So far, all we know is that you need the Teleportation Nexus unlocked. Either triggered or randomly, we're unsure which, you'll get a broadcast message and a loud sound as you teleport to the Hall, stating you hear something coming from the portals downstairs. Taking any of the five will take you instead to a phase in Frostfire Ridge, where the NPCs will grant you this item.

Any information as to what can trigger it would be appreciated.

There's more than just having the Order Hall Advancement. I main Frost and have been using the portals several times per day for convenience. I've received nothing as of yet.

I got this appearance today after searching far and wide in live! Turns out it's like in beta, but you need Artifact Knowledge 4. Right after getting AK4, I got the message "You hear a strange crackling sound from the portals downstairs" in chat. I got into one of the portals, and it teleported me to a phased Frostfire Ridge. There I was escorted by Cenereck/cindreck to Ceneros/asher, who gave me the item.

You need to have the Portals upgrade for your Class Order hall, and every day you'll have a chance for this proc. You DO NOT need to be in frost spec to get this.

I probably got lucky because I haven't seen anyone with it yet, but I'm really happy because we've been working hard in the Order of the Shepherd Discord to find the mage appearances. Now for the fire and arcane ones!

Got this today. Artifact knowledge 4. Emote of 'You hear a strange crackling sound from the portals downstairs.' Clicked and transported to a very short cutscene in Frostfire involving Drek'thar. Loot item and get achievement. Pretty cool!

You get the Evocazione: Asher buff while in the instance.

you have to have Artifact Knowledge 4, and the teleportation nexus unlocked before you are able to get this item.

For those that already have the hidden appearance, Here's how to track your hidden artifact appearance color variants through achievement progress:

/run AddTrackedAchievement(11152) - Complete 30 dungeons using a hidden artifact appearance. (This achievement does not display correctly)
/run AddTrackedAchievement(11153) - Complete 200 world quests using a hidden artifact appearance.
/run AddTrackedAchievement(11154) - Kill 1,000 players using a hidden artifact appearance.

Check all your hidden artifact appearance progress using this script

Just got this today on Live. I did not get a loud sound or notification when I walked down the stairs, I just used the Suramar portal and was teleported to Frostfire Ridge. I have level 5 artifact knowledge (unsure if that matters).

I got this the very same day I reached AK 4. To clear some confusion, you DO need AK 4 for the event to trigger and you DO NOT need to be in Frost spec for it to trigger or even loot it, just to learn it.

The roll that can make the message appear (or not) is rolled when you enter the order hall from the outside. so if you log in when you are in the order hall it didnt roll yet, so go out and in again.

This is meant for the roll itself, not if the roll is succesfull or not

Today i acquired the Everburning Crystal by literally using a portal within the class hall. nothing special happened just took a portal as i would normally to start my World Quests and i was ported to Frostfire Ridge to acquire the hidden artifact .

I just finished getting this - I logged on already inside my class hall. Completed my missions, then changed from Fire spec to Frost spec. I used my artifact power gains and then headed up the stairs to put my point in. When I noticed the emote saying that I hear a strange crackling from the portals. Went down and clicked on the portal and I was ported to Frostfire ridge.

I did not have to teleport out and then back in like some posts have said. So it is possible to get when you log into the game while your character is at the class hall when you logged out last.

My current artifact level is: 12 but don't think it matters.

Hey, quick question for all you guys who already got it. did you guys have both a frost and a fire spec at the time? or just a frost spec? I am AK 8 almost 9 and nothing yet. but I am only frost. the roll does show yes though.

I thought this appearence was a myth and that I'll never get it. I had portals trait since day 1 of the expansion and I got the message today, on november 26th. Used portal to Stormheim and got to Frostfire Ridge where I picked up the item. To all of you fellow mages who are feeling down due to lack of RNG luck don't be! Eventually, you'll get it aswell, just keep porting daily!

I should also add that when I logged today I was already in Order Hall and I didn't get the message, but after using teleportation spell to get there I was able to receive it. Hope this helps!

Got this today after unlocking artifact knowledge level 18.
Shortly after learning it, I saw a chat message pop up saying, "You hear a strange crackling sounds from the portals downstairs." As others stated, I clicked a random portal (Stormheim), and was ported to frostfire ridge, where I followed a fire elemental a short distance to a lootable crystal.

Seems to be a random chance every time you learn a new knowledge level (past a minimum of 4 I think?). I was in fire spec at the time.

You do not need to be in frost spec to get the item however you do have to be in frost spec to use it. :)

Questions:

1 - is the sound effect only heard if you have the music toggled on?

2 - is there a specific time of day to run up and down all of the stairs? Does it matter which stairs?

WARNING: After you teleport in to the Frostfire Ridge area, be extremely careful to not accidentally click on the teleporter pad you are standing on. You will be teleported back to the order hall and have no way to return to Frostfire Ridge to collect the hidden appearance.

I've been looking for Progetto delle Stelle for weeks and WHILE IN FIRE this bugged out for me and when I saw the "You hear a crackling..." I went to investigate and it ports me to frostfire ridge, crashes my game, no dialogue when I relog, grab this and walk out in fire. So thanks for this but I have never and will never spec frost, now give me my Star's Design!

Great. Clicked on a portal yesterday, it took me to Frostfire Ridge in Draenor instead of Val'Sharah. I assumed it was a bug from the new patch. I returned to the order hall. The next time the portal worked fine. Today I looked this up. :(

Finally got the emote today. Artifact Knowledge 20. I went down into the portal room but did not know right away that I could click any portal to be ported to Frostfire Ridge. So if you're like me and not sure what to do once you get the emote running into the main room where your forge is...

I guess I got stupid lucky on this. Two days after portals were up and running, I got the emote. Clicked a portal and went directly to Frostfire Ridge. Now if I could only get that sheep to spawn for Arcane!

I just got this yesterday. Because of this I can say 100% certain DO NOT LOOK FOR THE EMOTE ONLY! I ran to the portals to head to a mythic HoV run and no emote appeared yet I was still ported to the area in frostfire ridge where it is. There is a huge crystal in front of a water elemental that luckily you need not fight.

Ok so there is someyhing wrong. Apparently you can get the portal even if you are in fire spec. I play every day since legion launch (I have only missed something like 10 days) and of course I une the portals everyday. I am AK 25 for some weeks now. So either I am doing something wrong or I am really unlucky. Anyone else is in the same situation?

Allrighty, I'm gonna post something that i haven't read anywhere else.

Today i got my emote, and i was ofc super happy and went straight down to my portals.
I decided i would click the Azsuna one, since it doesn't matter, and i got the Warlords of Draenor loading screen. This took a little while, but didn't think much about it, until i phased in. There was no icewall, no npc, but instead i had phased in to the old Frostfire, i ran around looking to see if i would phase in, but nothing. I tried reloading, which is also why i don't have a screenshot of my emote, and nothing.

I then decided i would ticket this, as it is the &*!@tiest bug i've ever had, meaning that those 4 weeks i've been waiting for my hidden skin is now down the drain.
I'm still waiting for answer on my ticket, and will update when i've gotten the answer, and lets just pray they have some love for me for once.

After a day a GM came back to me. Basically he couldn't help me, though he could see that something had gone wrong, and so i shall go back to waiting another couple of months for the appearance, that i technically already should have gotten.
Hope no one else get this but, my god does it suck, cause nothing will/can be done about it.

Im here to confirm that, indeed, there is no need for the message to appear in order to have the event trigger for you. I read a comment here mentioning that and went ahead to click one of the portals (Val'sharah one in my case) and i got the Frostfire event. You should definitely click a portal once a day whether the message appears or not.

I had receive the "You hear a strange crackling sound from the portals downstairs." emote a few days ago.
I had no idea about the hidden appearences and when I took one of the portals and got to Draenor I thought it was a bug. I even noticed there was a barrier but I mounted and left.
Then I learned about the hidden appearences but the Everburning Crystal wasn't there anymore.
Today, after some days of that event, I got the emote once again, took a portal, arrived in Draenor, looted the Everburning Crystal and got the hidden appearence.

So if you miss your chance don't worry, you will eventually get your chance again in the future.

Not sure if this is why but I have been logging in pretty much every day since I got my teleport matrix over 6 months ago. AK25. Still haven't gotten the teleport. I checked my ebonchill artifact (im primarily a fire mage) and noticed it's icon has already changed to the Frostfire Rememberance. I unlocked my hidden appearance for Felo'melorn and got the 3rd appearance unlock for it as well. Ever since I got the 3rd appearance unlock for Felo'melorn, I saw my Ebonchill had changed and I got ONLY the 3rd color appearance for Frostfire Rememberance, not the 1st appearance. I'm wondering if this might be why the portals will not proc for me. I send a message to a Blizz GM and I don't think the GM paid any attention to what I was saying and told me they can't help me with appearance unlocks and pointed me to IcyVeins. I gave up after re-explaining to the GM a third time and got a responce of "If you think it's a bug, just submit it. But I can't tell you how to unlock appearances." Normally I have GREAT experiences with Blizz GM's but this one seemed to be just a moron...... Anyone else run into this issue?

i just picked this up and found out something of interest. when i logged in, i was in front of the quest map downstairs already. i went to use the portal to stormheim and nothing happened cept going there. when i ported back to the tower i walked down the stairs and heard the sounder for it and got the flavor text. used the same portal and it took me to asher.

i believe you HAVE to walk down the stairs to trigger this. above and beyond everything else mentioned here re: artifact level and whatnot.

You won't believe this crap. I'm not here to brag. Just pointing out rng sucks. I've had an alliance mage at 110 for quite some time. Don't know how long I've been trying to get the hidden artifact appearance, but it's been a while before I finally got it. This past week I've been leveling my horde mage to 110. Dinged 110 yesterday. Teleported back to Dalaran to get my flightmaster whistle from Kadghar. Teleported to the class hall to see if there were any new quests to start when I look down and there's "You hear a strange crackling sound from the portals downstairs." LOL

Beware, pvp is enabled here so if someone is camping in the phase they can and will kill you which means that you'll have to wait for the emote agian. Re-porting does not work, resurrecting in that spot does not work. You're screwed.

Running the macro to determine whether I had "done the roll" for the portals, I saw that the daily quests would reset in about ten minutes. So I waited in Dalaran for ten minutes, waited for "Daily quests are now reset!", ran the macro, and the "Daily Portal Event Roll" (FINALLY) said "no". I immediately ported to the Hall of the Guardian, went down the stairs, and sure enough, "You hear a strange crackling sound from the portals downstairs."

So it seems to me that your best bet for getting this thing is right when the daily quests reset. I'm not sure whether everyone resets at 8am Pacific time (11am Eastern, as I live on the east coast), but if so, that's probably the best time to try it.

When I got to 110 I chased after the quest to have world quests available. Did a few to unlock most of my artifact powers. The second day when I was talking on the chat while I was heading down to the portals, I didn't even notice the message saying I am hearing a voice from the portals. Clicked on the one I wanted to go to and found myself in Frostfire Ridge. Got really excited and felt amazingly lucky :)

Though, ... as well as with the Druid secret feral form, Blizz should have put in some effort making them challenging by skill and not by shear luck and offerings to the Random Gods.

I remember the first time I ever used one of the portals I got sent to Frostfire and I was so confused....never once occurred to me that something desirable or special had happened. It happened about 3 more times, in fact, I used the portals so infrequently, I think I got sent to Frostfire more then the intended destination. It happened again today, and I finally (after porting away from Frostfire) googled 'problem with mage portals' and found out what was happening...blah. I might be more disappointed if I actually ever played frost ;)

Pure n00b moment for me on this one.

Some time ago, my portal to Azsuna malfunctioned, and landed me on a strange fiery frozen mountain top. Perplexed, I noticed I was in Draenor of all places, and I pondered the strange luck that the Tirisgarde's great portal nexus would glitch this way. Failing to examine my surroundings any further, I just teleported on back to the Hall of the Guardian, and happily found that the link to Aszuna was functioning properly once more.

Tonight, I experienced the abnormality again! But now with the Highmountain link! Finding myself back in those frosty burning mountains, I decided to take a few steps and look around a bit. There, just yonder, a great fiery entity burned with glorious cool flames. BEHOLD! Asher<Fury of Frostfire>! I found myself being ushered forward by the great Fury's minion , and there, a gift, presented unto the Tirisgarde's champion, the Everburning Crystal. AWESOME!

Also, smh forever for missing this the first time I chanced into it.

For the last two days the macro was returning true without the emote ever showing up or even moving in the order all (literally as soon as the game loaded I clicked the macro and got back true). So I took one of the portals and it took me to the phased Frostfire ridge today, where I got the appearance. So if you get true as soon as you load into your Order Hall, even if you haven't gotten the emote, try the portal just in case.

So I got sick of waiting for the emote to happen for weeks and weeks running in frost spec and started running fire spec in Suramar to wait for that appearance to drop. Immediately after the fire appearance dropped, I switched to frost spec and ported to the hall of the guardian, ran to the left towards the training dummies and the emote went off almost right away. I got the 2 hidden appearances within less than a minute of one another. Not sure if it was coincidence or luck, but its worth trying if you haven't unlocked the fire appearance yet either. GL!

Oh god. I didn't know about this event, so when i was gonna use a portal i ended up in Frostfire Ridge and got confused. "I must have clicked the wrong portal?"

I TPed back to the order hall without looking around. Now that I've read up on this, I'm facepalming myself for my massive failiure.

So, If you completed the achievement Power Unleashed (Frost, Fire and arcane as well) And the quests for the specs all done, you got instantly the frost hidden artifact. You don't need to wait for (su'@d) whispers.

He he. I do alot of things since I am a collector, but didn't start on Woolomancer and portal dice until yesterday. I didn't have the portal nexus, so I activated it. After it being completed the next day, while I was in the Class Hall, I teleported back to the class hall...and heard the click right off the bat.

BfA patch 8.3: I used the macro and got false. STILL, when I walked down the stairs in the Hall of the Guardian, I got the "a crackling noise" emote, could enter a portal, and I got the hidden skin.

Do we know how Warmode interacts with this? I know with the Kirin Tor Familiar book hunt, swapping between warmode and not, showed basically two dalarans to search.

I got the crystal today and wanted to share some info on it.

For some reason the macro in earlier comments didn't work for me, so I wasn't sure I met all the requirements for the crackling emote to trigger.
Another reason that made me hesitant was the fact you can no longer obtain Legion artifact knowledge. Some of the guides on appearances pointed out you need artifact knowledge 4 for this event to trigger.

However, I went to my hall daily and down the first stairs on the left (I'm sure the right one would work too, but I saw an earlier comment mentioning the left stairs). Today when I went down the stairs the emote popped up in my chat (YAY). Walked to the teleporters and took the Azsuna one, but you can take any of the teleporters. When you port to Frostfire Ridge be careful where you click, because you land on a portal back and you can use the portal only once to go to Frostfire. After you used it and go back to your hall the teleporters will just port you to the Legion zones as usual. You would need the emote to trigger again to go back to this instanced version of Frostfire.

One comment also mentioned the event triggered for them straight after they obtained Progetto delle Stelle. I got that a few days ago and went directly to my hall after obtaining it but the event did not trigger.

It took me 7 days/tries to get the emote to trigger.

I just got this appearance today after about a month of trying! I was skeptical about whether or not it would work, since I skipped legion and never did any of the mage order quests until BFA

It only takes about 30 seconds/day to check to see if the portal is gonna pop for you, so it's definitely worth it if you like the look of the Frostfire Remembrance appearance. I got the sound and the notification in the chat, just like you're supposed to.

Also, you can definitely trransmog this appearance. It didn't appear in my transmog window straight away, but I re-logged and then it appeared.

I am trying to get the Cristallo Inestinguibile for the Ebonchill appearance but I do not have the portals in my class hall from the Nexus di Teletrasporto, so without having any of the portals spawning now I dont think I have the chance of getting the portal for the Everburning crystal to appear

I am at the beginning of the mage campaign, do I need to continue to the campaign he get the portals to appear?

I am very surprised everyone here seem to acquired the mage classhall emote and Everburning Crystal without any issues! I got the base Ebonchill back in 2020 Dec, then I start to work on my 2nd form of Ebonchill appearances including the mage hall portal upgrade. Since 2021 late Jan, I been trying to follow the guide, step into mage hall, waiting the emote to be triggered. NOTHING until today!

The Arcane sheep staff only take less then 2 weeks? To pop up. I didn't even bother with Arcane skin until March 2021, I decide I will just follow the guide and get it as collection. The sheep show up within 2 weeks. Fire one is piece of cake, it took.... 5 mins? before enemy drop the artifact. Warlock demonology hidden skin took about an hour. Destruction warlock hidden skin (which is big on RNG) took me a month (but that wasn't even daily attempt!)

So Ebonchill take more then 3 months? I suspect there might be some bug behind it, like the emote won't show? I used my portal regardless of emote notification or not. I make sure I completed all the quests. I even tried to visit FrostFire map on the exact spot! (I know we need the special portal for a different phase of map).

Nothing seem to help at all, could the emote been bugged? Or is it really just a 1% chance (which make no sense!) Recently I gone as far as contacting blizzard customer support, because I seriously doubt it's a bug that emote just won't show. The GM couldn't do anything at all!

(Just FYI, I did used the marcos people provided here. True/false) It's always false after the reset, once I teleport to the mage hall, walk down to the stair, macros say its true, so I suppose the daily roll is done and nothing show!) Emote box is checked, so I dunno what more to do... 3 months of wait just doesn't sound right at all!

Just got the appearance today. Unfortunately I have to say, neither did the macro linked in another comment work for me nor did the emote pop up when visiting the Order Hall. For me, it was just constant daily logging in and trying out one of the portals. Wishing the best of luck to everybody who's still looking to farm the appearance!

Has anyone gotten this hidden appearance as of 9.0.5?
I have been trying daily for the last 2-3 weeks with out success on getting the emote to trigger.
I have finished the mage campaign, i have the portals system, when running the script I get TRUE.
I have read comments that Spec doesnt affect possibilities of getting the daily chance?

Here we are at patch 9.05 (shadowlands) with patch 9.1 ready to drop any minute now (or was it last week, ask Chromie).

ONE: can confirm, this does still proc in order hall that has a teleportation nexus. If you have your audio on, it also comes with a crunching sound.

TWO: can confirm, one does not have to be in Frost to go through a portal under this event. I was in Arcane.

THREEEEEE: pleased to say I don't have to run off to dal to go get Ebonchill out of the bank.

The small fire elem in front of you, you should approach them. There is no bangsign, it's just they will escort you to the big guy over there with a nice lil introduction.

Take the floating rock from in front of him, it's gearable.

FOUR: If you're a big fan of taking pics of the "self cinematic moment" switch to Frost, get your camera ready, before hitting Use on it.

Just noticed one little thing... I had my frost frost mage in portal area, and after i logged in, it didn't do anything... When i went away to 'Dalaran' portal it said that message with crackling sound.... So be aware of this....

From what I can tell, you can get this appearance multiple times if you have more than one mage. I was trying to get the tint for killing 1000 players in PvP on an alt while leveling, but I was never making any progress towards it, despite having the appearance transmogged.

The appearance seems to be account wide, but the character(s) you unlock it is/are the one(s) you have to do the prerequisites for the other tints. Not a huge deal, since the one I unlocked it on is far more geared; but it was a little inconvenient.

I got this appearance today.
The way i got it was , first i unlocked the ebonchill appearance then i unlocked the teleportation nexus to unlock all the portals , once i did that , i kept teleporting to hall of the guardian and going downstairs to check for the emote "You hear a strange crackling sound from the portals downstairs." i did this about twice a day and i got it after 3 days
Once u get it , u'll need to restart the game because it wont let u apply it in the transmogrifier , i wont matter the spec , I'm Fire Mage and im using it

Spent the past 4 days trying to get the macro to output a Yes for the Daily Portal Event Roll.. But I cant.
I walk down the stairs and around every inch of the class hall and it always outputs no. Anyone know why?

Its very specifically the *main* staircase that leads up to the Forge that will display the emote and sound effect, not the other stairs. Just got mine today.

Created the Portals and after i guess 5-7 days trying and porting to the Orderhall once a day finally got the emote.
Confirming to not been on the "main" staircase as some are guessing, I was in fact running down the left stairs and after a few steps the emote had triggered, see pic.
