This item is one of the new Rare solves in Legion Archaeology.

It grants permanent access to a special room in Forte Corvonero behind a rusty gate. There a mini-boss can be found (similar to the extra bosses from dungeon World Quests), and has a chance to drop Artifact Power items, Sangue di Sargeras, gold, and very rarely (like any boss) a chance at a legendary.

There will be 3 new races of artifacts to unearth - Demon, Highmountain Tauren, and Highborne.

The achievement for unearthing all of the Common Legion archaeology finds is Maneggiare con cura.
The achievement for unearthing all of the Rare Legion archaeology finds is Un occhio sopraffino.

Obtaining Rare Solves in Legion

Based on the latest information, Legion Archaeology Rare solves WILL NOT be obtained from surveying, but rather will be part of an ongoing story questline. Every 2 weeks a quest will appear from the Archaeology trainer (Dariness la Dotta), granting a Rare project at its completion. Note that level 110 will be required for these quests.

In older Dalaran Dariness la Dotta was in the Legerdemain Lounge, but she is now located in Things of the Past, a shop on the northeast side of the Magus Commerce Exchange, between the Forge of Fate and the Like Clockwork, the Engineering shop.

Sangue di Mannoroth da Giovane	Demonic	Putting this in your Obliterum Forge will produce some Obliterum + Cenere di Obliterum.
Chiave dell'Accademia di Nar'thalas	Highborne	Use: Visit a time-lost version of the Nar'thalas Academy. Use the keys again to return to the present. (5 Sec Cooldown). Nar'thalas Academy is an area in the middle of Legion zone Azsuna. Using this will unlock access to a number of quests and minigames.
Spirito di Eche'ro	Highmountain Tauren	Mount. A ghostly moose. "The spirit of Huln Highmountain's pet moose."
Le Colline Viola di Eredath	Demonic	Consumable item. Use: Read the book to empower your artifact weapon. Grants Artifact Power to your Artifact weapon.

This is just speculation but.
Maybe it's similar as The Eye of Haramad which grant you access/release optional secret boss aka Yor.

Did this dungeon, used the key at the start

After the 2nd boss, the hallway had a Rusty Gate which I opened, a 38M HP Quartermaster was there.
On death, I got a talisman of Victory from him, not sure if this was what they key unlocked or if there was supposed to be more of a reward.

After getting the key a friend and I ran through Black Rook Hold on normal difficulty to see what it had unlocked. In the Ravenshold area of the dungeon there is a room blocked off by rusty gate which is interactable with the key and otherwise not. After opening the gate we fought a mob named Kalyndras who dropped about 5 gold each and a Blood of Sargeras for me. In the room we found two chairs which could be sat in and a table between them with a Small Red Button on it.

Clicking on the button will depress it and cause the game to play a clicking sound but we couldn't figure out anything else that it did. Perhaps it affected something further into the dungeon or it's possible that we missed something.

Do not worry if you clicked the key outside of the instance and it disappears, like I did. It permanently allows you to gain access to the hidden room.

I just solo'ed the mini boss after a random heroic run because I forgot about getting this key a couple nights ago.

I was tanking as guardian druid spec, ilvl of about 870 with 4.5 million hp. I suspect many tanks could do this solo as he can be stunned and he really only casts one thing, some ancient blade spinning attack (does put a dot on you). Rest of the dmg is normal melee and not that bad. He did have 50 million hp but he can be kited all around (at least i used the hallways nearby) as he is really slow and stands still when he gets the spinning blade attack going.

Because of those mechanics, if you can heal yourself and can stun as a tank... you can buy yourself a lot of time and only attack him when he is not spinning. Rest of the time just run away and top off. Took me almost 10 mins to kill him solo but I was only doing about 85k dps because of the in and out mechanics.

The gate is in the round hallway with all the Wyrmtongue Scavengers, up past the first Indiana Jones boulder doge staircase following Illysana. First "door" on the right in that room. It's a wide gate, glowing with a blue flame.

You have to use the key for the gate to be interactive. It won't appear as interactive unless you've used (and consumed) the key.

The boss will aggro as soon as the gate opens.

Uneventful to say the least. The key opens access to boss named Kylandras. He dropped a few gold and there's a red button you can click where nothing happens.

You can open the gate on Norm, Heroic or Mythic, but M+ does not work (as far as I know you can't complete any quests on M+)

Soloed the headmistress as an outlaw rogue. To sustain keep using "Crimson Vial" on CD, and also spam roll of the bones until you get "Grand Melee", it helps sustain as well. Interrupt mass slow and dont stand in the bad.

Don't know if it was just luck or that my lock is good, but at Ilvl 851 on heroic my group split on me before we could do him so I just got done soloing him ass Aff.
Used my infernal and just spammed pet heal and let perm corrup do its job, when he does his focus on you just fear him and then siphon life away while pet is on him, and when pet gets low just keep healing him.
took a few mins but it was semi easy,
and remember to run around alot to stay away because his axe fury is bad and hits hard.

The quest Dariness la Dotta offers changes every other week(Every quest is up for 2 weeks), in the same order as they are listed above.

These quests require Legion Expansion and Character-level 45+ and are available to both Horde and Alliance.

The third level of the dungeon (Ravenshold) is where you find the glowing gate where you use the key. It disappears after use, and makes the gate interactive. Once opened, Kalyndras attacks. He dropped just under 5 gold and a Sangue di Sargeras. There is a red button on the table that turns off the rolling boulders so you can ascend the stairs without being stunned.

There is a lot of scattered information here, so I will try to fill in and consolidate.
To start with:
It seems that just acquiring Chiave di Kalyndras is all that is required to get the "Black Rook Key" part of the achievement Scoperte rare, so I'm not sure that visiting the room is even necessary.

Forte Corvonero entrance at 39, 51.
On the first level, defeat Amalgama di Anime, then WAIT for the door to open.
The "secret" side room is on the 3rd level of Forte Corvonero, "Ravenshold".
It is the room to the north of the main circular hallway.
You need to use (consume) the key to get the gate to open.
The only feature of note is the mini boss Kalyndras with meager loot.
Mentioned elsewhere, the red button stops the rolling rocks.
