The Core of Iron can be found from the Engine of Grimrail Depot.
This item, and several others are part of a Legendary Quest Chain, currently
the quest chain ends in receiving a epic ring. The quest chain is currently as
follows:

- Core of Life
- Core of Flame

~~Was able to loot this today in a random Normal mode dungeon (despite the quest saying it was "Heroic Only").~~

This is looted from a "chest" behind the final boss in Heroic Grimrail Depot.

If you forget to loot this it won't be delivered by the Postmaster as you have to loot it separately from the Boss.

Not sure how you are supposed to get this item, as soon as I kill the last boss the entire group is ported outside the instance to the entrance. I could not re-enter the instance. Someone please explain how to get this item? Do you need to get it before killing the boss?

It's important to note that unlike the Core of Life and Core of Flame, the Core of Iron is not looted directly from the last boss. After you defeat her and end up in the canyon, there is a chunk of wreckage behind her body which you need to loot to obtain the Core.

The loot is of course personal like the cores that drop off the other bosses, and everyone in the party can loot the wreckage if they're on the quest.

If you forget the item, you will NOT get it mailed.

Also, you CANNOT reenter the instance if you left your instance group, since if you go to the instance manually, you will enter the running train, and the loot is only available once it has crashed.

Hello!

Please note that this item needs to be looted from train wreckage found in the final area after the last boss. The item is not found by looting the boss.

I believe this Item/quest is a reference to the Sly Cooper Series.
In Sly2: Band of Thieves The Claw Gang steels the the CLOCKWeЯK parts from the museum in Cairo, Egypt which was placed there 2 years after the events that took placed at Krack-Karov Volcano in Russia.

Jean Bison walked away with 4 CLOCKWeЯK parts Lungs, Stomach, Claws and Brain.
He used 2 of the Parts in his Iron Horse Trains which enabled the to run day and night 24 hours a day to transport spice for the Clawgang.

In a sense this is a Similar matter let explain.

We are asked take the Iron Core which enables the Trains to run 24/7 much like the Iron Horses.
We Assault a moving train as a group much like when Sly and friends assaults the 3rd Iron Horse Train to aquire the CLOCKWeЯK Stomach.

Now a minor possible Boss reference to Jean Bison just happens to be Operator Thogar in BRF.
In Sly2: Band of Thieves is that the fight with Jean Bison happens in his Lumber Mill much like how we deal with Thogar in his place of operation.

Well to defeat Jean Bison you would use his Lumber Mill controls to turn the place into a total hazard much like how Thogar commands his trains to try and hit you on the tracks.
By using Jean mill controls to defeat him by burning him with fire, Knocking him back with blades or by dropping Logs on his head. But Bentley would call things out to Sly in the Control room of the Mill and basically say things like "Sizzle his gizzard" "Blades" "Logs" over his walky-talky."

Much like how Thogar commands his rails.

Have to wonder how many others have fallen victim to this bait-n-switch quest design. Thus far, every other objective has been boss loot and then suddenly, this quest has a hidden chest with deceptive wording for the quest itself.

After killing the final boss and realizing there was no loot, I teleported out of the dungeon (in an effort to teleport back in, assuming that I had missed the loot ON the train itself) and the group auto-disbanded when the last member left as I was about to teleport back in.

Ugh. Instead of progressing tonight, I'm left to wait until the lockout ends. Yay for suspect development!
