Being a 27 Druid, I cleared the area in Ashenvale, in about 4 minutes. I ended up spending over a half an hour there.

Definitely a grinding quest. As a level 27, the level 18-20 mobs were grey to me. So try to do the quest at a lower level to at least get xp from all the mobs you'll have to kill.

Got this from the 6th kill, An Excavator, at Ordil'Aran. It can be that they've changed the drop rate of this with the 2.3.0 patch.

Going to and start killing. While killing the Dark Strand, sometimes a Dark Strand Enforcer will appear, if this happens, kill him and you should have a better chance of getting it from him then the regular's there.

Enforcers actually have a lower chance to drop...not by much though probably 1% so just kill everything in the area and get hope you get lucky

id advice not taking this quest and just grind nearby

Mobs are a bit hard and theres soo many and fast spawn rate and very low droprate that it would be better to avoid

had to kill all the mobs, wait for respawns, kill them again, wait for respawns, kill them again, wait for respawns, kill 5, then, finally it dropped.

i was level 70. (doing the q for rep^^)

and theres like 10-12 mobs at a time

I agree that this is an insane grind quest - the drop rate is ridiculously low. But that's not necessarily a bad thing if you want some tasty XP - I got over a whole level's worth of XP from this quest. Yes, it's time-consuming. Yes, you need to constantly look out for adds and spawns. But hey - grinding is the name of the game when you're a lowbie, right? ;D

I just did this q began 18 level with about 2-3 bars from ding and now i have 5 bars before i turned in the q that = lots of mobs before drop

The drop rate is low. However, most of the mobs also drop wool, so it's a decent wool farm.

Got it after killing 8 mobs orso.. Maybe im lucky or the droprate increased. Got it @ 32.26

It took me absolutely ages to get this, died twice during and levelled up in the process from 20 to 21, and nine tenths of the way to lv22. That just depicts how low this drop rate is, totally not worth it IMO.

seriously drop rate is too damn low for a 20 quest....

killed about 60-70 mobs... and no drop... abandon quest is the best way. this quest only makes wow flustrating and boring!

I must have got very lucky, or they have changed the drop rate in 4.0.1 got it on 3rd kill while doing Loremaster.
