When is this flask useful?
In many cases Distilled wisdom is of less use then Flask of Titans and Flask of supreme power due to it's lack of a lasting effect. What I mean by a lasting effect is that from a Titan you will for 2hours have 1.2k more health, and seeing that you will most of the time get heals, it lasts. Supreme Power adds a flat modifier to your damage and is sustainable.

Distilled Wisdom on the other hand is a little less useful in most of the longer fights in the game. The reason for this is that when you start casting, you will continously use more and more mana and won't be regening up to the maximum amount unless you get an innervate or a mana break. If you are able to regen up to full while casting then the extra mana is useless simply because you regen faster then you use mana and therefore don't drop. Due to all this it's effect can be compared to a preemptive mana potion letting you cast for 2k more.

The times this flask will shine through is on mana intensive trash packs that allows you to regen between fights since you will continously regen the extra 2k mana.

Since healers kind of lack a flask like titans for tanks and supreme for dps, we will in The burning crusade get a flask with 70 mana / 5 sec, which easily is more usefull in general.

This is the worst flask of all.

If you are looking to do great pve healing you need supreme power.
2000 mana more is a mana pot (all be it you have that 2k for each trash mob before the boss fight, but in pve ur worried about the boss fight.)

if you have 7000 mana and drop a 300 mana heal at a 3.0 speed cast 149 spec per heal turns in to hugely more heal power then the 2000 mana could have ever have been.

the only real use for this flask is a shaman/paladin to pvp with it on for crazy mana pool all the time. (though even then id take titans for pvp)

As a pally running Black Morass, and being the primary healer/add killer for it. This has come in handy, with 18 total rift lords/keeper/boss's coming in a fast sequence of 6 then a break it was very handy havin 2k extra mana. Although I agree that a holy priest proably has better choices, for a pally it was a definite bonus in mana lasting thru the 6 boss's before respite in the Black Morass

This potion has changed since the burning crusade (not sure.) from +2000 mana to +65 intellect.

I think it's better now, since int = spell crit % as well as mana.
65 intellect is ..... mana ? not sure.

As of 09/26/2009 this version of the recipe (non-BOP and no rep requirement) still can drop from Balnazzar in SC Strat (Final Boss in the "live" side of Stratholme). Was goofing off on my lvl 80 DK doing a bunch of "classic" instances for the achievements and the recipe dropped for me.

As of patch 4.0x this is the best flask you can boost your intellect with, including the northrend ones.
Time to farm some old lotus.

I ran Stratholme as a 76 druid and after i finished a full run on what used to be the human side (in order to get the achievement) i found this little recipe in my bag. Not thinking much of it i ignore it and then finish the undead side to finish the achievement. later i run to put it on the auction house i'm amazed to find out that it sells for 200g needless to say i was very pleased that on my first run of stratholme this little gem dropped that made the about 40 minutes i spent on it so worth it. Looking at the drop rate i see that i was very lucky to have this drop for me.

There are 4 of these in our AH for 100g... either they upped the drop rate, or someone is getting incredibly lucky.

If you don't wish to farm this, you can get it by becoming Exalted with the: Cenarion Expedition.

If you are trying to get this recipe to drop in order to complete your recipe list, you can also try your hand at farming the other Stratholme-exclusive recipes. All of the following recipes are Bind on Equip (BoE) and so therefore could also be potentially found on the Auction House.
Dead Side:
Blacksmithing:

Plans: Hammer of the Titans - Maleki the Pallid (8% droprate).
Plans: Corruption – Contained 100% in the object Blacksmithing Plans. Requires that you be on quest “Weapons for War” AND that you be at least a 290 Blacksmith in order to loot.

Live Side:
Blacksmithing:

Plans: Heartseeker – Willey Hopebreaker (7% droprate).
Plans: Serenity – Contained 100% in the object Blacksmithing Plans. NO quest needed but you MUST be at least a 285 Blacksmith in order to loot.

Tailoring:

Pattern: Truefaith Vestments - Balnazzar (8% droprate).

Additionally, while farming these recipes you can also work on completing the achievement Exalted with Argent Dawn by means of a repeatable quest that is accomplished in Stratholme. See this comment for full details on how reputation gains work for the Argent Dawn post-Cataclysm. You can obtain the Bind on Pickup (BoP) Argent Dawn recipes without being Exalted and so without the need to enter Stratholme.
