Seems to be a rare drop chance, much like the clusters from the Legendary ring questline in Warlords of Draenor. As of this time, I've only seen one drop out of 6 boss kills (off Krosus to be specific), and it contained 3 Nightshards for me. Not sure yet if it can drop more or less, but please comment if it does and I'll update this post.

Got lucky and got two of them tonight off the first 3 bosses in Nighthold. Opened them and they both contained 3 Nightshards each.

Seems to be the common number to contain 3 Nightshards, though they may be able to drop more or less, it is still unconfirmed.

It is also not confirmed that you can get one of these AND a Nightshard off the same boss kill.

Drops from normal or higher difficulty Nighthold bosses and contains Scheggia della Notte, of which 20 are required for the artifact quest Rocca della Notte: Nella Rocca della Notte.

I got one from Spellblade Aluriel, it contained 3 shards.
