing to keep in mind is that Last Resort will prevent ANY hit from killing you no matter how big it is, because it actually prevents the attack from taking place and just puts you to 30% health and turns on Metamorphosis, whereas this trinket simply will absorb the first 2million ish damage from the attack that would have killed you. So you will still die if you get hit by something that is supposed to kill you outright. I.e. it can't be used to break mechanics like Last Resort can, but for the majority of situations it makes Last Resort a lot less worth taking.

Also, you will know when it has been activated because it has a fairly loud and unique sword slicing sort of sound that plays.

Gotta wonder who designs these things. As in, what designer thought crit would be a good passive for a tanking trinket? Assuming you are concerned with survivability (why else would you equip this?), critical strike sims out as one of the worst stats for every single tanking spec. It's almost like their intention was to make this a very 'meh' trinket off an early boss, one that you would only reluctantly equip, and one that you'd still hope to replace asap.

Blood DKs - This will proc SEPARATELY from Purgatory, so you basically are allotted an extra death, beyond the proc from Purgatory.

In case you were wondering, this trinket procs before Purgatory.

I was lucky to grab a 890 version of this one. The consensus among the theory crafters is that there's no good trinkets in NH for a tank, and I entirely agree in terms of received damage. But - oh boy - when you see this specific trinket's debuff on you, you know it saved your life. As a VDH, it procs separately from Last Resort so you have twice self-battle rez in the same figth. Really not shabby.
Even if you say "you or your healers are doing something wrong if you need this", in a real-time play, crap happens, and happens all the time.
In a M+ run you can, after triggering this debuff, switch trinkets for a more "static" one till the debuff wears off.
