You get this by having someone with 310 skinning skill skin the beast but be careful the item is not rolled for, it just goes into whoever skinned its inventory so it is ninja'd very often.

The drop rate increased some time ago? Correct me if i am wrong.

On Stormrage it costs around 100g now, not worth a lot. 6 months ago it was around 400-600g.

A few helpful tips if you need this item:
1) You should ask everyone in the raid if they need the hide as well, this way you will no if someone ninja's it or not.
2) It may be a good idea to let the skinner know that you need the item beforehand so he/she isn't caught offguard by it.

Well, the reasoning for who gets the hide is pretty simple:

If a skinner skins the regular mobs and gets leather, would you demand to roll for it since you helped kill the mob he skinned? No.

If a miner mines dark iron in an instance, would you demand to get to roll for it since you helped him get to the vein? No.

If a miner gets an arcane crystal from a vein inside an instance (seen it happen in DMe), would you demand to roll for it since it's so rare? Would you demand that all alchemists get to roll for it since engineers or blacksmiths can't use arcane crystals anyway? No.

What if a herbalists finds Black Lotus in an instance, would you demand to roll for it since it's rare and expensive? No.

And in these cases the one who found it didn't even have to get any special equipment to do it, so realize that when a skinner says the hide is his and you say it's not you are the greedy one. Sure, you helped kill the beast, but the skinner did just as much as you and then on top of that he got his skill to 300 and did at least a dozen UBRS runs just for the dagger. A skinner that gets the hide has put more effort into it than you, and thus deserves it more than you do. End of story.

Nope netherbane is right. If you guys want to roll for the fide then leve your own skinning. We didnt level our skinning to get cheaoed out by you guys who demand we hand it over just because you helped kill it. Now sure you helped kill it BUT did you help skin it? No? The shut up and stop being greedy

As Netherbane said ... Stop being greedy , If the miner gets something rare from a vein ofc he keeps it and the same happens with this thing else there would be only greedy bastards , so stop the bull#$%^!

this still drops post 4.03a (shattering), but there is no longer any apparant use for it? The book that used to provide the recipe quests no longer does so (or the character i checked with didn't meet some requirement)

dropped for my guildie on a run this evening in 4.2- so, still available, tho it would be lovely of someone with some experience of earlier WoW could shed some light on what it was ever used for. understood it's now useless, but-- what WAS it for?

well i just checked the auction house on hellscream eu on the horde side and this is up for 18k i lol'd at the price so thought i would check here to see what exactly it is for, (nothing) but funny enough i have seen it a few times for over 10-15k ? either it now has a use or people are just chancing it, either way the fact its still a purple rare object is misleading dont they normally downgrade ?
