Apparently, "Sid/Syd the Squid" has a lot of uses in media, possibly given the rhyming nature of the name. Another possible reference? Batman:TAS

Sidney's nickname, "Sid the Squid", was apparently popular with the writers at Warner Bros. Animation at the time, as it was also used for one of the enemies of Animaniacs character Slappy Squirrel. It also appeared in the previous episode "Robin's Reckoning" as a past alias of Tony Zucco. The name "Squid" is improvised by Eddie G. when he notices the logo of a company called "Coburn Calamari"; "Killer Coburn" was another of Zucco's aliases.

Syd il Calamaro is a very low drop from Provviste Superiori delle Mascotte di Lunacupa, similar to the Occhio di Lunacupa's drop rate from the Provviste delle Mascotte di Lunacupa.

You have to beat Christoph VonFeasel in the Fiera di Lunacupa to get Provviste Superiori delle Mascotte di Lunacupa.

P/S magic pet, but with Aquatic abilities. Interesting mix of abilities, including 2 heals, 1 aoe attack, 1 nuke, and an attack blocker.

Doesn't do anything special when idle, it just hovers, but if you go airborne it flies behind you instead of despawning.

Eight legs, one moving eye, and a purple, veiny "head", or whatever it is that squids have, with a large, gross-looking orifice in the back. A faint, green mist exudes from the orifice. When viewed from underneath you can see his round mouth, which has many sharp-looking teeth. Drool drips from the mouth. Makes a bizarre screeching noise when you click on it.

Any idea of the drop rate on this? Having just killed him and received a token and moldy pet supplies as a reward I am a bit unhappy to say then least. I want that pet!

NOT SURE if it is a bug, but 9 people are selling these on Aggrammar in trade and 6 are on the AH for 12k down to 8k.
Not sure if everyone whom got a pack got 1 or if just a LOT of people did or there was a funky RNG on loot for it today, but be leery of paying too much :)
I snagged one for 6k this morning, then saw the spam a few hours later and I am now concerned I paid too much lol

So I just looked him up. After seeing he dropped from Darkmoon battle pack I did them for the first time and got him. And who says you can't get anything done in the 20 mins before extended maintenance. I guess I'm lucky.

So i saw this pop up on my Rarity today. so i decided to give it a try. and BOOOOM got it on my first try! didn't think much of it but i just found out it has a low drop rate.

The drop rates are needlessly opaque, but in my experience Syd the Squid drops much less frequently as of 9.2.x compared to a few years ago.
