If you really love this trinket do not do the quest! You have to give it in, never to get back unless Blizz have finished the quest. I had a macro set up and everything for this little toy and now it's gone :(

I checked to see if they completed quest line in patch 2.3 well they didnt and i think blizz is just gonna turn a blind eye to it for a while.

There is a continuation (http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=8733). It is part of the AQ gate opening chain. Unfortunately, most of us will never see that quest. Maybe it'll be 5-mannable at 80? Regardless the trinket is useless once you get about 1 hour into Outlands, just turn it in for XP and get there faster.

The Essence Font can be found in the same room as Eranikus in the back left corner.

this quest is no longer valid with patch 4.0.3. the urn that you used to deposit the essence of eranikus is GONE from the room where eranikus is. so i'd like to thank blizzard for not removing this 'essence of eranikus', the eranikus quest-starting item, from my inventory when 4.0.3 was implemented. because i still had this item, i figured the quest was still valid, so i searched and searched for a way to complete this quest until i came to this conclusion. blizzard employs a bunch of asshats, no doubt in my mind about that.

To those like me who never turned this in and complete the mini quest chain, and still have the damn thing in your bank after Cata, oh well, toss it. Can't finish it any more now, can't use it, only taking up bag/bank space. Sad...
