Run live strat, I usually see 3-5 drop per run. And Archivist Galford almost always drops one, so you'll doubtfully ever have a run with no orb drops.

Strat scarlet run is a nice way to get fast money. Yep you usually get 3-5 orbs each run. So everyone in your party will get 1 orb to sell. On most servers they sell for around 40~60g.

yup, farming live strat is what a lot of people do for good money. getting these just to sell them, or to sell crusader enchant is a good idea.

Righteous Orbs are a goldmine with the latest patch. Due to so many people obtaining rank 14 weapons everyone wants crusader and +healing to weapon. Stock up on these as quickly as possible as some have already been selling for double what they were last week.

Price has considerably dropped since TBC came out... everyone wants the new enchants which does not include Righteous Orbs.

This item sells for around 50-60G on my server (Spinebreaker EU) so I think 50G is a safe price for most people.

Usually sell for as low as 13g each on Executus, chinese farmer mages in Stratholme with random names.

Any way to successfully farm them as a well geared 70 affliction warlock? Even the first couple pulls are insanely hard, as SoC pops and kills the nonelites, but the 4-5 elites still have plenty of health.

This never drops for me from Archivist, I'm level 70 rogue and just stealth in and kill him.

Im quoting exactly from one of the comments under archivist galford,

have been killing him several times solo as a 70 rogue using different methods. For fastest runs I sprint through all undead packs from entrance and through the "rat cage" then vanish straight to the left after the cage, sprint allows you to run through and not get caught between the barred gates.

The times I did not get an orb drop was when I skipped all mobs in Scarlet side as well as when I only cleared the cathedral court-yard. I thought maybe getting Timmy to spawn would act as a trigger for Galford's loot table.

To get an orb (still not 100% cause the droprate isn't 100%) I clear the yard and the corridor where Galford is located. Have worked about 90% of the runs I've done so far. I am currently testing Certain numbers of mobs killed to get an orb.
Clearing yard + corridor yields 30 kills. I'm trying all numbers upwards from 20-30 atm.

Gonna report if I find something that seems to work other than corridor + yard clear.

I found that the Archivist drop rate has been reduced. The two that I did get dropped off of the Monks there.

These are easily farmed by a 70 protection-spec Paladin. You have to pull the Scarlet mobs around corners to stack them all up for Consecration because there are a lot of casters in the groups. Also, remember that they run for help, so be sure you pull them into a safe area.

Galford is easy to solo as well, and he almost always drops an orb.

I've been farming strat for orbs and other goodies for a few days now and after I've also been experimenting with galford's loot table. I think the trigger is related to the messages you get after clearing certain mobs. For example, I'm almost certain at this point that you only have to clear the courtyard and the group of scarlets at the end of the corridor BEFORE the corridor Galford's room comes off of.
When you kill that group, you get message saying something to the effect of "The scourge have broken through our defenses!" and a group of scourge will run down the hall and into the last corridor. In my experience, you don't actually have to kill them or anyone in the last hallway to get an orb off Galford.

Once I tried skipping most of the scarlet in the courtyard and only killing the group in front of the door, at which point I got a message that was sort of like "Help defend the stairs!" and a few nearby scarlet ran up to attack me. At this point Timmy spawned and I killed him and the scarlet that had aggroed, killed the group that triggers the scourge, then Galford. Unfortunately, an orb didn't drop and I haven't felt like risking it again to see if it was just the 10% or so chance not to drop or if you actually need to clear the courtyard to get it.

To rogues with enchanting: orbs aren't the only way to make money farming strat. Large brilliant shards and greater eternal essences (basically any high fifties enchanting stuff) still sells well to people looking to level their enchanting. Therefore, I'd recommend not only killing Galford, but Timmy and Balnazar (If you can take him) as well. Afterward, go around to the service entrance and kill the Magistrate for an additional shard (if you came in through the main entrance, he will be by the chapel by the service entrance, having not run to his other spot). If you feel like you had a pretty bad hull that run, I would also recommend killing one or more of the bosses guarding ziggurats, as they not only drop a blue, but sometimes a BoP green as well which can mean up to 3 greater eternal essences or 5 illusion dusts.

Afterward, go out the service entrance, reset, then into the main entrance and repeat. Happy farming.

Yes you must have the Scarlet key that drops at SM lib....Probably Stratholme used to be a part of the Scarlet Monastery.

yea this is easily soloable by a prot pally im 10/41/10 and no problems clearing the entire instance as an add'd bonuse try finding the scarlet Currier, ive only found him near tyr's hand but im sure his pat area is larger he drops an orb as well for so far about 35% of the time with him and the scarlet area in strath i net about 4-6 orbs a runm and with a full solo clear i also end up with 12+ large brilliant shards so just enough to do crusader twice wich will in turn earn ya well over 400g at least on my server thats avrg for a run for me not counting dust and essence's that drop

also as a side note the scarlet key does not drop. its in a group lootable chest behind last boss in SM library but is need'd to get into the scarlet area of strath

Seeing as most of this information is back from TBC, I think it's time to write an update for level 80. And well, good news! Pretty much any spec should be perfectly capable of soloing Stratholme Scarlet Side with relative ease (and the Undead side too, for that matter, but that's hardly all that relevant when it comes to Righteous Orbs seeing as they only drop from the Scarlet Crusaders, do keep that in mind).

Also you WotLK players looking to ease the leveling of an alt might be interested in knowing that seeing as Heirloom items are considered to be iLevel 1, you can only use pre-TBC enchants on them. This makes the good old Crusader enchant as popular as ever, so you have good reason to farm Orbs!

I just cleared all the Scarlet mobs in Strat 3 times in a row and have 3 orbs to show for it - all 3 dropped off of Galford.

Is this bad luck, or did Blizz ninja change the drop on Orbs?

I don't know this for sure, but for me it seems like if you have many on your charecters (all on the same server) they get alot less drop chance. I had 14 on my alt and I ran few times without seeing any drop not even from the boss, so I sold them and the very next run gave three

I just finished farming some w/ my L70 Feral Druid (note this is during WoTLK WoW).

Druid is geared in S2-3. Pulls are no problem as long as I pull one group at a time.

Drop rate seems to have been lowered since BC. I used to get 2-5 per run, and now I was lucky the second run I got 2. First run I only got one from Archivist G.

Yesterday i did 4 runs directly to Archivist, in the 2 first runs i killed every single mob from the main gate to the archivist, loot them...

NO ORBS AT ALL...

I hope this is just bad luck

Update as of 9/3/10.

I did two full Stratholme runs with my 80 Mage, 5.1k gs. Not uber geared, but not weak either.

On the live side, I only got 3 orbs total. 1 on the first run from Galford, 2 on the second run. One dropped off Galford, one dropped off trash.

Unfortunately, no mount from Baron =(

Did get about 50G in loot money, 17 stacks of Runecloth, and 28 Large Brilliant Shards. All in all, It wasn't super successful, but I got what I needed for my Crusader.

Update: 9/9/10

Ran again with my 77 Death Knight. It was still a pretty easy run, and I got 3 orbs. Two off the trash, and one off of Galford.

These are still dropping in 4.0.3. I did a minimal solo run on my 85 rogue yesterday just to have a look around, and found two orbs on the live side. Also I see them in the AH still.

Still dropping in 4.1, farming occasionally for my low level pally, seen as few as 2 drop, but today 6 dropped in one trip, one was outside in courtyard, which suprised me and reminds me always loot those also. After reading the comments, totally ignore dead side as much as possible now.

*Unlucky random drops are unlucky.* and vice versa.

Just thought I'd add some testing I did on the whole 'kill or not to kill mobs for making it drop'-argument.

Kills 1-7: Stealthed past and just killing Galford. Drop rate: 0 / 7 (0%)
Kills 8-37: Killed Timmy and the 3-4 guards outside in the courtyard guarding the door. Drop rate: 28 / 30 (~93%)
Kills 38-40: Stealthed past everything again and just killing Galford. Drop rate: 0 / 3 (0%)
Kills 41-43: Killed Timmy and the guards again. Drop rate: 3 / 3 (100%)
Kills 44-45: Stealthed past everything again. Drop rate: 0 / 2 (0%)
Kills 46-47: Being my last two kills, I decided to kill Timmy and the guards again. Drop rate: 2 / 2 (100%)

These kills took over a month, when I was in the mood for some orbs. Good thing I wrote down my results :)

So, let's break it down. 47 kills total.
Skipping mobs and just killing Galford: 12 kills. Zero drops.
Killing Timmy and the 3-4 guards: 35 kills. 33 drops (~94%).

I for one will continue to kill those 4-5 mobs and collect my orbs. If anyone feels like doing something like this, then please do so. The more results we gather the better! :D

2 runs of stratholme resulted in 7 orbs. This took me 15 minutes (run in, run back, reset, run in, run back). Galford dropped orb both times (100% drop rate on him yet). I never loot skeletons ect.

Farming for righteous orbs today. I got 1 on my first run. BUT.. I also got 2 epics. Night blade and Precisely Calibrated Boomstick and a BS recipe for Heart Seeker. 47 bolts of mageweave cloth as well as some green junk that I disenchanted.

One major note, that may have been overlooked. Righteous Orbs are a material used for Enchant Weapon - Crusader, which is probably the best enchant for a melee BoA weapon. If I see these in AH for 20 gold...I'm buying them.

So you can add a confirmation that they do still drop in 5.3 and are still used for at least, enchanting.

*the epics were pure luck, world drops. So not really in the loot table.*

I just made a run on Stratholme (main entrance). I got 6 Globo Virtuoso (5 from mobs inside the cathedral and 1 from Galford). I killed all the mobs I could find and I started at the left wing. I also got 1 Telavile
