If this quest item remains in your bag after the quest is turned in, you cannot use it as a vanity item. When you try to use it on any target (friendly or hostile) you get the following error text:

"You have no target."

This item still remains in your bag as of today's newest (yet small) patch. I'm keeping it in my bag for fun, but also waiting for it to be finally deleted in a future patch.

Why are there 5 comments on the same thing, but no one says where to get the pebbles or what they look like NOT in your inventory.

These pebbles do remain in your bag after the quest (which is far better than in your shoes - ouch!)
