I saw a warrior with the skin, so I asked him where he got it, he just said in the upper floor of neltharion's lair. It's kinda a "rare spawn" since I camped this for +- 1 week (not sure if there are any other spawn point for the skin, maybe there are)

Edit: I highly recommend you don't try to camp for this. All signs point to it not being released by Blizzard yet. All info regarding this skin, and skin for other classes/artifacts, are from Beta. I suggest you don't bother camping for this until there is concrete evidence for it being in the game.

Edit 2: I miss understood a quest chain that Kalecgos gave and it mentioned a hidden look. As Toroq said in the replies below that chain is the Balance of Power which unlocks a different look/color. So I just deleted what I wrote because it was irrelevant.

Edit 3: I strongly believe it is not a rare spawn or something like that, if it was someone would have found it by now. For all we know it's not even in the vault anymore and has nothing to do with that location. That info was from Beta and blizz changed a lot of things going live.

Edit 4: The new idea/hypothesis that is floating around is that this skin (along with some other ones) are attainable after a certain amount of artifact knowledge (the artifact research that we do). If this is the case then it'll require a certain amount of time until someone reaches that level and opens up a quest or some such.

I am crossing out the information below since it's pretty outdated. Not deleting it completely in case it'll serve some purpose in the future, in which case I'll uncross it.

This is all the info I've been able to gather from various sources. Please keep in mind a lot of this info is from beta version of the game and has not been confirmed for live. Full confirmation is screenshots and such. I will update when there is new info. Edit: I recommend you don't camp for this yet.

-Loot location is Neltharion's Vault (not lair) in Highmountain as mentioned by Gittum in his/her comment. (not confirmed for live, at least I haven't been able to confirm it)

-It seems to be on a long/random spawn timer, there has been no mention if you need to do certain things (quest/achievement/activity) for it to spawn.

-According to the info it spawns in a specific gold pile http://imgur.com/a/0IOvD (not confirmed).

-When it spawns all the warriors in the vault area will receive an emote saying: "You hear a strange roar from the cavern ahead." (not confirmed)

-There is no info regarding what level you have to be to see it. Some say you have to be 110 but this has not been confirmed either way.

Again, all this info is out-dated and not confirmed on live version of the game. I will update when I can.

So we finally know how to get the artifact appearance. Credits to all the guys who helped figuring this out. I updated my post accordingly.

Here is a step by step guide that worked for me:

Reach Artifact Knowledge level 5
Read the Saga of the Valajar tablet (right behind your AK research guy) image: http://imgur.com/6DDCKlF
~~Optional~~ Spec Protection. It is mandatory to see the appearance on the ground!
Jump to Thunder Totem and run to Neltharions Vault front entrance (Path of Huln, where the Hill Ettins are). Cords (44.5; 72.5) http://imgur.com/FM8cKna
Go forward into the cave until the zone changes to "Neltharions Vault" (just to make sure, the next step can already trigger in front of the cave)
If you see the chat emote "You hear a strange roar from the cavern ahead" carefully search all gold piles for your appreance (it can be on multiple locations, so search carefully) Emote: http://imgur.com/OCAwIBW My spawn: http://imgur.com/eNMjydY
If you do not see that emote, relog outside of the cave until you trigger the emote and see "true, false" in the macro below. Relog at the location of step 4. This can take quite some time!
If you do not see that emote, try visiting the cave the next day...

This blue post "kind of" confirms that relogging no longer works and you have only one chance per day. http://us.battle.net/forums/en/wow/topic/20749416613?page=11#post-204 (scroll down to bluepost if it opens at top). I crossed out all the outdated information about relogging. Multiple posts in that thread suggest, it's really simply daily RNG. So keep trying to get that roar!

Additional information:

I've read multiple reports of people finding the shield without getting the roar emote. I don't know how this happens and if they somehow triggered the event earlier and missed the emote back then. So if you're trying for some days, I'd suggest simply going in and looking around once in a while. When your macro returns "true, false" I would definitely search even without the emote, though this might not gurantee it's there.
The chat emote can be missed. Mine was at the top of my chat history, even before the guild message after logging in infront of the cavern. When your macro returns "true, false" the emote should've been there. Turning on sound helps too as you hear that "roar" the emote is talking about.
Multiple players reported in the comments that it can take quite some time relogging to trigger the event (even more than 4hours). It took me about 10 relogs without moving in and out of the cave, others reported 3-5. Possibly simply random. Keep trying, it should eventually work if you follow this guide.
Apparently it does not matter if you relog outside or inside of the cave. Although I had weird interactions with the quest status in the cave, which i had not when relogging outisde (false, false and then false, true then moving out but not when relogging inside). So I would still suggest you relog outside of the cave.
~~It might increase your chance of spawning, if you change zones after each relog. Log in, walk in the cave zone, walk out of the zone, log out. Rinse and repeat.~~

The quest Burning Plate of the Worldbreaker Available indicates if the apperance spawns and can be looted, while the daily quest Burning Plate of the Worldbreaker Denied apparently makes you unable to see/obtain it while it is true. These quests should trigger at the same locations the roar event can trigger, so only running them in the world isn't sufficient. They can only be used as an additional indicator.

This script can be used to check if any of these quests is completed (can be run via chat or in a macro):

/run print(IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44312))

If the macro returns "false, true" you won't be able to get it. You will only be able to loot it with "true, false", like this http://imgur.com/Tzug87O

There's a statue in Neltharion's Vault called the Grey One: Il Grigio It has some flavor about a warrior who rose up against Deathwing and was frozen in stone. There is an elite NPC verison of this statue that hasn't been found: Il Grigio and a spell to summon him: Liberazione del Grigio

Speculation is that somehow unpetrifying this statue and defeating it is what unlocks the ability to find the object with the Burning Plate, we just have to figure out how to do that.

Maybe we need to gather a scale from Nefarian or Onyxia? Because it says, "waiting to be reunited with a lost scale from the same father"

Neltharion (Deathwing) is the father of Onyxia and Nefarian ?
Maybe BlackWingLair is the place to go and defeat both dragons ?

While doing Weapons of Deathwing world quest in HM, found some clickable Ancient Neltharion Tablets in a cave. They all said same thing, but in draconic.

After googling, i found this. Im sure this MUST be somehow related - otherwise its a bit too random to just be placed there IMO:

I just obtained this item, you need to get your artifact research knowledge to 5 for the "roar" event to trigger before you enter Neltharion's Vault. After that, it is found in the same gold pile everyone in the beta found it in.

UPDATE: Been speaking to a fellow warrior whom had the same artifact research, but by testing the scripts above had True on one script, and False on the other.
I'm theorizing that the TRUE quest is the indication you have the research needed. and the FALSE could mean it has a daily chance to pop for the warrior? (NEEDS TESTING!)

SECOND UPDATE: We just checked the quest scripts and it turns out I have TRUE on
/run print(IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44311)) and FALSE on /run print(IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44312)) whereas the other warrior had the opposite and cannot obtain the appearance nor get the "roar" event.

THIRD UPDATE: Spoke to the warrior I tried to help, he told me he got the roaring to start by just constantly logging out and back in again to try and trigger the "roar" event.

FOURTH UPDATE: BEFORE YOU LEAVE SKYHOLD! PLEASE: Read the Saga of the Valajar (Big stone in the middle behind researcher.) Another thing to add, The Grey One is a Red Herring (Misdirection.)

FINAL UPDATE: Ascar has made a really good how-to for this appearance, please vote it up! :-) Also I will be doing a name change as I'm getting spammed out of my ears with questions ingame regarding this.

Long story short of how to get this artifact skin:

1 - Get artifact knowledge 5

2 - Go to Obsidian Outlook at the flight point. Use
/run print(IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44311))

~~If the return is false, relog. If true, then your skin is in the cave at one of several locations~~

The macro of:

/run print(IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44311))
/camp

is a time saver. Get spamming boys!

Edit: YOU CAN NO LONGER RELOG - Blizzard changed it a while ago so you only get one chance a day. Good luck people.

Once you get AK5 you can trigger 44312 by entering Neltharian's Vault . I believe 44311 shows when the shield has spawned.

You can use this macro to check each flag:
/run print("44311:", IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44311))
/run print("44312:", IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44312))

So far people have got them to trigger by logging in and out, but logging out will cause 44312 to go false, so there has to be a better way of triggering it more consistently.

If 44312 goes to false, you can just leave through the main entrance and enter again and it will go true again. Trying to get 11 to go true as well atm, without logging in and out so people can replicate easier.

EDIT: I got the burning plate to spawn!

Okay, so I started by getting AK5 and going to Neltharian's Vault. I used my macro and both were false. As I entered, 44312 turned true: interesting... I tried logging in and out a few times, but all this did was turn 44312 false immediately.
I realised that if you entered in through the main entrance, it would turn 44312 true. If I logged out inside the cave, it would go false again, but if I logged out outside of the cave, it stayed true.

I got 44312 to true and went outside to the Obsidian Overlook FP (for convenience) and logged in and out. 44312 stayed true; 44311 stayed false. After a few 5 minute 'logged out' sessions (totalling around 1 hour) when I logged in, 44312 was false and 44311 was true.

I went to the looting spot and the shield was there. 44312 was false when I looted. I think 44312 is the trigger (not the only requirement) and 44311 is a "is the shield there?" check.

Got this today myself after 5 relogs at the FP before hearing the roar emote and getting 44311 = true. When I entered the cavern I couldn't see the weapon because I was in Fury spec. Switched to Prot spec at the gold pile and it appeared right in front of me. You MUST be in Prot spec to be able to see and loot the shield.

Apparently the dragon roar and emote sometimes just don't happen sometimes. I had no roar or emote and was able to find the shield chilling near the drogbar statue.

/run print(IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44311)) Stayed true across multiple logins, so you probably don't have to worry about accidentally resetting it back to false.

I got mine today. Interestingly enough I didn't get the emote but the 11 check came back true and sure enough it was there.

Edit: Took me 5 or 6 times logging off at the FP to trigger it.

I guess I'll add my comment here to say that I got it in this method stated in the guide above. Do everything here and you will eventually get it.

I tried moving a lot outside and next to the torch but in the end it doesn't matter because both count technically far enough away for it to phase in but being close enough to the item.

Upon the item spawning there will be a "Roar" this is very loud and very distinct that it is coming from the cave (it sounds like a dragon - probably nelfarion from the story on the tablet). If you do the macro to check it should be true at this point. I went nuts when I heard this because I was 2 hours in and about to give up and go to bed.

Then I scrambled like an idiot to all the gold piles.. and there she was.

Macro popped when I got into the vicinity Mind you, I farmed and re-logged and did that whole song and dance for hours and gave up and moved on, so I was pleasantly surprised when this macro gave me a reason to run into the cave.

The roar (Neltharion's?) is incredibly LOUD. You cannot miss it, but it immediately cut short when I zoned into the cave. You should hear the roar outside upon login. Afterwards, entering and checking the flags should come back with true, false.

Hey everyone! Here's my experience obtaining this skin :) Here's some quick info about my character: Level 110, 20 traits in protection, artifact knowledge 5, loot specialization set to protection, emerald nightmare cleared on normal, and campaign finished. 853 ilvl.

I logged out near the torch at the entrance where I was not in the cave "zone text" yet. I had to relog for 45 mins before I received the roar emote and the script came up as true. I found mine in the gold pile right before you reach the one in the beta screenshot/where another world treasure chest is found. Hope this helped!

Ended up receiving it after 30 minutes. Judging by the other comments in this thread, it can be entirely random when you actually trigger the shield to appear.

I was logging in and out just outside the cave, running back into the cave to check for the roar, and then leaving the cave and relogging. When I finally heard the roar, I was still outside to cave.

To anyone relogging inside the cave, I would try doing it outside. It may not matter, but until we have more information, this is what got it to work for me. Best of luck! Keep trying!

Should also note that I was Prot when i got the Roar and then switched to Arms to kill things easier, ran back and forth for 10 mins and couldn't find it! left the area, switched back to prot and found it in 30 seconds.

I also just got this.. Finally. Much like most of you i camped in the first few weeks to get it only to realize it wasn't there yet. I've not done emerald nightmare, I have cleared all mythic dungeons however. I did the standing outside beside the flight master at the Obsidian area.
It seems to be a luck based thing, not hugely sure yet though. Only requirement i can see is that you need the AK 5.
Oh, it was also on the gold pile to the side of the main one everyone found it in on bata.

Can confirm Ascar's post, but I'd suggest reloging at the torch near the entrance point. I actually was checking my map during the relog and i managed to green screen it. Next thing I know, I closed the map, heard the roar, saw the emote and went in. The item was lying on the ground but on the pile next to the one in the beta, up the road.

To add to the collection of anecdotal experiences:

Originally, I got AK5 and went right into Neltharion's Vault and spent about 30 minutes. Oops. You need to make sure to right click the item in your inventory to actually upgrade from AK4 to AK5.

I was using this macro:

/run print(IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44311))
/logout

I went through the main entrance and jumped down into the water. I used the above macro for about 2 hours without much luck. I gave up and went to bed.

The next morning, I repeated the above process for about 30 minutes before coming to Wowhead and checking out some of these other comments.

I hearthed, flew back to Obsidian Overlook, and then started running the macro directly on top of the landing point for the flight path. After about 5 attempts, I heard the dragon as soon as I logged in and the macro started reporting true. I ran into the cave and I found it in one of the few gold piles.

I'm not sure if there are better ways of doing it, or if the 5 attempts was just luck. This is just my experience and I hope it helps someone.

I was in prot loot, prot spec, AK5, and honored with Highmountain.

I was just going to do a world quest in Highmountain and went into Neltharion's Vault and it was there D: ! and what gave me the hint that the item was inside was a weakaura that somebody linked here in wowhead.

I just found the plate on Trollbane server EU at 23:45.

I had the emote pop while i was in the Neltharions Lair instance to complete the snail achievement, went out and ran to the vault to check and there it was, on the very pile of gold that there has been images of previously.

Current artifact knowledge when this happened was 5.

Edit: I had also read the tablet in the order hall, if this has some triggering to it.

Could anyone confirm if they've been able to get it on NA after the 27th Maintenance?

Edit @ Wednesday, September 28, 2016 12:05 AM PST: It appears that the relog trick no longer works. Before September 27th Maints, relogging would make quest #44312 'reset', as in go from 'true' to 'false'. It seems this is no longer the case, as quest #44312 is permanently stuck on 'true' now, wether I log out in or outside the cave.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but as of right now, I'd suggest people don't waste their time relogging until further testing can be done tomorrow, to see if quest #44312 goes back to 'false' after the usual Daily Reset.

If it does, and it turns back to 'true' after walking inside the cave, then this is now a time-gated event you can only attempt once per day. I'll edit this comment once I've tested it, and report back with what I find.

After walking inside the cave, #44312 turned 'true', while #44311 remained 'false'. So I relogged outside AND inside the cave, and nothing changed. #44311 was false, and #44312 was true. So, it appears this has been hotfixed. It is a daily check now, relogging does nothing. Sorry folks.

So here is the story and the tests I did on getting mine (28th September 2016 - 16:57 German Time):

I landed at Obsidian Overlock, Highmountain for a World Quest below in Suramar.

Suddenly I hear Deathwings roar and a emote comes up in my chat.

"You hear a strange roar from the cavern ahead."

And to make it clear: I was in my Arms Warrior Spec at this moment, but I kinda suspected the shield to be waiting for me inside. I ran in and checked the gold piles but couldn't see it anywhere. So I swapped to Tank Spec and it appeared right in front of me.

I quickly called our guilds Main Tank warrior in TeamSpeak to grab it, but sadly he wasn't able to see it (while in Tank Spec). So I assume that it's a personal thing...

End of story: I got a hidden appearance for my second spec.

TLDR: Fly to Obsidian Overlock and check if the Emote comes up. If it does, swap to tank and head in!

/run AddTrackedAchievement(11152) - Complete 30 dungeons using a hidden artifact appearance. (This achievement does not display correctly)

Been camping this for a while now, with the relog and macro method. Nothing at all. whatsoever. Followed the guide and even have my artifact knowledge up to 5. This doesnt work anymore. Now I see that its a daily thing?

There is some misconception about the macros, from my understanding, and whether or not it is on a daily reset (I believe it is after the hotfix). If you use "/run print(IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44312))" and receive True, then you have already exhausted your chance for the item that day. If you see receive False, then go to the cave. Now if you use, "/run print(IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44311))" and receive True, the item will be available, if you receive False, try again the next day (when the first macro will appear False - e.g. you have not yet checked the reset for that day).

This is what I believe to be true after the patch last night, and from extensive personal testing (8 hours in) among reading many comments on youtube, wowhead, etc.

I was ported to the meeting stone where the macro showed that it should be there for me. So I told my group that I would get it out of the vault after the instance.
I did not hear a roar and there was no emote. (I am 100% sure because Plays.tv was recording the whole time and I just re-checked)

I had AK 5, AL 22, story lines done, reputation farm finished.

Just so everyone is aware the previous method of logging in and out at the cave entrance no longer works. This was finally confirmed by a blue post on the following forum. Apparently this was a bug, that was fixed earlier in the week.

Seems this is now a daily reset as people have speculated. Better to know now then for players to spend hours logging in and out. From my experience it did reset with the normal daily reset and I was able to check this using the 44312 script.

Just my two cents:

Today I hit AK5 and started spamming the macro, giving "False False". When I entered to the Vault, I heard the dragon and popped up the emote of the roar, so I started searching the gold piles. 30 minutes searching and still no shield, so I started to think "What if I can't see the shield if I'm in Arms spec?". I changed my spec and the plate spawned just at my side.

So, TL,DR: You can be in any spec to trigger the roar, but you still need to be in protection in order to see the plate

Got this today. My AK was six. I've been trying daily for about a week since AK 5. I nave no reps at exalted, but I am revered with Court and Highmountain.

Also, the macro ran false/false until I got into the cave. Once in the cave, I got the dialogue line about the roar. However, I did not hear any sound, possibly because of the ettin world quest dialogue still happening.

I just got this on Hyjal-PVE this morning. Was logged out right outside the cave...when I went in, I didn't see any kind of emote (Yes, chat settings are correct) and I figured..."Maybe I'm not seeing it because I'm not in the cave far enough." So I went in further...right after the first pack of kobolds on the left side, it was glowing, sitting in a pile of gold.

Don't hesitate to look, even if you don't see an emote.

You don't need to be at the main entrance, you can use the flight master to get to the backdoor (obsidian overlook). Check with macro there if you are eligible to loot.

I'm AK8 in 6 hrs. I did relogging thing before hotfix and since then been to Nellys Vault everyday and popped the macro, always showing false. I'm Revered/Exalted with all. This must be RNG like everything else in this game. Also got 12 days played without a legendary.

I am beginning to believe the shield is a lie. I have been at it everyday since I hit AK5, I am about to hit AK8 and still no shield. But, Blizz did curse me with the worst RNG in the game, so I'm certain to be readying for the new expansion by the time I either get a crack at the shield or obtain a Legendary.

I got my appearance tonight, 24 Oct 2016, on Bleeding Hollow at about 0350 MST. I'm at Artifact Knowledge 7, and have been checking for the appearance once a day by flying over to Obsidian Overlook in Highmountain for about a week now. When I landed at the Overlook, I got the emote ("You hear a strange roar from the cavern ahead." before even going inside, which was a first. I ran my macro, as linked above, and it actually showed up with False-True as the results, rather than True-True, which is supposed to indicate that the appearance is present. That made me wonder, but I went ahead and checked anyways, since I haven't gotten the emote before.

Heading in from the south by the Overlook, when the cavern opens up and you have the petrified drakes/eggs to the right, and a path with kobolds to the left, I went towards the Kobolds. On a ledge overlooking the cavern floor, I immediately noticed the plate sitting on a pile of gold - it's quite visible on the floor, looking exactly as it does when equipped. Coords for my pickup were 40.5, 50.8. I've uploaded my screenshot as well. You can generally feel safe that if it's present in the Vault, it won't be too hard to miss - the colors and design definitely stick out.

UPDATE: I GOT THE SHIELD

I got my hidden artifact skin today 11/18/2016 (my birthday) at 7:50pm EST on Thrall(US).
Everything I did up to getting it:
Needed to be above AK 5 - Found the shield at AK 14.
Read the tablet daily for about 10 days, then stopped reading it after a while.
I got the emote and the macro went off at the entrance closest to Thunder Totem. Not the flight path entrance.
It was in a gold pile that was very close to the gold pile of the original picture.

Days checking the cave: 52 days

Just hit AK 12 today. Been trying every day since 9/28/16. I've been reading the tablet each time prior to going and I check every gold pile regardless of emote/roar/quest macro.

Still absolutely nothing....

Just a little update, still no hidden skin. I have been doing the same thing each day and even started to check the cave regardless of the emote/roar/quest macros.

Hey guys, been following this post since they removed the log in/log out glitch, and at first thought what in the world am I doing this thing is not going to spawn.

However... Yesterday morning around 9AM UK time, I logged in, flew over to obsidian overlook flight path, in flight went and made coffee came back and the emote was on my screen and my Weak Auras 2 notification was bouncing. Went into the cave and found it.

I am going to answer some questions I have seen people post, and even myself had.

NO you do not need to read the stone sculpture everyday. Heck I didn't even do it for days prior up to me getting it.
You can use either entrance of cave, as I stated the back entrance by the FP works just fine, and right around the landing zone the emote will pop up, well at least did for me.

The ONLY real change I have had to my character in the past week was 2 days before hand I received my first legendary. (Yeah it's been a good week lol.)

Before entering the cave I checked my macros and got False and False
But when I entered the cave I got the emote!
So I jumped down into the water, killed a scorpion and saw my shield to the right!

I have artifact knowledge level of 14 and I've read every page of the history slab in Skyhold but every time I check the two quest markers (/run print(IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44311)) and /run print(IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44312)) ), they both come up false. I still have not seen the roar emote nor the item itself on the ground and I've been checking for weeks! I have no idea what else to check. Do I need Highmoutain to be exalted or something?

I can confirm that this is a daily chance. I just walked in to the cave this morning and was greeted by the achievement . So there is a hidden daily quest that you are doing everyday when you walk into the cave.

Burning Plate of the Worldbreaker Denied is actually treated like a regular daily quest by the game - I already got two achievements on my warrior because of it, 5 missioni giornaliere completate and Sono un abitudinario... the next day.
Already sent bug reports about both of them, so it may be patched someday.

None of the previous information I saw was true.

I did not get a roar.

Showed that the quest was active. I entered the cave, jumped down. There was no pile of gold. The image of the shield was propped up against some bones.

It returned true, and I went to the cave and got the item at about 20:15 Eastern (Local), or 17:15 Pacific (Server), at artifact knowledge 17, exalted with Highmountain.

HI THERE. Got mine yesterday afternoon with both roar emote and macro returned true false, after checking the cave every day for about 2 months now. You all gonna get it sooner or later, just make sure you ckeck everyday and hit the macro when u get in. Good luck!

A quick note for those who are going for this absolutely AWESOME artifact skin; do not log out inside of the cave. If you just log out inside the cave and don't actually go out, the shield will not appear even if it is your lucky day (Luckily I went out and it triggered the shield to appear when I entered the cave again). So go out, go back in and then try your luck! The best of luck to you all!

When is the Reset Timer on this start/end? I can't even find anything on this. I love how Vague Blizzard is when it comes to this hidden appearance.. At least with all the other classes you know what you have to do in order to get certain hidden appearances on different classes, yeah the journey to get those might be longer but at least you have insight and a goal to reach. this once a day chance is confusing. how can you tell when it has reset? Please can anyone help me out on this info, I've checked out all the other wow sites and even countless youtube videos and till no luck. I landed at Obsidian overlook today and went i entered the cave the screen glitched for a second like something was loading. Didn't get the roar and no AP appearance. Sure did get my hopes up though.

Also, has anyone confirmed that you have to read the AP notes in the class hall? If so, does this have to be done everyday?

AK21, 34 points on my shield, exalted with all factions, I read the tablet daily before i check, and still, no shield appearance. Am I missing something I am not aware of? Is it even possible to find it at this level of AK? Is there a way of tracking progress on things you need to complete to have the shield show up? Ran into the cave, saw/heard the roar, ran around for 10 minutes searching (as arms).

Finally fed up at the end of the ramp (near stone dragul) i switched spec to prot and BAM, right on the gold pile next to him.

Hopefully my panic saves some of you from your own.

Been going daily since Middle September. 35 AP in weapon, 21 Artifact knowledge. Still have never seen an emote or the shield and i check everyday. My question is, does having your weapon/shield transmogged affect it dropping? Thanks.

Summarizing post:

1. You need to go to check near the cave everyday (YOU HAVE A CHANCE ONCE PER DAY - Burning Plate of the Worldbreaker Denied is actually treated like a regular daily quest by the game)
If there is shield for you you will see emote, if not your daily achieve counter will go up (I'm always going to Obsidian overlook and running the macro, I also observe the daily quest achieve counter)

2. You can also check the cave on your alt, my guild mate confirmed that, he was near the cave on his druid and received the emote, then he re-logged to warrior, went to the cave and found the shield. SO QUEST AVAILABILITY IS ACCOUNT WIDE

3. Helpful macro:
"/run local Q,P=IsQuestFlaggedCompleted,print; if Q(44311) then P(' Shield Available') elseif Q(44312) then P('Try Again Tomorrow') else P('Head to the cave and try your luck!') end"

4.You don't have to read the AP notes in the class hall EVERY day as long as you did once after AP 5, many peeps confirmed that.

5.If you get the emote and/or positive answer from macro (near the cave) you need to be in PROTECTION SPEC when you are looking for shield.

6. Daily quests reset it's at 8/9am.

7. Logging in and out at the cave entrance has been fixed

Got it today (12-19-2016) Here are some notes:

I *did* read the tablet in my class hall before going in today. I didn't every day before this, but happened to today.
I *did* go the "back way." (FP at Obsidian Overlook)

Once I landed at the overlook I got the emote. The shield was in a pile of gold in the main corridor. (Not on bones or anything)

Just got mine today still couldn't believe it really happened. So, what I did was taking the flight path to "Obsidian Overlook"(it's way easier than running through a bunch of ettins) And as soon as u get there. If the shield is up, there would be a message telling u "You heard a strange roar from the cavern ahead." and all u need to do is go inside and check the gold piles and find it. Took me about a month.

Finally got it as of today. Tried since the day after it got hotfixed.

Landed at Obsidian Overlook and instantly got the text "You hear a strange roar from the cavern ahead."

Then shortly after.

"Greatfather Winter yells: Happy holidays!"

Macro came back with "Shield Available".

I went in and found it on a gold pile, though I have heard that people are finding it next to some bones below so I would have checked there as well.

The reason I mention the Greatfather winter thing is that I read someone else also got that message before getting the shield. It may have something to do with getting the shield and the drop rate may have increased throughout winter or something. Yesterday, I picked up and currently have (not yet completed) the quests:

"The feast of Winter veil"
"Treats for Great-father Winter"
"You're a Mean One..."

That was the only thing different from my daily try, may have just got lucky and i'm randomly guessing the shield is around a 0.5-1% drop chance based on my tries.

12-26-16, I've been checking every day for the past close to 2 months now and still no shield. I've heard the roar 3 times. twice once I heard it and only found 2 undead warriors leaving the place. the 3rd time i heard the roar I found the place where it might be but not. just a monch of dead colbolds. and a blood elf calling for a ride out of the place. Now from what i've read and gathered isn't the roar just for you and not for anyone else?. Then if thats true then why? Why Blizz? why?. My main spec is Prot. My AK is level 12 almost 13. Now if this is some kind of bug then they can can do what i think of it. now every time I go into the cave to check since I check like 3 times a day and i kill any alliance I see. any level. Why rant even more.

Hey guys, small update from me, FINALLY GOT THE SHIELD! on 27.12.2016, I've been checking the cave since fix.

A Few important things:

I was in ARMS spec when I took flight path to Obsidian Overlook
When I land there I didn't see the emote, however I noticed that my daily counter didn't go up (as usual when shield is not available)
I checked the MACRO and BAM it told me that shield is available :) when I changed the spec to PROT - I SAW THE EMOTE! and shield was on one of the gold pile.

It should be noted that, once you have unlocked one hidden artefact appearence, it is possible to unlock (and equip) hidden appearances for the 2 other weapons you haven't unlocked yet.

To do that, you need to equip the weapon for which you have unlocked a hidden appearence and fulfill the conditions allowing to unlock further tints for that weapon (complete 100 Dungeons; complete 200WQ; earn 1000 HKs).

Once you unlock a tint for the hidden weapon available to you, it will unlock the tint AND the skin for the other 2 weapons, even if you haven't unlocked them yet. The only tint that won't be available is the one that comes with the hidden item itself (until the Gods of RNG bless you with a lucky roll).

Important remark: to get credit for Dungeons, WQ or HK you need to have equipped the weapon you have actually unlocked. For example, if you manage to unlock the purple tint of Spadoni dei Valarjar by scoring 100HK and you do WQ with it to get the blue tint, you won't get credit towards the 200WQ (unless you have actually unlocked Ammazzadraghi).

In that way you can somewhat offset a particularly unlucky RNG streak, which I am still experiencing in getting Impugnatura del Dio-Sovrano (after running dozens of HOV) and Piastra Ardente del Devastamondi (after reaching AK 25 and still visiting the cave everyday 4 months into the expansion...)

I made a big deal of retrieving my account information and pw JUST so I could log on and share my part of the story with my fellow warriors.

I've been farming the cave every day since the fix. I might have missed one or two days, during the holidays. However, today I logged out just outside the cave, where the ettins are, to return a couple of hours later and check it. I switched my specc to prot and entered. NO text appeared and NO growl or whatever. For the hell of it I went in anyways, as I always do - and there it was, lying on the first pile of filthy gold I found.

Tbh I was about to give up completely, and finding it didn't even make me that happy. But I wanted to share this with those who are still looking, and I guess my point is that you shouldn't rely on the apperance of the emote, text or growl - appearantly you can find it anyways.

I've seen folks on the forums and elsewhere having mentioned getting the Burning Plate of the Worldbreaker from Neltharion's Lair (versus the daily treks to the Vault) after killing the last boss. Can anyone confirm that experience? If so, were you able to see, and loot, the Burning Plate after having already received the "Try Again Tomorrow" macro response?

First time posting here. Wanted to share my experience with obtaining the skin in hopes to help others. Long winded I know but wanted to give as much info as I could.

First off my main spec is Fury. I have all 3 artifact weapons with my fury weapons having everything unlocked. Save for maxing out the final ability that unlocks when everything else unlocks. My artifact knowledge is at 25. Note that I had read through the Artifact book by clicking in the text window and moving to the next page all the way through the research book (basically clicked on every page not just the next page button) in my class hall. I did not do that the day I received the skin. The last time I had done it I believe was a few days to a week prior.

At the time of acquiring the skin I did not have everything maxed on my shield. I had 0 points in Thunder Crash, Rage of the fallen, Rumbling Voice, and Might of the Vrykul. I had 2/3 Will to survive and 1/3 in toughness. Reason for posting this is when I was trying to find info I remember people asking if you had to have all the special abilities unlocked and this proves you don't.

I looted the skin on Sunday, January 15th at 3:05 server time. My method was hearthing to Dalaran, Switching to Prot and then flying to Obsidian Overlook via the flight master. I was tracking the Daily Quest Achievement so I could see if it added one upon landing.
(Every day it moved up one the shield was not there. I checked regardless by mounting and running through the cave every time.)

When I landed I heard a loud roar and in the text box it said "You hear a strange roar from the cavern ahead". The quest tracker stayed at the number I was at and the macro that people have posted said true when I clicked on it. This worked outside of the cave and inside of the cave btw.

The macro I used was
/run print(IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44311))

I did not initially use the macro when landing because i heard the roar and seen the text so I just went in and found the shield. Later i thought you know, it might help to see and know if that macro worked so I went back to Obsidian Overlook and tried it and it said true. So that proves that the macro actually checks if the quest is available that day for your character even if you have completed it.

The shield was very noticeable on a gold pile on the right about halfway up Neltharian's Vault just before starting up the second hill. I had to fight quite a few mobs while seeing it on the ground from a distance. When looted you do not automatically learn it. You have to click on the item you loot in your bags so I'm assuming you could do this anywhere but I did it in the vault as soon as I looted it.

Finally, I managed to get lucky with this as you only get one chance per day to get the shield. I checked every day for around a month and a half. I know some of you have been at it much longer and I hate that. Believe me RNG has been very bad to me for just about everything I have farmed in wow. From old world legendaries taking me 3 years to get bindings to hundreds and hundreds of raid locks for mounts that I've seen people get after a few attempts so I know your pain.

Good luck to all of you that are still looking for this. Still don't understand why blizzard keeps making everything so full of RNG.. Really burning me out.

i think i foiund out the trick, maybe, not sure.
before you go to highmountain, every day read middle tome, in skyhold.
i did twice with 2 different warriors and this method worked:

go to skyhold, read middle tome, then left one (yes, its just monument but still, might be the trick) and then right one. go to highmountain and approach cave. there will be notice about noise, not a whisper or smnt. both times appearance was near statue, in piles near it. good luck . damn, might be rng or smnt but try this way and hope it helps to You.

Protection spec is mandatory to see the artifact in the gold.

Got the roar and was running around as Arms and couldn't find it then changed to Prot and it appeared.

Got my shield on the 10th attempt. There is no trick or something you have to do. Just reach AK5, read the stone once in the class hall and simply visit the cave. Got the emote and looted the shield.

Wanted to add this in case anyone was in a similar situation: I have not checked for this hidden appearance in probably 2 months (well before 7.1.5) came out. On a whim today I went to check - no emote occurred at the cave entrance but I hit the macro every time regardless out of habit. Lo and behold it says "true, false" so I go and check and there is. Take home message: hit the macro in the top post even if you haven't seen the emote!

I got the roar outside the cave and the shield was in the big pile of gold with the statue ....

The item was not on the gold piles but the plates that are next to the big bones straight ahead when you jump down into the water.
I usually run to the gold area, but today i checked ther as well, and there it was =D

Finally got it after idk how many days. This is a boosted toon and my daily counter was about to hit 50 and I have a total of 3 days played, went to the cave at least 45 times because the only dailies I could have possibly done are other people's blingtrons that I have done maybe 3-4 times.

Only read the plates once a few months ago.

Took the FP to obsidian overlook and the daily counter didn't go up and I got the emote. Was in the first small pile after the big ones with the basilisks around the first group of kobolds.

So literally just hit AK 5 read the plates once and go try your luck everyday until you get it.

The shield lies amongst the gold piles around the stone statue (well, petrified Drogbar, actually; damn, Deathwing sure didn't kid around...) at the end of the upper shelf in the cave, BUT it doesn't always spawn in the location shown in one of the screenshots. For me, I was sure it had not spawned - I went there to check just once on a complete lark - and then I decided to doublecheck Wowhead comments to make sure I was in the right place. "Need to be in prot spec to see the shield" I read.

Ok, so I change to prot; still no shield. I click the flightmaster whistle and to my surprise the whistle begins casting. Then I spot the shield - way off to the side, stuck sideways into the gold so that it was quite difficult to see. Desperately I try to cancel my flight, but no. The griffin is already picking me up off the cave floor, so off I go back to Thunder Totem. Like lightning I'm on another flight back to the cave. I run through all the kobolds, pulling just about the entire cave with me, and yeah, sure enough... There is the shield still. Then I fight down anyone who doesn't rubberband back to their spawnpoints and claim my prize. Aaaah.

This is 2/3 warrior artifact appearances I get on the first attempt to get it. The arms appearance I got because the NPC was there and wanted to talk axes to me when I'd just dinged 110 and came back to my order hall to do...whatever. I don't even remember.

Now, if only Ursoc would drop my main druid's tank form also, that'd be friggin sweet! I've killed him SO many times now. :/

So, I am at Artifact knowledge 26 right now and I have been logging in every day to check the macro if the quest is available. But I started wondering, do you need to complete certain quests in Highmountain for it to spawn? Cause I haven't done the questline yet where you explore the vault.

Just wanted to report that you should run your macro. I never got the roar emote, and for kicks today I looked up and ran the macro. It returned true. I looked around the cave and found the appearance. I have all the 'says' and 'whispers' and such checked in my settings, but the roar never showed. Check your macros. Makes me wonder how many times I missed it before.

I got mine today. I was only honored with Highmountain...but, I had completed the quest chain where Ebonhorn guides you through the vault. Also, I flew across the vault to the point where the spawn was.

Important to note that while you can get the emote in dps spec, you have to be in prot to see the shield. Had issue where I couldn't find it so on a hunch I clear a section then swapped to prot and it appeared in front of me.

I dug out my old warrior and got her up to speed in AK (writing this as of 7.2.5). She had AK 30+. Ran the macro from the guide to verify if she can trigger the event. I specced her protection, went into Neltharion's Vault, no emote or message. I expected that, who could be so lucky on the very first try, right?
Well I went in anyway and made my rounds. Walked past the first pile of gold and towards the second, there it was! Clicked it, looted it, profit.

Turns out the item can be there even if there is no message/emote/whatever!

Disclaimer: On release of Legion I invested ~100hrs of playtime into the character before Emerald Nightmare opened, also went into the cave before that multiple times. Never got a legendary on her, but now got the first immediately after opening my first emissary cache. So you could say she wasn't a completely fresh character, already did extensive content on her, maybe that already set some triggers?

I hit 110 today, and used the item to get to AK 40. It returned false. But after logging on and logging back in later in the day, the macro returned true. I went to the cave. I did not get the message, but the shield was there on a pile of gold.

Got this today. The script only works when you are inside the cavern, I ran it in the order hall and it returned false. Running the script in the cavern returns true but pointless as you will hear the roar anyway.

So I finally got it, but in a weird and buggy way. Entered cave at Path of Huln in prot spec, no emote. I flew inside the cave anyway just to have a look, but no luck or so I thought. Then I saw just the edges of what I knew the appearance looked like, just a few of the pointy ends sticking up from the metal plates just straight ahead when you enter the cave by the giant spine. As I said it was almost completely hidden. I clicked it and sure enough, I looted the appearance.

So my advice is just to go inside the cave every now and again and look for it everywhere you can think of, it doesn't necessarily have to be on top of a pile of gold as most have found it in. I'm just wondering how long mine lay hidden where I couldn't find it....

Took 5 days of coming back to the cave to hear the roar, my spawn was at the very bottom leaned up against a rock. Keep a keen eye out, don't limit yourself to just gold piles.

FYI, I just got this on an alt today (21Aug2017). I've been logging my warrior out in the cave every night, and checking it every afternoon and nothing for 3 weeks. Luckily, to be safe I've been flying out of the cave and back in because today when I flew back in I got the "event." As I got a few feet in from the entrance of the cave, "You hear a strange roar from the cavern ahead." and the script finally came back true. It DID NOT come back true when I first logged in, I had to leave the cave and re-enter it first.

So to be clear, it appears you need to enter the cave before the event can trigger. You can't log out in the cave and expect it. I'm not sure if this works with the back entrance where the flight path is.

For reference, the script is this: /run print(IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44311))

Not sure if this will be helpful but more data is always good to have. I'm on Mal'ganis, after the reset this morning (10am Central), I wandered into the cave, no emote, script returned as 'false', but I noticed a warrior from Illidan was also in there, I asked him if he had looted the skin, and he said yes. I however, looked all over, including where he found it, and found nothing. I had him invite me to a group, flew all around, nothing. Flew out of the cave and back in, still nothing.

Therefore, this does not seem to be server based. It seems to be character specific. Not sure why they would do this other than to annoy the hell out of me.

I play fury and I went to cave yesterday, I heard the whisper and I got excited, run the script shared here, it came true. However, I couldn't find the item at least 10 minutes. Then I started to search internet and read the comments here what it can be. I rezoned the cave, restart the game, did everything but nothing. I thought it's a bug. Today I came to cave again, run the script and it returns true. But item isn't here, then it hit me that maybe I should spec to prot, yeah that was the problem. I saw the item in the gold piles near the statue.

TL;DR

You can get the whisper whatever your spec is but to be able to see the item, you should change to prot.

I got this today on 11/10/2017 10 am pst. I have been checking this for a couple of months using just the macro. It returned true to me one time but I had to leave for a medical emergency and didnt get a chance. I figured why not I will try it out today, it was up. GL for those still farming it, my advice would be to check the cave itself rather than relying on the macro (I did get the orange roar emote on entering.)

Important note: you have to be prot spec to see it! Don't be like me and get the emote and then spend 30 minutes looking for it becase you were in dps spec -___-'' I really don't understand this one, I've had plent of hidden appearances drop for my off-specs but this one is just plain invisible while you're dps. Once you're prot it's really easy to find, it stands out a lot against the background gold piles.

I’ve followed the instructions from Ascar’s comment for the past month and nothing yet, no event and even checked the cave a few times. No roar event, macro always returns false. I did 0 of the Highmountain quests (leveled my warrior through invasions) and just want to make sure this isn’t some requirement that hasn’t been detected.

I finally got it. I checked the cave daily and used the macro. Today it showed false - false outside and then I heard the roar including the emote in chat before I entered the cave zone. I got it just outside the cave entrance. Then I found the shield on a pile of gold.

Congratulations, Piastra Ardente del Devastamondi on becoming the last hidden appearance to be collected.

For me, /run print(IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44311) did not provide useful answers. As the check did not tell me whether I was actually eligible for the Piastra Ardente del Devastamondi until I got to the front of Neltharion's Vault anyway.

The scale was found on 3/12/2018.

It was leaning on a gold pile and surrounded by kobolds when I found it.

This is just a, "cool story, bro," moment for me, but it was just such a cool coincidence I had to share this.

I have been checking daily to hear to the roar, but it didn't happen until today. Nothing special, but what did make it special was this was the first time I had music running in the background. It just so happened that "Into Free" by B'z aka the Dragon's Dogma title song started playing when I dropped into Highmountain. Then I made my wave to the cave and the roar sounded. The Dragons have blessed me this day.

I got it today.
You don't need to have the artifact for the tank spec to get it. I only had Fury and Arms and i still heard the roar when i went in the cave but you need to be in tank spec in order to see and loot it.
Macros only work if you are in the cave or else they show false even if you can obtain it so be sure to go to the cave and check daily.

I’m not sure if this has been discussed yet. But today, I was taking my Snowfeather Hatchling to Neltharion’s Lair Heroic 5 using the dungeon finder for a quest it gave me. To my surprise upon entering the Dungeon I heard a roar and got the emote in my trade chat box ‘You hear a strange roar from the cavern ahead’. I was in Fury spec, but my loot specialization was set to protection. Upon finishing the dungeon I headed over to Highmountain in Protection spec and found the Burning Plate of the Worldbreaker sitting on a pile of gold in Path of Huln, Neltahrion’s Vault!

I hope this helps anyone still searching for this appearance :)

I can confirm you NEED to be in Prot spec to SEE and LOOT the item. After several frustating minutes on my wife's warrior helping her find the shield after getting the EMOTE while entering the cave in FURY spec, we even realm hopped and switched toons to see but no shield on pile of gold, then I read a comment that you had to be on Prot to see and loot and VOALA damn thing right on our noses... :D

If anyone is trying to do this on an alt like I was, you must complete the quest chain 'Secrets of Highmountain' first. I waited for 2 months outside that cave before I did the quest chain, then I got the shield the next day. Fairly certain its a requirement

Don't do like I did and hang out inside the cave expecting the macro to come up true. I sat my warrior inside Neltharion's Vault (where you did the Huln Highmountain quest to face Deathwing) for a few days and every day I would log on, click the macro "/run print(IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44311))", and it would return a "false" answer. Tonight I needed to use my warrior so I went to fly out of the cave and just as I did I heard the roar and saw the message in my chatbox. I turned around, went back into the vault and clicked the macro again and it returned a "True" answer. I found the shield in the upper section of the vault in a gold pile. I have attached a couple screenshots as well. Also, make sure you are in Prot spec. You will not see the shield in the gold pile unless you are in the appropriate spec.

Logging out your warrior inside the cave will not trigger the roar emote when you log in. I tried leaving my warrior in the cave and logging in once a day to check for roar. Did a full zone check but no shield. It didn't work.

First sporadically checked for 2-3 weeks, then past week I checked almost daily for the Arms and Prot weapon. Both procced on the same day.

I ran past the torch, while in prot spec, and got the emote about hearing something in the cavern.

Typed in the quest command, /run print(IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44311)) and sure enough it came back true.

Went to the designated area and picked it up.

I can confirm this still drops in 8.0.1. Just got it on my level 116 Warrior. I did have the artefact weapon (Prot Warrior) still equipped while levelling. The emote ("You hear a strange roar from the cavern ahead") is still displayed as you approach the cave in Highmountain at /way 44.71, 72.32

Unsure if it's just dumb-luck but I just finished the quest-line in the cave while leveling my new warrior and decided I would go check on my old warrior. I flew right into the cave and didn't get the emote. I flew towards the gold piles and there it was ready for looting (I was in prot spec). So it's possibly a good idea to just fly in and check regardless of getting the emote or not.
Unrelated however, it appears that the appearance did not carry over to my new warrior like all the other appearances did when BFA launched which is pretty disappointing.

*EDIT*

I figured maybe the appearance didn't transfer over to my new warrior because I hadn't obtained the Prot artifact weapon. I did the quest to obtain it, then logged over to my old warrior and transmogged the weapon onto something just in case that was the trigger. Whatever I did transferred it to my Appearance Tab.

Hey guys, with BfA there is a new way to "farm" the Skin!
If you didnt get lucky all you have to do is create a trial character!

Step by step:

Create Highmountain-Warrior
Use Hearthstone
In Orgrimmar, use Highmountain-Portal (right infront of the embassy)
Go to the cave
If you hear the Roar/your weakaura pops up go grab it, if not rinse and repeat until it works

I needed 2 Trial characters and got it directly on my 2nd!

You HAVE TO be in Tank-Spec to be able to loot the Shield, you DO NOT have to do any quest on the Trial Character to get the Skin / The quest for the Skin to Spawn

You might have to have a Warrior that has read the big Artefact info table in Skyhold, but since you want this skin chances are you allready have done that.

I just got this appearance today so it's still obtainable. That said...it appears Blizz changed something about it.

It seems like checking to see if the roar event will trigger for you with macros people posted here doesn't work anymore. Both the 44311 and the 44312 quests printed ,,false,, for a few weeks for me... so today I checked the cave personally to see if the macros are broken...and sure enough I see the roar emote , go in and collect my appearance. I just read the Saga of the Valarjar in the order hall , speced prot , loot speced prot , equiped prot artifact and went into the cave.

I recommend checking the cave in person and not relying on macros.

Can confirm the method of making highmountain warrior class trials works, flew to the cave on my second trial, saw the roar emote and the shield was sitting on the metal plates right at the start of the cave

So far getting this skin via the class trial HM warrior this way still works as of patch 8.2 the latest patch as of 7/17/2019. So far it has not shown up on my other warriors and dose not transmogrify while on the warrior that acquired the skin yet. will update if anything changes. Took me 9 HM warrior class trials to get the skin and you have to do the warrior prot artifact quest line to use the skin.
Edit: so yes this still can be transmoged but just the basic skin only. i will still try on my main warrior to unlock the other variants.

Good news! This still drops as planned in BFA 8.2.5 as normal. After weeks of checking daily, I went to the cave to explore, and the "You hear a strange roar from the cavern ahead" text appeared as I entered the cave. Looted the item at appx 9:51am CST. Checked the well-known macro which registered as true.

As of 8.3 this still works. Follow the trial character tip and once you have it on your trial and do the prot artifact quest what worked for me was mog it on your trial toon. Once you do that it will show up on your main as a mog option.

Been trying to get this for the last 5 months on my Prot Warrior, Finished my Legion Order hall, Finished the Legion storyline, Gone into cave every day after reset, No text saying "You hear a strange roar from the cavern ahead" and I've checked all the gold piles in the cave everyday, Nothing, Either they have taken it out of the game, It is limited to 1 person per day or I am just extremely unlucky.

I just got this after 20 days of checking daily. Here are some findings:

You can be super unlucky (it took me 20 days). It doesn't mean you are doing something wrong.
You need to be in Prot spec. You dont need to equip the artifact weapon
Running the scripts to check 44311 and 44312 is NOT an alternative to checking the cave. You will always start with false, false. One of them will turn true AFTER checking the cave. I can't add a picture showing chat log, so I copied it here:

Check only once per day per character. Once 44312 turns true, it will stay so for the rest of the day, preventing the event from triggering again.

As of 6/8/20, I can confirm that you can get the hidden appearance by using a Trial Warrior.

I had to make 2 different warriors before I heard the roar.
Make sure you are in Protection spec'
Get to High Mountain and fly into the cave.
Ignore using the macro.
If you hear the roar/see the roar emote fly down and pick up the shield off the stack of gold.
If not delete the warrior and make a new one and repeat.

After you have the shield simply do the intro quest line for artifact weapons, took maybe 15 minutes. Once you have the artifact, click the hidden appearance in your bags and all the warriors on your battle net account have the unlock.

Start to finish it took maybe 30-45 Minutes.

As of 7/22/2020, the class trial method still works. I logged in every day for about 2 weeks on two warriors and made 15 class trials before it finally spawned, but it showed up eventually.

Getting this with a trial was weird for me. I got it just fine after 5 or 6 retries. However, on my main warrior, the only color appearance unlocked is the green color for having completed 200 WQ (I unlocked Arms when it was current). I cannot TMog to the base color, red, with the warrior that did not actually loot the item from the cave.

Don't be an idiot like me.

You can hear the roar and the emote can go off in the cave, but you will still NOT be able to see the shield without actually being in Prot spec. Having loot set to Prot isn't good enough.

Just got it in two days, here is what i have done, i'm not sure if this the right way but it worked for me:

-I have 2 lvl 50 and 3 class trial war posted at the entrance of the cave in prot spec and loot spec,
- only had the artifact on one war ,
- spawned on my second day of farm, so on my 6th try, on my main war without the artifact unlocked

The apperance didn't show up in my collection until I unlocked the artifact.

Got it today. After running the macro und getting a "true" as result, I went to the cave entrance. No emote, no roar coming, but I went to the gold piles in the upper area of cave - and there it was! Don't know if the emote is bugged or not, but always take a look at the big pile in the corner if it is there nevertheless.

I was running Neltahrion's lair(the dungeon) for Balance of power quest line and had the macro pop out just after entering the dungeon (had the emote in the chat too).

Went trough but could not see it near the boss in the last room, searched carefully, but nothing to clic on. I had to respec in Protection spec and it appeared near the bones and lava.

So if you ever running this dungeon in Fury or Arms spec and have the macro/emote popping, you have to respec Prot to get it to be clickable at the end.

9.0 Shadowlands macro for checking the cave at 45,73 (Neltharion's Vault) on the High Mountain:

Meaning of what this macro returns in your chat window:

"False, true": You have rolled the "dice" (~1% probability) today and the Burning Plate decided not to spawn.
"False, false": You have not rolled the "dice" today.
"True, false": Congrats! The Burning Plate has spawned. Jump inside the cave in Prot spec and look for it!

According to Ascar, you must be in Prot spec to be eligible to see Piastra Ardente del Devastamondi. If this macro returns "false, true", then you have to try on another day or with another warrior character.

Edit: Holy Omnissiah! I have finally heard the roar after checking Neltharion's Vault for about ~100 consecutive days. The macro turned "true, false" after I heard the roar. Took me some running around inside the case before I found the Piastra Ardente del Devastamondi. I was in Protection spec (loot spec: current) when I entered the Neltharion's Vault.

All Warrior's artifact hidden appearance unlockers

Arms - Spezzalame d'Arcanite: Visit Maestro Fabbro Helgar in the Skyhold daily until he says "Your sword is incredible. I wonder if there is an axe to match it." Speak to him to acquire the quest I segreti delle asce. It's ~1% chance per day that he will say the above. If you have multiple level-capped warrior toons on different realms, you can visit all these realms daily to speed up the grind.
Fury - Ammazzadraghi: Grind Valarjar reputation to exalted. Then grind the Sale del Valore dungeon and the Prova del Valore raid a large number of lockouts for the low chance drops. It's approximately ~1% chance per lockout.
Protection - Piastra Ardente del Devastamondi: Everyday, visit Neltharion's cave (High Mountain 45,73) until the map location text chances to "Neltharion's Vault." Eventually you will see a chat emote "You hear a strange roar from the cavern ahead." Then, in Prot spec, get in the cave, search for and loot the hidden appearance shield laying among one of those piles of gold. It's ~1% chance daily spawn. If you have multiple level-capped warrior toons on different realms, you can visit all these realms daily to speed up the grind.

As of today, Shadowlands 05/01/202, this is how I obtained the appearance in an hour.

Create Warrior class trial > Log in > Hearth to Org > Change spec to Prot > Take portal to Azuna > Fly to Highmountian > Fly to cave > Check to emote/run macro

For me, I got this on the 7th class trial I created. No need to do anything else but the above, just rinse and repeat until the emote plays or the macro returns a True+False in that order.

Once you get the item fly back to Dalaran to complete the Artifact Weapon quest (only takes about 10-15 min), then you can click and learn the hidden appearance.

Note: I had some trouble getting this appearance to pop up under Transmog but after a few game restarts it was there.

Still working before 9.0.5, but two things I discovered:
1) You gotta delete the old class trial characters before you make new ones to avoid the "Boost still processing" problem.
2) You spend a lot less time flying if you pick Highmountain Tauren as the race, since you can use the portal outside the embassy in Org to go straight to Thunder Totem.

As for Shadowlands,
1. Create Highmountain Tauren Warrior Trial character on any realm (This may have a daily limit, as, after about 3 tries, the trial was not worked for me)
2. HS to Orgrimmar
3. Portal to Highmountain (Portal is located at 40.07 76.37)
4. Go to Cave, If you will see the message at the entrance, zone in and open the item.
5. If there will be no message at the entrance, change realm and start from the first step (1. Create Highmountain Tauren Warrior ....)(##RESPBREAK##)272##DELIM##Uchur##DELIM##

Hey so I just got this on a trial character but I can't mog it. It appears on the appearances tabs but it doesnt let me apply as a mog.

Can you not transmog this? I got this the first time on my Alliance toon, logged on to my Horde warrior, went to the transmogrifier and didn't see the option for it, am I missing something?

hello everyone. as of 9.1.5 (november 4th 2021 as I'm writing) the best way to actually get this item is the following. This in no way is my technique, i read it in the comments too, but wanted to confirm it still works.

->Log in to all your warriors and repeat the following:
-Change to prot spec (you doN't need the artifact weapon (or even the class hall) unlocked/equipped, only necessity is the spec.
-fly to high mountain, to Neltherion's Vault enterance. fly in until it zones you in (up on the minimap you see it being written so)
-if you see the emote in the chat you are in luck, fly in and look for your shield. it should be on one of the gold piles on the upper level.
-to actually learn the appearence, you need the prot artifact weapon equipped, if you don't have it, here is how to do it (doesn't take long). Go to legion dalaran, if you already have the class hall, go there talk to Odyn and ask to go after the prot weapon. If you don't have the hall unlocked, just go to dala, Eitrigg (no clue who the alliance guy is) will give you a quest as soon as you zone in, do it and you just follow it till you get the quest from odyn to get the weapon, do it in like 10 mins and learn your appearence. ( you don't even need to complete it, as soona s you get the weapon just use the item form the vault and you are done.)
-if you didn't see the emote, try again next day, if you have multiple warriors, repeat the action for all of them.
->still no shield? you are in luck my friend.
-Make a high mountain tauren class trial (isn't a necessity but they get a free teleport to highmountain in valley of spirits just across the embassy.) Use your hearthstone which will bring you to Orgrimmar or Stormwind. And repeat the above action. if you doN't have a highmountain tauren, just use the portal to azsuna in orgrimmar/stormwind. fly to highmountain from there.
- no idea if there is a limit on how many of these class trials you can make, however you needen't delete them, you can leave them at the enterance and try again every day until you are lucky.

For me it took (today) 5 atempts to get my shield (3 max level warrs and 2 trials) However i have done this in the past for a while with breaks in between. shouldn't take long.

Everything in the other comments is true, but even if you don't see the emote, run the macro to see if quests are up and theck for the shield.

if the first returns true, and the second returns false, then go in the cave and check it, EVEN IF YOU DON'T GET THE EMOTE. The shield should be in the places shown in the other comments. I did this while being in Protection spec and having the artifact equipped.

Beware of using trial characters to try to circumvent the daily check... I just did that trick, made highmountain trial characters, saw the emote, found the shield. Went and unlocked class hall, got the artifact, learned the hidden appearance, and I do not have it on my other warriors. And unfortunately, I didn't think to log off and log back in on the trial character before checking because I deleted him and since he was a trial, cannot be restored.

I don't know if this was a fluke for me, but it has definitely deterred me from bothering with that particular method. Just going to log in daily on my actual warriors and call it good.

Macro to check whether it's up once you enter the cave at 45, 73:

It will print one of these:

not rolled = you haven't entered the cave yet
not up = it's not spawned

Remember that you have to be at least max level in Legion for you to have a chance to roll for the hidden artifact. So don't be like me and scratch your head wondering why the macro always returns false.

With the SL level squish, the max level in Legion would be level 45. Don't bother checking for it until you are at least level 45.

found the hidden item earlier on a class trial and have unlocked the Artifact weapon and am able to put it on in the forge... however it doesn't show up on any other characters :/

Got it today in the Dragonflight prepatch, went in from the Obsidian Overlook flight path. No emote, and the macros did not work either, I found the appearance laying on top of the gold pile.

After about a week of trying daily to get this on my main I attempted the class trial method that was mentioned. After about 9 characters I was able to get it on one of the trials. That being said, I do not think it is possible to earn the other colorations on my main as it technically does not have it unlocked.

For those interested in getting the base color here is the method that still works as of 10.0.2:

- Create a class trial Highmountain Tauren
- Change spec to Protection and head to the Highmountain portal located near the embassy in Org
- Fly over to the cave and check all of the gold piles. When I got mine I did receive both the emote & audible roar but there have been reports that this is not required.
- If the appearance didn't spawn, log out and delete the character.
- You can create up to 5 class trials per hour
- When you do get the appearance, hearthstone back to Org and pick up the Legion start quest from the Hero's Call board
- Follow the questline until you can pick up the quest to unlock your Protection Artifact weapon from your hall
- After you get your Artifact weapon you can use the appearance from your bag
- After unlocked go to the forge in your hall and change your Artifact weapon's appearance to the hidden one. This is the point where the appearance unlocked in my collection

As of patch 10.0.5 the trial warrior method worked for me ill describe my experience just for reproduction:
Created around 8 trial warriors on the same server my main character was (Bleeding Hollow) but no luck after two days of checking each of them.
Finally, Created one high mountain tauren trial warrior on another realm (in my case Suramar) and i got the emote + roaring sound effect on first try, found the scale on the left side of the cave.
Next, i went and took the legion start quest from the board at Orgrimmar and chose the skip option since i had already done it before.
Did the saurfang quest to unlock the skyhold, spoke to Odyn, selected the shield, and was sent to do the quest to get the artifact.
once i obtained the shield, went back to skyhold, used the burning plate of the worldbreaker from my inventory, didn't even bother finishing the quest and went to check if it was in the transmogrifier
since i had the relic equipped it wasn't showing me the tab that says "legion artifacts" so i switched to a different shield + axe and was able to see the tab, the appearance was there and also accessible to my main warrior on my main realm.

My Advice: create trial warrior on different realm, perhaps that helps, worked for me on the first try after all... Good luck!

I too, used the high tauren class trial strat for this. Worked well. Did not appear for a few realms, but eventually popped up as I checked out less popular realms. I don't know if that matters or not.

One thing to note: After looting it, you cannot use it until you unlock the actual artifact. After doing so, I DID NOT see it in my appearances folder, even after logging in and out, however, when I logged in to my main warrior, it was there!

Using the class trial method and I obtained the hidden artifact, however it seems like I've unlocked the appearance but not the actual hidden artifact on my original warrior, the appearance does not show up in the forge of Odyn... Is there another step to make this happen or is it expected that it's not *actually* unlocking the artifact appearance? Edit - In looking it seems like this is likely intended.

Just got the appearance using the trial character method. Still works on patch 10.1.5.
Note: Do not use the hidden appearance when you get it, only use it after you got the actual artifact shield. Remember to go change the appearance at the forge and un-equip it. That's how I got mine

Today just went randomly (was in HM for community satchel event) and decided to give it try. Havent got and sound while walking to cave and NO EMOTE. Have fly around gold piles and didnt saw it first time, but i though about second round in reverse and there was my precious.
