To obtain this pet, you must interact with a Neverending Spritewood. They are large purple crystals that appear in the rock walls around the Nice Sprites.These Neverending Spritewoods spawn roughly at (47.90, 73.50), (44.73, 70.45) (45.00, 75.74) and (46.30, 71.00). Interacting with it will spawn Folletto Terrificante and allow you to attack the Folletto Gentile as well. You are only able to attack the Sprites for 1 minute until the buff from interacting with the Neverending Spritewood wears off.

Scary Sprites have a chance to drop the battle pet, Dandelion Frolicker.

What you Should Know:

The Sprites all have about 300k HP and hit for 7-12k each. It may not seem like much, but when you get 20+ adds on you, it starts hitting very hard. Be cautious not to get overzealous and pull so many that you die. As you pull/kill adds, more will continue to spawn.
You can only click on the Neverending Spritewood once per day, per character. But if you're in a group with someone else who interacts with it, you will still get loot from the adds they kill.
You have only one minute to kill the adds before they despawn or turn friendly again.
Roughly ~~1-2 hour~~ 10-15 minute spawn timer for the Neverending Spritewood.
Four confirmed spawn points.

BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY
You can group with people for this quest. The coins etc. are not shared loot, but the pet is. Regardless, you can be in a group to camp the crystals, and everyone in the group will get to loot the dead adds, however, only the person who clicked the Neverending Spritewood can actually DPS the adds. It's always nice to at least have a healer with you though. You can pull literally everything and not die.

Regarding the Folletto Terrificante not spawning:
Update 9/26/2013: The Scary Sprite spawn rate seems to have been dramatically increased; from 0-1 Scary Sprites spawning, to 5 or more of them spawning in the 1 minute buff duration. the Neverending Spritewood respawn timer has also been reduced from approximately 1 hour to approximately 10-15 minutes. This has greatly increased the availability of this pet. Good luck to everyone!

Jademist Dancers drop from the Jademist Dancer mobs.
And some of these mobs do pat, so try to be aware of their pathing. These markers just make running laps a little easier. :)

Update 9/18/2013: After more than 30 crystals, with maybe 3 of them spawning a Scary Sprite, I finally got my Dandelion Frolicker today. The Scary Sprite that dropped the pet appeared after about 90 or so Angry Sprites had been killed.

For those of you struggling to get the Scary sprites to spawn I highly advice you just group up with someone with high dps and gear instead of trying to do it yourself. It's not gonna work unless you got really high dps.

I for the moment can only do it effectively on my Monk (554 ilvl) and my Warlock (530 ilvl)

I usually get 3-4 spawns each time, however no luck on the pet yet.
Bursting around a million AOE damage, I highly suggest finding one of the arifacts and buffing up all the various buffs you can find on the island.

And please if you know you don't have the damage to make them spawn please dont use the crystal either.

To attempt to kill as many sprites as possible, I recommend eating all three "buffs" Cristallo Risonante Rugiada del Mattino Eterno Libro delle Ere, and tapping a buff stone, and eating a nearby fruit for the nutriment buff. In addition if you are fortunate to find a legendary item when the crystal happens to spawn, so much the better.

Other items that help are:
Birra Corposa di Pi'jiu Summons a spectral that casts the monk circle aoe
Strano Fungo Luminoso
Faintly-Glowing Herb

I do believe the rate the scary's spawn is random so it may be coincidental but using the Spectral brewmaster minion was able to get 3 Scary sprites to spawn for me. I tried twice without a minion and got none, another attempt with a Spectral Windwalker but he was not very helpful and still got none.

The Neverending Spritewood does not generate the crossed sword icon on the minimap typical of other timeless isle rare events. Be on the lookout for the purple crystal growing along the walls surrounding the Everlasting Spritewood tree.

Original post is now obsolete - as of the 26th of September, the spawn rates of the crystal and the Scary Sprites have been buffed!

Currently looking like a ~15 minute timer on the spawn (just saw it pop and get used at 3:46am, and I used it at 4:01am - went back for 4:16am to see and it popped again), with WAY more Scary Sprites (I killed enough mobs to loot 370 coins and killed 7 sprites).

I've done over 35 million damage in the course of the debuff killing almost 200 Angry Sprites. Not a single Scary Sprite spawns =(.

Ok, I have to post my findings on this.

Before clicking on the crystal, please take your time and LOOK at the spawn points of the crystals themselves. Now I don't know if this is coincidental, but I've noticed a pattern, and you might too.

Standing at the pillars looking at the sprite tree (beyond that Pi'jiu Village), there are 4 spawns of the crystal. 2 left, 2 right.

The Crystal that spawns nearest the pillar on the left side, when clicked, no matter how many sprites you kill, will *NOT* spawn a scary sprite.

The Crystal that spawns on the front left cliff, next to the path that leads to the blazing way, when clicked, will spawn at least 1 scary sprite.

The crystal that spawns on the back right cliff, when clicked, will spawn between 1-3 scary sprites.

The Crystal that spawns front right, closest to cranegnasher spawn, will spawn 5+ scary sprites.

Please feel free to test this theory yourself. I would recommend having your friends try as well to prove this theory. If I am correct, you will ALWAYS want to click the crystal nearest to Cranegnasher to gain the most amount of scary sprite spawns.

Today, I clicked the crystal nearest Cranegnasher and a scary sprite spawned the second I clicked it! Without me killing anything!

Is the purple crystal ONLY clickable once a day or something?

I clicked it this morning and murdered some spirits, I've seen it twice since then and NOT been able to click it. I see other people run right to those "unclickable" crystals and get the debuff and kill stuff.

Bug or is it Daily?

With the latest maintenance (25 Sept 2013), I can confirm the respawn rate is a lot shorter (~15mins or so) for the Neverending Spritewood especially since you can see several piles of corpses at the one time. However, for those camping the area there appears to be a lockout from clicking the crystal again within a short period. I was close enough to click it a few hours later but was unable to interact with it so it looks like you can only click it once per day. This is good news as it means more people have a chance at the event and pet.

There also seems to be a higher number of Scary Sprites which have a chance to spawn during the one min encounter although the drop still seems low for the pet. On a side note, I was also able to loot the corpses when the person I was partied with completed the event.

Here's a video of the event using everything but the artifact buff.

Best of luck to those farming the Dandelion Frolicker.

I got this today, but not from looting the sprites, but from herbing them. After killing the sprites, there was no loot on them, but once I began herbing, the pet showed up in the loot I got from herbing (along with coins and vendor trash). Just an FYI.

If you have multiple characters and you start losing track of which character hit the Neverending Spritewood (like me), I made this macro as an all-around useful daily tracker on the Timeless Isle:

- Clicked on the Neverending Spritewood. (For Tarassaco Giocherellone)
- Killed and looted Gran Sacerdote delle Fiamme*

* Gran Sacerdote delle Fiamme is only lootable once a day according to people who've talked to GMs.

For pet collectors, who are only interested in the Neverending Spritewood, here's a simplified version:

If the macro returns a "1" it means you've already clicked on the Spritewood today. Otherwise it should return a "nil".

A little help for dying Warlocks

I tried all the 3 different specs and I found Destro to be the easiest and quickest of them all to nuke as many Sprites as possible in the shortest amount of time while staying alive.

As mentioned in before, the Sprites don't really hit hard alone but having 10 to 15 of them pounding on you is something that will bring you down in no time.

Pet:
-The pet you will use is purely personal choice. I used the VW to taunt whatever it was attacking.

Talents:
-Dark Regen as a healing CD.
-Because your pet will take minimal damage, I advice specing into Sacrificial Pact for when you drop bellow 30% HP. depending on your gear lvl, you should get a nice shield of at least 250k.
-Mannaroth's Fury is quite interesting in here. Because the strategy I used I waited until I had a big number of small and big Sprites and poped the talent.

Glyphs:
The GoConflag to keep the adds snared and away from you is quite effective.

The Strategy:
Once the purple crystals spawned, I just clicked on it and started running around the big tree and spamming RoF all over the tree. Because you will generate a lot of Ember you should keep Fire and Brimstone activated all the time and only use it for the procs of Backlash and Conflagrate. Don't stop to cast or the sprites will obliterate you back to to twisting nether. Whenever you run bellow 70% cast Ember Tap, trust me, you will be capped on them as long as you have something to attack. There will be a point where you will have more adds then you can handle, that's when you want to pop Mannaroth's Fury. Remember to use all kinds of self buff you can get. any help here is a help since you are on a timer and you want to increase your chances by killing as much as you can.

By clicking on the Neverending Spritewood (A bright Pink stone near the tree the Nice Sprites are around), you will recieve a debuff that will turn all of the Nice Sprites into Angry Sprites or, if you're lucky, into Scary Sprites. The Scary Sprites will have a chance to drop the rare pet Dandelion Frolicker. By killing the Angry Sprites you have a chance to turn any new spawns of the into Scary Sprites.

You can only click on the Neverending Spritewood once per day, so if you want to make sure you've got a good shot at killing all of the Scary Sprites you can, here is a list of a few things that can help you:

It should be noted, as of Oct. 2nd, the spawn rate on Scary Sprites has been increased, and the damage they deal has been decreased by 40%.

Head to the nearby Old Pi'jiu, a village with three different kinds of ghosts living in it. Kill the Spectral Brewmaster for Thick Pi'jiu Brew which will summon a ghost who will use an AOE to help you. Kill the Spectral Windwalker for Bubbling Pi'jiu Brew, which will summon a ghost who will use a single target attack to help you. Kill the Spectral Mistweaver for Misty Pi'jiu Brew which will summon a ghost who heals you. These can all be summoned at the same time, so it's worth it to gather all three.

If you get lucky you can use one of these artifacts, which are found across the isle, to help you. Don't spend too much time looking though as they only last ten minutes, and have a one minute cooldown. The artifacts do various forms of AOE (circle, cone, cleave) and cause 200,000 damage to those caught within their range.

Use a feast or other stat boosting ability useful for your class.

Use these three items: Singing Crystal, Book of the Ages, and Dew of Eternal Morning. These are all dropped by mobs on the isle. If you are having trouble them, you can complete the daily Path of the Mistwalker for any one of the three.

Use Strange Glowing Mushroom, dropped from the Shamblers in the Cavern of Lost Spirits.

Use Faintly-Glowing Herb, dropped by the Ashleaf Sprites.

Use a potion or elixir for boosting a stat useful to your class.

I've also found that Kafa Press is exceedingly useful, although it is considered a potion, and you can't use a healing/mana potion during the fight afterwards.

Find a Time-Lost Shrine for one of these buffs. They last for 60 minutes, and while you can have only one active, they are incredibly useful.

Make sure to use all your class cooldowns! This can only be done once per day, so give it everything you've got!

Eat various things around the isle, such as Ripe Crispfruit which is found near Old Pi'jiu. Grants you the buff Timeless Nutriment.

Bring a friend! While they can't help you attack the sprites (they'll still be friendly to them) they can heal you. Plus, since the sprites are friendly, they won't attack your friend either.

And that's all there is. I hope this helped you kill the sprites (or other various things around the isle) to your hearts content. Good luck farming!

It is possible (if you're extremely lucky) to have more than one pet drop at a time. My friend managed to get two pets at once today, so while it's not common, it is possible.

Just to confirm what others have said, if you click the Neverending Spritewood, you get angry and scary sprites - and you can only click it once per day. HOWEVER, this is once per day PER CHARACTER. So if you're like me with 9 characters at level 90, then get all of them over there, and have each of them give it a try. That's nine chances of it dropping, every day. Plus of course, the possible double drop that others have mentioned.

i had problems spawning an angry sprite in my runs as a rogue, and even if one spawns, it doesn't drop the pet. i was only killing the three in a corner as they respawn.

so i tried something different. after clicking the crystal,

i ran into the mob of them surrounding the tree and had them turn into angry/scary sprites
pop defensive cooldowns (and use leeching poison, recuperate, etc)
pick out the scary sprites (macro if u have to) to kill
vanish to reset the angry sprites after killing the scaries
continue killing the three that respawn in a corner

i find that the respawn will very likely have more angry sprites now. i have no idea if it's coincidence. but it is something to try. upvote if it works for u, downvote if it doesn't work for u (after u have tried this exactly)

Ok i just got this today the technique i used was putting every stamina buff i have on me then i use the crystal that allows you to become unfriendly and make sure you attack the bigger sprites<scary sprites> might respawn when you kill the smaller sprites but the scary sprites drop it so just make sure you target them the whole time hope this helps :) also put all your attack power buffs on you for faster kills and more of them too.

I have to agree with the other comments about using the buffs and healing items, the buffs and healing items really work wonders. I just wished I checked in here before trying it myself for the first time! The first time I tried this event I thought it'd be pretty easy with my gear (584 ilvl survival hunter), I didn't have all the buffs or any of the healing items and I died after about 45 seconds. I was lucky that I still got one pet, but I wanted two of them to make a particular pet team, so I was going to do it again.

The second time I tried it I did it with:

Singing Crystal
Dew of Eternal Morning
Book of the Ages
Crystal of Insanity
Timeless Nutriment
Wisdom of Yu'lon

and a stack of:

Strange Glowing Mushroom

I lasted the whole 60 seconds and killed so many that I got three Dandelion Frolicker from that single run of the event!

If you want to maximise your chance you'll want to go into this as prepared as possible. Don't go in cocky and half-arsed like I did the first time, even with good gear you can still get swarmed and overwhelmed if you're not properly prepared.

I spent several hours last night running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to find these rare mobs/drops. So today I made myself a little guide to make my pet hunting smoother.

This is listed in order going clockwise from Huojin Landing:

Jademist Dancer - (25.5, 29.2) These drop from their big brothers and sisters. I like to clear them out and then run over to the crane nests and make a round while the Dancers are respawning.

Azure Crane Chick - (33.0, 42.5) These are looted from crane nests. They are found under trees all around the Celestial Tournament. Look for a cluster of several small chicks under trees, that's where you'll find nests.

Skywisp Moth - (Need Highwind Albatross) These are wild pets you can obtain by pet battling. Many of them are on high cliffs that are unreachable since we can't fly here. See Cielos's explanation on how to get up there.

Jadefire Spirit - (43.6, 40.7) (Cavern of Lost Spirits) These drop from the rare elite Spirit of Jadefire. He spawns randomly in different parts of the cave. The spawn time ranges from 30-60 minutes.

Ominous Flame - (43.6, 40.7) These drop from the Foreboding Flame mobs inside the cave, the same cave where the Jadefire Spirit drops.

Ashwing Moth - (East & South of Celestial Tournament) These are just normal wild pets that are caught by pet battling.

Bonkers - (58.0, 42.2) Inside the cave you will find Master Kukuru who will sell you a key for 500 Timeless Coins. Bonkers can be looted from the chests.

Flamering Moth - (Blazing Way & Timewalker Ruins) This is a wild pet that can be captured by pet battling. Seems like it's almost always a secondary pet to an Ashwing Moth or a Skywisp Moth.

Gulp Froglet - (64.0, 70.6) These drop from the rare elite Bufo. Bufo spawns approximately every 30-60 minutes. Killing the frogs in the area does absolutely nothing.

Dandelion Frolicker - (45.6, 72.9) These drop from the friendly Nice Sprites you see surrounding the trees with orange crystals on them. You "use" the purple crystals nearby to turn them into Scary Sprites so you can kill them. The purple crystals are on a spawn timer, so if you don't see them it's because they're not up yet. If you're standing near the tree, you'll see the purple crystal if it's up. (see mel9525's instructions)

Gu'chi Swarmling - (41.1, 81.2) These drop from the rare elite Gu'chi the Swarmbringer. He spawns at the south-east edge of Old Pi'jiu Village by the water then paths counter-clockwise around the village until he reaches the shore again. His spawn timer is approximately 30-60 minutes.

Skunky Alemental - (36.9, 76.5) These drop from the rare elite Zhu-Gon the Sour. Apparently he spawns with the "Skunky Brew" event that occurs every 30-60 minutes. (see defektunge's explanation)

Ashleaf Spriteling - (67.3, 44.1) These drop from the rare elite Leafmender. Follow the path from south of the Celestial Tournament all the way around to get here. He spawns under a tree at the top of the hill on the left hand side with a bunch of his little sprite friends. His spawn timer is approximately 30-60 minutes, but if he is killed and not looted it throws the timer off by about 30-45 minutes.

Ruby Droplet - (64.5, 27.1) These drop from the rare elite Garnia at the ruby lake. (see elfomal's instructions to get there) The spawn timer is approximately 30 minutes, but make sure you loot the body so it despawns otherwise it will take an extra 30 minutes.

Death Adder Hatchling - (31.0, 68.0) These drop from the rare elite Imperial Python. My understanding is that it will spawn in the place of a dead Death Adder. Focus on the south-west where they are more closely clustered together. (see Jaladar's method)

Spineclaw Crab - (28.7, 75.4) These drop from the rare elite Monstrous Spineclaw. For more information, check out Heathmonn's very detailed instructions.

Holy &*!@? I've been farming one of these for 5 days for my collection. And... . And.. ... . .... And I just got 3 of them in one go? Just now. What? CAN SOMEONE DO THE MATH AND TELL ME WHAT THE ODDS ARE FOR THIS?
I have been so unlucky during the expansions with collecting mounts, but not pets. So fate decided that I'm going to be a pet collector. Mounts are apparently not my thing, fate says. Oh what can you do with mounts anyway. Flash them? You can flash pets too. AND do battles with them! Cheers to every collector out there! :D So happy

Qualcuno mi porti un carrello, this was the hardest achievement in Mists of Pandaria.
I got this on the last day of the expansion: 14 December in 2011.
For this achievement I've spend a total of 4 mounths playing 4 hours a day.
This achievement is hardest cause do you need loot rare items from rare mobs.
Even the rares having 30 to 60 minutes spawn the problem here is cause those rares has low hp and die fast, making you lose then.

Another factor that make this achievement hard, is because the items needed has low drop chance.
For example the Redini della Serpe delle Nubi Tonante d'Onice, this mount has 0.9% drop chance, and was my last item for conclud the achievement.
I've spend a total of 400 trys to loot this mount.

My strategy for don't lose my mind while doing this insane grind was watching one piece while the Huolon doesnt spawn.
The addon called Rare Coordinator was great to track the rare spawn times, but I guess it's doesnt work on Dragonflight, cause you need other players to tracking with you.

Don't forget to use move speed items and teleport to reach rares faster.
