Living essence is used in several different recepies and/or patterns. They ca easaly be farmed from, for example, tar lords and their brethren just south of Marchall's refuge in un'guro.

I don't know how readable this will be but here's a little diagram of the transmute circle that is possible with elemental essences. The main circle is Earth to Water to Air to Fire and back to Earth. The two branches are Life to Earth to Life and Water to Undeath to Water.

Get these sometimes off Rotting Forest-Ragers and Infested Root-Walker in Terrokar, not very good drop rate though. While farming for Primal Life, after getting 4 Primals, I only had 3 Living Essences.

I'm currently leveling a ravager on the Fungal Giants and Bog Lords in Zangermarsh. He's getting around 0.3 or 0.4% a kill, and as I type, he's 82.5% through the level. That's at least 200 mobs, and I've just had my first one of these drop.

i just wonder; is the rates as good in Dire Maul as it seems? If so it may be a nice place to get these if you can solo it.

If these things are still worth it, it seems like once you get a few levels above 60, you can solo farm Dire Maul for craptons of them.

I've found that a handy way to farm these essences in Dire Maul as a mage (80) is to run in, slow fall down into the first courtyard, then start to pull the Warpwood treants from all around the area. Once you have a sizable group you can Frost Nova and Blizzard them all down. Of course, you can also just fight your way in and pick up some Felcloth as well. :P

Found ungoro crater an easy but slow farm on these, had 2 in the first 20 min(1 on the first kill) but then went to farm the thorium in the apes cave then came back and not a 1 the next time around. stated drop rate for these here are 2% so guess i was lucky and just needed 2 for the plate gloves i wanted to make for myself.

Something I've always wondered about:

While all the other essences have "smaller siblings":
Elemental Earth - Core of Earth - Essence of Earth
Elemental Water - Globe of Water - Essence of Water
Elemental Fire - Heart of Fire - Essence of Fire
Elemental Air - Breath of Wind - Essence of Air

Living Essence doesn't.

There are no "smallest siblings" for these. If you look at the item levels of the other items, you see that the smallest is always 25, the middle one is 45 and the biggest is 55. Now, if you look here, you will find the two mentioned "middle siblings" in the list, but none for item level 25.

Dire Maul East seems like the best place to farm them. I cleared out the entire upper platform of the first large room (where the quest imp is) and got 4 essences. Just kill everything including the small lashers. Walk out, reset and go again.

I tried the Treants and Lashers in Winterspring and won't be going back there. Got one out of about 30 kills for the Treants and slightly better for the Lashers though there were fewer of them around. I got a few useful herbs in the process but mostly vendor junk. I know I can do better in Dire Maul and as a herbalist I always get a pile of useful herbs from there as well.

Needed 4 of these for lifestealing, so i went to winterspring and started farming.
No drops in 15 minutes then suddenly i get 4 drops in under 1 minute

After farming for 8 living essences, I figured I'd share my findings. I ran east dire maul once and got 1 essence. Probably bad luck for me. I spent roughly the same amount of time killing the treants and lashers west of Everlook and got the other 7. I killed roughly 200 treants for the 7 I got, putting the drop rate around 3 or 4%. However I wanted to make sure people know these mobs have a very high respawn rate and at times I had 3 corpses in a single spawn point. I also killed roughly 100 lashers, but did not get any essences from them, only greys and hearts of the wild. From a time spent standpoint, these mobs west of Everlook were definitely the better option for farming essences, with mobs respawning fast enough that I never had to spend any time waiting for more to kill. Also worth noting, these mobs do not share spawns(lashers will not respawn in place of a treant or vice versa).

So for my two cents, if you want living essences, kill the frostleaf treants west of Everlook. It isn't exciting, but it appears to be the better option from my experience. Plus the mobs could be solo'd at level 50, they're neutral so you don't risk being crowded, and the corpses can be 'picked' by an herbalist. Hope this helps!

I farm mine in an area in blasted lands called the tainted forest i run my level 85 dk killing felspore bog lords they spawn pretty quickly and they drop two different things you might be lookin for living essence and heart of the wild the drop rate isnt too bad depending on how quickly you kill things , in roughly close to an hour i killed less then 150 im sure and got 9 heart of the wild , and 7 living essence , and close by that area there are two rares that can be found one is huge tree right next to spore area and another is in some graveyard type area but all in the tainted forest area i hope this helps anyone good luck :)

Best way to farm these:

Head to The Tainted Forest (33.4, 79.1) in the most southwest corner of Blasted Lands. Start killing Signore del Pantano Vilspora of which there's about a dozen in this one tiny area surrounding the giant mushrooms.

Once you get down to the last 4 you'll start seeing them instantly respawn. No downtime, there will ALWAYS be 4+ up for you to kill. Their drop rate is the same as the Tar Bog Lords in Un'Goro and the Frostleaf Treants in Winterspring, the instant respawn is what makes the difference. Got the 8 I needed in less than a half hour (your results my vary).

The Tainted Forest in The Blasted Lands is absolutely the best place to farm these. Signore del Pantano Vilsporas either have some strange respawn rules where a certain number must always exist, or I just simply cannot tab target and kill them fast enough. Stand in the middle of the mushrooms, go crazy until the bodies pile up, then loot an inventory worth of trash and a fair amount of Essenza Vivente.

I've never encountered a better place to farm anything. Nice work finding this one!

Just a suggestion for the bog lords, LOOT AS YOU GO, since they respawn very, very fast they tend to leave a pile of dead bog bodies just lying around and it can get confusing quick if you dont loot them.....

Felspore Bog Lord is a nice source for Living Essence. You do not have to mount up between mobs or anything, just continue to kill em as fast as you can as they will instant-respawn if there are less than 2-3 of them.

A Findle's Loot-A-Rang makes the looting procces easier, I recommend to bring one.

ALSO, note that Felspore Bog Lord will not show up in the new Blasted Lands, you will have to talk with the NPC that changes the zone back to the old pre-warlords expansion to find them.

Had no luck with Bog Lords as of 30/04/2020. No Living Essence in >100 kills. It seems their loot table has been meddled with: Inert Elemental Flake drops almost 100% of the time, while its drop rate is listed as below 1% here on Wowhead. Heart of the Wild still drops, though. Went to Un'Goro after that and got 3 Essences from Bloodpetal Thresher/Trapper in 5 min. Maybe it's just luck.

Confirmed Living Essence drops from Felspore Bog Lords, at least while Time Traveling in the old Blasted Lands.

I hit my goal of 5 in a bit less than half an hour, at about a 7% drop rate.

Not exactly fun, but waaaaay better than the 4 Golden Pearls I just farmed over three hours.

After 50 kills of the Bog Lords in the the Quagg Ridge of Zangarmarsh, the drop rate for living essence was zero. I got some greens, 25 motes of life and some odds and ends. In the Tainted Forest of Blasted Lands, I killed another 50 with a drop rate of zero for living essence. Every item they dropped was a grey except for one. In Un'Goto Crater, I killed a total of 50 Tar lords, Beasts and Creepers and got four living essence and most of the other drops were greys.

I didn't get an accurate count but these weren't seeming to drop from any of the Tar creatures in Un'Goro Crater, so I switched to farming them from only the Bloodpetal plant creatures (Pianta Sferzante Petalorosso, Scorticatore Petalorosso, Straziatore Petalorosso, Petalorosso Intrappolante) and that seems to be a lot more successful.

farmed 9 living essence at diremaul at the common gardens instance section which is right at the front of the instance. it's a quick loop killing petrified treants that are in groups of 3-4 and ironbark protectors that patrol around. it's a quick loop, go out and reset. did 7 resets. did not bother killing tendris warpwood, but i did wander into the area twice to kill magister kalendris, mobs in that area dropped 2 essence of undeath and 6 ichors of undeath
